Do these goals count towards his official tally or are they considered similar to a friendly game?

Of course they do. They are competitive cup fixtures

Regional cup tournaments exist everywhere. I don’t like this competition, but it’s no different to the EFL Trophy, both are national competitions.

Anything else is down to personal preference.

For teams in, erm, Lancashire.

We'd better add two goals to Dean Walling's paltry tally then, hadn't we?

If we started adding Lancashire Cup goals from the 1960s and 1970s then I should imagine that Big Reg’s career goal tally would increase.

Just as the Lancs Senior Cup goals shouldn't be included in the final tallies due to the competition not being of national status, so last night's competition shouldn't be included because it's not a competition involving the 'first teams' of all entrants

Hendo's reaction after both strikes showed how little store he set by them

Then we’d have to wipe out his strikes in the EFL Trophy, making his much celebrated record breaking goal against Salford a non-event.

It’d upset Ethan Brierley too.

I celebrated that along with everyone else

We have to be very careful how we value goals, and those scored against a youth age group outfit just can't have the same value against those scored in a competitive first team fixture, which the Salford fixture clearly was

Maybe we should ask Hendo himself whether he thinks last night's goals should be added to his tally?

I think his answer would be pretty obvious. As a striker, he'll be happy with all goals, whenever and wherever they come.

If it makes him that bit sharper and hungrier for when he is called upon in National League matches, which he surely will be given the plethora of games coming up, it will only be to our benefit.

I don't dispute he'd have been pleased to have put the ball in the net, but (having watched the highlights) his reactions upon scoring both were much more subdued than usual, having scored against an U-21 outfit

On the point of being involved in NL fixtures, it's the manager who needs to feel sharper and hungrier, having watched Hendo do what he does better than anyone at the club!

Yeah the record breaking goal was against Salford in a league game, having, ironically scored against the same team the previous month in the EFL Trophy.

There were also other goals in the Trophy after they let in u21 teams, including one against Sunderland u21s.

Putting the keeper currently second in the pecking order (at the time) into cup fixtures has become a frequent occurrence among Premier League managers, including at the level of European competition. That's hardly something that could detract from his goal

Not sure too many players celebrate goals to any great extent in the group stages of these competitions. It was similar in the EFL Trophy.

At least we're having a proper debate on here about something football-related

Should last night's "crowd" be classified as Dale's lowest ever crowd?

It was announced as 331, the same as the Stoke game. It wasn't the same people as TalkingSutty wasn't present this time.

As people paid to get in (albeit only ÂŁ2), it counts as a "crowd", although perhaps with an asterisk next to it.
