We won't be favourites to come straight back up this time. 14:58 - Jan 12 with 576 viewsGRIM

2 years ago when relegated to Championship we were bookies favourites to come straight back up.
I'd be very surprised if we are regarded as favourites to come back up 25/26 season.
I just think the club in general is in a worse place now than we were then.
Weaker squad, lower moral & have got used to losing.
But same owners that is the problem.

We have acquired a squad of decent Championship players.

But then so have Ipswich.

If they go down and keep McKenna (who I think is excellent and a world away from David Brent) they will be favourites to come back up.

Leicester's managerial situation might be a bit more fluid.

We should certainly be in the mix, but it's such a hard League to predict.

If they go up, both Birmingham and Wrexham will probably be strong.

I am assuming that Wolves will stay up.

Once again this season, I see the Championship is a four horse race to get promoted.

Nothing in it between the top 4 clubs and then there's a 9-point gap to 5th place.

When, not if, we go down - I'd like to think that we'd be amongst the leading pack next time around. Hopefully the Summer will see wholesale changes in the squad with some of the shirkers/loafers/utterly useless/gutless players leaving.

It'll be all about the new additions as to whether or not we yo-yo back up again... and SR's ability to acquire said players. Hopefully Juric will still be here and have a say in that.

And then there's the two derby games against that lot down the M27. What's not to like?

I actually think we will be in a stronger position, if we discount the players who will definitely go ie Ramsdale, Dibling, Fernandes, KWP, Ugochukwu, Brereton Diaz, Sulemana & Onuachu, but will put a fair few bob in the transfer kitty, then we will still have.

Also those who might go, ie Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap, Harwood Bellis, Stephens

Goalkeepers Bazunu, Lumley

Full Backs, Manning, Bree, Sugawara, Welington, Larios

Central defenders - Edwards, Wood, Taylor .

Midfielders - Downes, Smallbone, Lallana, Aribo, Charles

Wide Players, Amo-Ameyaw, Edozie, Frazer,

Strikers - Armstrong, Stewart, Archer, Ballard

We have the foundations of a decent squad there, add in a few promising youngsters & we can improve the areas we are weak in with a few permanent or loan signings plus if maybe one we expect to go, stays.

So the basis of the squad is no weaker than we were in the Championship last time and with a few tweaks can be better , from that squad we would be only a centre back and a forward short.

Is there also anyone due back from Goztepe?

Brereton Diaz will probably stay.

Taylor is a left-back.

Lallana will surely retire at the end of the season.

Larios may as well retire.

Stewart ditto.

Stephens will only go anywhere if David Brent gets another job and he takes him.

Although primarily a left back, Taylor has also played at centre back, he played most of his games in Burnley's promotion season ion this position and at that level is comfortable.

Diaz will go probably on loan, but if he did stay at Championship level he would be an asset.

Larios hasn't played for two years, if he does return its a bonus, likewise Stewart.

So as I said overall as a squad we are not weaker than two years ago, indeed we may well be stronger with Edozie & Charles more experienced.

As our comrade from Sandbanks has mentioned earlier, Birmingham and Wrexham will be around the top and Leicester and Ipswich/Wolves.

Will be a tough league.

Will Juric fancy it?

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.
