Usual hard-hitting questions, expansive managerial self-examination, and aimed as ever at a discerning, critical, and intelligent audience.
Interesting clue at least to where his ire might have been directed post-match in that uncharacteristic specific reference to our 'experienced' players not doing their jobs - I assume he has in mind the likes of Cook, Field, Smyth, and Frey, which he'd be right about, even if Varane's performance was particularly poor and finally convinced me he won't cut it in the Champ. Dunne and Chair were badly off it too, but at least they created a (quality) token goal. Of the starters, only Paal and Saito came out of it with any credit. To me, that points to preparation, mentality, and a lack of manliness.
Yep he’s obviously very disappointed in the performance. Pretty sure the players will be aware they didn’t front. Not good enough, not tge end of the world either. Keep your shit tight and Move on to the next game.

Hope he includes his own performance in his 'disappointment', epitomised for me by the ridciulous delay of seven or eight minutes in getting the subs on once it had finally dawned on him at our usual 'minute 60' he'd got his team wrong. How Varane stayed on the pitch till the end is anyone's guess.

I think Marti would have been within his rights to criticise the players more. I don't think it was a case of Portsmouth being mightily difficult or their style of play being impossible to deal with. They had one good player (Murphy). I think the blame for today lies at the hands of the team, for whatever reason, the urgency for quality throughout the team wasn't good enough. Hopefully they are on song against Sheff U.

I agree with Clive in the match report in that I think we have to be realistic that Martì got this one wrong . We haven't really worked out how to set up away from home yet. Being generous you could say that he felt emboldened to try to play the way he wants us to play regardless of who we're playing or where, but our midfield couldn't cope with it. I agree with Hoopsa in that it looked a game for Morgan to come back in, Field and Varane didn't offer enough options for the defense under the press, and lacked the dynamism to get us up the pitch. He's a great coach and we're lucky to have him, but he's still fairly new to the league and will get things wrong from time to time

Why do you bother watching these interviews?
They aren’t going to change. Ever. You will not find what you are looking for in them. Never. Ever. Yet you insist on watching them and picking them to pieces. Always.
Had to pick up on your Varanne comment Re: won’t cut it in the Championship I didn’t watch this game but I’ve watched him in plenty of others. He will absolutely do well at this level and his progress across the season convinces me he may well excel. No idea what more you could demand from him this season other than maybe a couple more goals. Clearly he’s not the rebirth of Patrick Viera but he’s certainly been dominant in a good few fixtures when needed.
That’s all I have to say….. no handbags required
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Agreed, and it's the same old song about the manager only being able to do so much until the players cross the white line; then they do have to take some responsibility in terms of adapting to the game in front of them.
But I still disagree with the manager's starting line up, and as mentioned he probably could have made his subs sooner.
Ultimately though pretty much all the players has a bad day at the office; main thing is we learn from the mistakes and we do better in the next match.
