The rules were strict initially but were updated post-Brexit. The revised regulations now allow clubs more flexibility: 1. Lower Points Requirement: The points-based system was adjusted, lowering the threshold for players to qualify. 2. Increased Eligibility: More leagues and competitions were included in the criteria, broadening the pool of eligible players. 3. Youth Players: Changes were made to facilitate the signing of younger players, who previously might not have met the criteria. |

A clause actually puts a minimum fee release - otherwise it works the same as a player. It’s whether a manager is under a long term deal or not. You want him, you pay for him, at a price stipulated by the seller, not buyer. If there is no minimum release fee, we could have asked for 10m for Marti if we wanted too. Unless the manager kicks up a stint, and wants the job, then of course the negotiation hand is lowered/weakened. |

The problem is Rice is not a number 6. He can’t play out, he’s a crab footballer. 105m for half a centre mid. So you put him at 8, where he plays for Arsenal for the last third of the season, because they’d figured that out also, Jorginho at 6. But Rice doesn’t get in at 8 - that’s Bellingham. Wharton 6, Bellingham 8, Foden 10. Perfect balance and stocked with pure quality. [Post edited 21 Jun 0:16]

Don’t normally get involved in these kind of discussions. But.. Throwing something at someone, be it a glass, a stone, a pebble, a rock, some hard ice, etc, in anger at someone, impulsively, has been done many a time, by many a person. It’s not much different to someone throwing a punch at someone on a drunken night out, in anger, impulsively. Happens every day of the week. None of it is acceptable, but some get lucky and get away with it and others don’t. Doesn’t make those who get caught a monster. Just as it doesn’t make those who get away with it an angel. Let’s hope there’s been some learning on all sides. It’s also wise to suspend judgement because we are not privy to the finer details of the case. |

Adam Wharton is what this team is crying out for as the deep lying number 6 playmaker. If he is prepared to play Mainoo who is the same age, then I see no reason why Wharton shouldn’t also. Would transform the side On TAA the idea that he can pass so he fits there is a bit bonkers - he’s good at long raking passes and that’s about it, not the short ones, or receiving the ball in tight spaces, or a lot of things you need to play CM effectively. The angles are completely different. Never a CM [Post edited 18 Jun 9:08]

I don’t recall him playing there for Liverpool this season Just had a quick look on transfermarkt which is normally pretty good for positional stats, and it says he played RB for all his prem games but made 1 appearance in CM in the EFL cup |

Maybe a side point, but not sure an appalling relegation haunted team is accurate. Relegation haunted absolutely! But appalling? GA in charge for a third - appalling. 23rd, down and out. Cifuentes in charge for two thirds - near play off form. |

Well, it looks like because he is u24, we will be due a compensation fee next summer as and when he is out of contract. So, the club could consider this season a “free hit”, and see how he develops through the season. If he grows and performs considerably, they could then agree to meet his wage demands, since they will have proof of development rather than theory and unknowns right now. |

It’s possible, Dave but he’s got to develop significantly. Whilst Ferdinand played in the same position, I think Kakay is a more recent example of how difficult it is to develop the technical side of the game to succeed at championship level, despite playing 100+ games. Armstrong is weak on all similar technical characteristics- touch, technique, composure, awareness etc- and instead excels at the athletic side of the game - strength, pace, power. Kakay likewise was more of an athlete, stamina, energy, robustness, than footballer, and was unable to raise his game. Still early days but the jury is out. Contract situation complicating things considerably. |

He lacks natural striker characteristics- movement, anticipation, finishing. And he also struggles with general footballing abilities for the level - touch, technique, awareness. I am far from convinced he will ever be able to develop any of these to the level required since he is coming from such a low base to begin with. Looks like because he is u24 we would be due a compensation fee next summer when is out of contract, so no real rush to sell this summer, but the club may well want to if he won’t commit. |

Alex Aoraha ticks a lot of boxes here. He’s a deep lying number 6, always showing, always dictating play. Very comfortable on the ball and in tight spaces, plays forward, can carry the ball, and also has a great engine and defensive abilities. Dare I say it, similar attributes to a certain Adam Wharton. But it remains to be seen how he recovers from his leg break. Big shame for the lad as Marti himself had earmarked him for first team opportunities just before his injury. |

It’s 17, where you can first legally sign a pro contract. Maximum 3-year period. At 18, it can be extended to 5 year deal maximum. The ONLY player in well over 10 years to sign a pro contract for QPR at the tender age of 17 - the earliest possible opportunity- was Rayan Kolli. Edit: Sinclair Armstrong also. The u18s group (aged 16-18) are signed for a 2-year scholarship deal. It’s a scholarship contract, but not a professional contact. At the end this 2-year period, they either; - get released - get an extended third-year scholarship, or - get offered a professional contract. If kept on, they automatically move into the next age group, the U21s. |

Slightly surprising, but two things; - he is 20 now, and it looks like we are prioritising younger (long overdue) - he is also very slight, and it looks like we are prioritising robustness / physical stature, if not explicitly height (also long overdue) |

Those figures jump out at me in the context of why Les may have presided over late developers (holding onto dev squad players until 22, 23, 24) in our own setup based on his own experience |

Yeah, I can only assume Dykes is effective over a longer distance when his long stride clicks into gear. Chair is definitely not quick, and regularly gets caught up, and has to check back. Freeman was the same. Both can never really get away, unlike Eze for example, who just pulled further and further away in full flight. What chair is good at is acceleration over over small 10 metre sprints. It’s the longer distance foot race where he struggles, although I have seen some improvement this year. |

Fair enough. We all see things differently. What is interesting is that Lyndon Dykes is 3rd or 4th quickest player at the club. That’s from a player who told me he regularly clocks top 3 in sprint drills. I would never have believed that. The fastest player at the club before he moved on this summer was Arkell-Jude Boyd. |
