offside but played onside 16:24 - Jan 14 with 729 views | sledger | can any referees or experts clear this up for me.This is one incident which happens all the time,it involved harry maguire who touched a through pass to a player in an offside position thus potentially in the eyes of the law played him onside although on this occasion it wasnt deemed onside on many occasions it is.My argument is that the linesman flags if the player is in an offside position the moment it leaves the passers foot therfore the ball is dead from that moment on so why the contraversy over the defender touching it as hes entitled to,l just dont get it.

offside but played onside on 17:01 - Jan 14 with 637 views | saint901 | It's one of those subjective things. If Maguire had missed the ball completely = offside If he tried to reach the ball but failed to control it = offside If the ball was played "slowly" from a distance and he scuffed it into the feet of the forward = onside.

my issue is the lino gives offside from when the ball is played forward, nothing is subjective after that its fact,we really know how to complicate simple rules
offside but played onside on 19:15 - Jan 14 with 505 views | pjt50 | Just standing in an offside position when the ball is played isn't an offence so isn't flagged. You often see players not going for a ball because they know they would be pulled up for offside if they did. “A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play” (LOTG 11.2)

“A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play” (LOTG 11.2) Or surely "interfering with play" ie - blocking the keepers view of the ball or something. But I can see where Sledger is coming from. In that particular instance I would have said it was offside cos I believe he was when the ball was initially kicked despite McGuire getting in the way?
offside but played onside on 09:52 - Jan 15 with 321 views | SouthSeaSaint | On another point for those who understand the Laws Of The Game: is the non direct free kick for obstruction now a thing of the past Likewise handball against 'keepers when kicking out of hand when their feet and the ball are outside the penalty area
offside but played onside on 14:14 - Jan 15 with 228 views | saint901 | I think the obstruction rule exists but there has been a shift in how refs are interpreting physical contact. It seems that if the ball is not within playing distance, then pretty much any form of wrestling is allowed to go (including at corners) and I suspect that this is why obstruction is rarely given these days. Blatantly blocking off a run is often pulled up and results in a booking. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
offside but played onside on 14:20 - Jan 15 with 219 views | saint901 | Keepers can kick a ball anywhere on the pitch. The assumption is that the ball leaves the keeper's hand inside the area but is kicked outside the area then it's not handball.

It's not only Saints who suffer from unfair refereeing decisions. In nearly all of the matches I've watched this season at every level, the officials have erred in favour of the bigger club. This was particularly evident in the FA Cup match between Tamworth and Spurs, which Tamworth would have won if the referee Peter Bankes hadn't decided that Spurs would. For example, at 0-0 a Tamworth forward was shoulder charged in the back by a Spurs player who made no attempt to play the ball. The referee waved play on. Spurs then ran up to the other end and a Tamworth defender did a legal shoulder to shoulder charge and the referee immediately awarded a free-kick from which Spurs scored. It was very clear favouritism. To make matters worse, Drăgușin was finally given a yellow card after committing a series of dangerous fouls, and then he committed 2 further yellow card offences. Bankes didn't want to reduce Spurs to 10 men so he left him on. It's big club + referee vs smaller club. On another note, how much longer can Cucurella be allowed to get away with his persistent cheating? I'm pretty sure that if he played for a smaller club than Chelsea, he'd have been in serious disciplinary trouble by now: a deserved lengthy suspension. [Post edited 15 Jan 15:16]

i understand the not active side of offside but if hes stood in an offside position and is interfering with play then he is offside the moment the ball is played forward is he not or am i just dumb,as such any touch after the offside should be of no interest

Interference means “becoming involved in active play“. This could be by playing the ball or interfering in some way with an opponent. Until that happens - including the time when an opponent's touch may play them onside - no offence has been committed. https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11
