Ashes Winter thread 22:31 - Nov 6 with 48678 views | newgolddream | Australia all-rounder Shane Watson faces a battle to be fit for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on 21 November. The 32-year-old sustained a hamstring injury while bowling in Australia's final one-day international against India last Saturday.

Of course I meant the Aussies second dig, didn't seem like the same pitch. Warner and Clark centuries.

Easy with a massive lead and no pressure. We need to get it right for the next game, this one's long gone. This is not a great Australian team, they have the same bowling attack we have taken apart many times before.

If we can get to 400 from here then it won't be the end of the world, but we do need to get some runs on the board and to spend some time at the crease. Carberry was unlucky amd Trott isn't very bright is he? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Trott is playing into their hands, which is surprising as until recently he has seemed one of the mentally strongest in the side. You don't suddenly become a bad player, he is a proven performer and needs to fight back. We have taken this bowling attack apart many times (declared 2nd innings at 517/1 last time in Brisbane), this series is far from over. In the 2005, 2009 and 2010/11 series we won, we got thrashed in one test.

Haha. Mitchell Johnson's on fire. This one's been a long time coming. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of sea hunts, really. Erm... Come On U Rrrrrrs

Can we play you every week? Perth won't get any easier as it's even faster and bouncier than the Gabba pitch.

I can't even contemplate a travesty like a wash out draw. This cannot be.
Ashes Winter thread on 08:28 - Nov 24 with 1206 views | ElHoop | A bad defeat for sure but I wouldn't be in a rush to write us off. Sure we need to sort out some issues here, but putting up this pitch first when we would be undercooked is the equivalent of the Aussies playing their joker. Adelaide might have been a better place for them to start us off as they might have turned us over on a pitch which should have favoured us. As it stands, a big defeat means that we have to come back strongly on a pitch which will suit us, and we only have to draw the series to keep the Ashes. The next test is crucial, for sure. I suppose that if we did win the second test and looked back to the first test for reasons why we turned it round, you could look at the form of Broad, the fact that Cook looked in good shape, Carberry was due some luck and Root didn't look to be in any trouble at the end today. Throw in Clarke's histrionics late in the day and you could see how it might swing back our way if it gets tight over in Adelaide.
Ashes Winter thread on 08:30 - Nov 24 with 1201 views | qprmick | All over fro now. England have a bit of work to do, Trott, Prior and Pietersen in particular. Tremlett and possibly Finn need to start aiming at the head too. [Post edited 24 Nov 2013 8:31]

Ashes Winter thread on 08:56 - Nov 24 with 1183 views | ElHoop | My recollection of the warm up games was that the wickets were mainly easy batting wickets which offered nothing to the bowlers and the batsmen weren't accustomed to the sort of conditions that they found in Brisbane. They are accustomed to them now. I'm concerned about Swann's bowling and batting and also the batting of Prior. No matter how well Root plays, he could end up being stranded if nobody hangs around in the bottom order.

I noticed Clarke giving it the lemon to Anderson at the end there. That was beyond a bit of sledging or banter. Real big man, giving it large with the game practically over. This is why I dislike the Aussies so much. I respect that they have a competitive streak and give it their all but they have the ability to display real bad sportsmanship and attitude. Not saying England are infallible from similar behaviour but it's never as frequent as the Australian players, management, media etc. Hope we get back to quietly turning them over for the future tests but I have a feeling it is going to take a massive mental recovery from that.

Clarke proved what a two bob outfit they really are, with that outburst at the end. First test win since January and a good win at that. You'd have thought that he could have kept a lid on it. We'll be after him now.

the thing is Cook should know what to expect from the Aussies they have been fired up for a while, England have themselves to blame they had the Aussies in the 1st innings at 132-6 but again took the foot off the gas Big test this now for Cook as a captain as the Aussie tails are up and they will be in our faces from the get go in the 2nd test especially if they win the toss
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Ashes Winter thread on 14:33 - Nov 24 with 1109 views | Nov77 | Aussie tactics are pretty clear, they're going to try and bully and intimidate our players, hope we've got enough spirit about us to stand up to them, but the body language didn't look good in this game. Clarke telling Anderson when he came out to bat, "get ready for a broken arm" just proves what an odious little twunt the bloke is.
