While I agree we can be competitive as we are in this division, we are well short of the teams at the top so I wouldn't hold out much hope of us doing a Bournemouth or Brentford if we were to win the play offs next season. You basically have to survive the first two seasons up there to get a foothold. The big problem for us is bigger clubs like Leeds, Sunderland and Sheffield United getting double the gate receipts we get. If those three go up this season and come straight back down, they will still have double our gate receipts and will have the big parachute payments as well back in the Championship. We could do a Luton and Ipswich but if we drop straight back down then it is very hard to replicate what the Cherries and Bees are doing unless we stay up. Right now I can't see us ever troubling the top two or three for auto the way things are structured. No doubt if spending clubs like Wrexham and Birmingham come up next season, there are two more clubs who will be looking to make the play offs next season. The players we currently have won't bring us much in sales if Sheffield United only wanted to pay £2million for Dunne. We don't have a talent like Eze to sell for big money so I do think it is extremely difficult to build a budget squad to give relegated Premiership teams a challenge. |

The problem with staying at Loftus Road is the capacity so we can't do much with increasing gate receipts so ffp is an issue. Luton will move to a new 25k ground so they can get more income that way to outbid us for new players and pay higher wages for better players. Money talks these days and does shape the leagues with the smallest budgets in the bottom half. We have had a striker issue for over 10 years and they are hard to come by if you have smaller budgets and don't develop clinical forwards of your own. If we don't find a better striker than next season we will continue frittering away chances and dropping points. Right now it is impossible seeing us compete for auto promotion unless stuff like ffp and parachute payments get binned We certainly need to start better next season as we won't keep getting away with one win in 16 games at the start of each season. A lot will depend on how quickly new signings bed in and if we avoid getting as many injuries as we had earlier in the season to disrupt us. |

Isn't the old saying that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results? The fact that our previous 8 corners were woeful with the same approach should have had someone pointing out to try something different by the 9th attempt. We were playing an inform team and should have settled for a good away point and kept possession down their end with a short corner. Seeing out games has been an issue at times. |

Perhaps with our last corner we should have gone short and faffed around at the corner flag running the clock down. Think we would have got the point doing that as attempting to get the ball in the box from corners proved futile. As you say losing with the last kick or action is just about the worst way to lose. Does feel as we have been more on the receiving end of stoppage time defeats than winning in stoppage time during the past 25 years but who knows? |

Very true and I also don't think much to the strikers we have had for over a decade which probably makes our corners look worse. It always feels like we lose more games in stoppage time than we win but I haven't seen the stats to determine if that is true. |

It is frustrating being inconsistent as having put ourselves in a good position to challenge for the play offs we have now lost three out of the last four losing to play off rivals Wednesday, Millwall and Coventry in that run. |

Last time Queens Park won the Scottish Cup was 1893 being their tenth before Rangers won their first Scottish Cup in 1894. So for 20 years the Spiders were an early force in the Scottish game. |

Right I have had a detailed look at the past meetings and it appears the last time Queen's Park won at Ibrox was in 1948 and their last home win over Rangers was in 1928. It appears the Spiders hadn't beaten Rangers in the cup since 1882 as the 1928/48 wins were in the league. [Post edited 9 Feb 23:52]

The last time they beat Rangers was in 1882 so around then or earlier. They were always part time until around 2020. |

Great save by the Spiders keeper as Tavernier normally so good with penalties and free kicks. Will go down as one of the biggest shocks in Scottish cup history. Queens manager won the cup in 2021 with underdogs St Johnstone but very hard to see anything other than another procession for Celtic to win the trophy. Anyway good luck to Queen's Park, winning at Ibrox, when Spurs and Celtic didn't do on their visits this season. |

They did. It was us who put out a weaker team thinking they would do the same. |

Very impressed with Plymouth beating Brentford and Liverpool without conceding. It was only in the last 15 minutes that Liverpool woke up a bit but for most of the game they were going through the motions. It is only Man City that really put out a strong side in the early rounds. I think in our last 10 league meetings with Brentford we only won twice so Plymouth have done well. However, my fave second team, the Spiders with a depleted side, have won at Ibrox and that has made my season. After losing to rock bottom Airdrie Onions last week I thought they would get battered today. Brilliant result for the much overlooked Glasgow side. |

The linesman was right in line with the clear offside so no excuses he missed that. Must have his eyes shut... |

United look pants so possibly we could have got a rare win at OT but only if we played the same team as against Blackburn. If we made 6 changes again then we would lose. |

Second for me. First time was when they had Stan Bowles playing for them. |
![](/images/avatars/1986.gif) | Forum Reply | Match Thread: Blackburn tonight at 23:03 4 Feb 2025
Closer game than it should have been as once again we squandered good chances so the nerves start jangling when only a goal in it towards the end. Still any win over jinx club Blackburn has to be savoured. |
![](/images/avatars/1986.gif) | Forum Reply | Dunne-less Rangers downed at The Den – Report at 22:49 3 Feb 2025
Personally I thought Millwall dropped off a bit the longer it went on as their energy levels went down being their third game in a week. We were on top the last 20 minutes and couldn't score compared to us looking weary against those Owls and they put two past us in the last 20 the week before. We are not clinical enough but no doubt losing the manager and Dunne for a derby fixture was bad news. |
![](/images/avatars/1986.gif) | Forum Reply | millwall match tread ? at 11:29 2 Feb 2025
The fact of the matter is Millwall played 3 games in 8 days and won the lot while we played twice and lost both. Even Luton got a point against Sheffield Wednesday yesterday. While I accept we bossed the game after the subs, it has to be remembered Millwall had a tough midweek game at Portsmouth, who had won 6 and drawn once in 7 home games. Millwall's energy levels dropped in the last 20 minutes and we failed to score just one goal in what was plenty of time to do so. We are not clinical enough and until we find a striker to take opportunities these frustrating results will keep us mid table for years to come. |

To be honest our kit looks more gold than the current Wolves version which looks more piss yellow like Jackie Goodman's curtains for those who watched Friday Night Dinner. |

Perhaps someone can dream we will win away in a London derby as it is something of a rarity since we changed century. |
