Aintree/Masters Golf on 09:23 - Apr 9 with 2028 views | ElHoop | Racing was really shit yesterday on the betting front anyway. Golf went a bit better but it could go either way. If Rory gets in front I think I'll pull out the stumps and lay it off and take the money back. Then it's down to the others I've backed as they'll be free bets. I've already backed a few in the National. The 2014 RSA Chase has been the key to most of the big chase races in the past year: « 1 O'Faolains Boy (IRE) 12/1 7 11-4 Rebecca Curtis 144 * * » Barry Geraghty « 2 nk Smad Place (FR) 13/2J 7 11-4 Alan King 148 * * » Robert Thornton « 3 6 Morning Assembly (IRE) 9/1 7 11-4 P A Fahy 146 * * » Davy Russell « 4 2¼ Ballycasey (IRE) 13/2J 7 11-4 W P Mullins 157 * * » R Walsh « 5 nk Sam Winner (FR) 12/1 7 11-4 Paul Nicholls 147 * * » Daryl Jacob « 6 1 Carlingford Lough (IRE) 7/1 8 11-4 John E Kiely 150 * * » A P McCoy « 7 9 Just A Par (IRE) 16/1 7 11-4 Paul Nicholls 148 * * » Noel Fehily « 8 23 Annacotty (IRE) 20/1 6 11-4 b Martin Keighley 146 * * » Ian Popham « 9 ¾ Gevrey Chambertin (FR) 25/1 6 11-4 t David Pipe 147 * * » Tom Scudamore « 10 16 Corrin Wood (IRE) 10/1 7 11-4 Donald McCain 156 * * » Richard Johnson « F Don Cossack (GER) 11/1 7 11-4 t Gordon Elliott 152 * * » B J Cooper « F Le Bec (FR) 10/1 6 11-4 Emma Lavelle 149 * * » Aidan Coleman « PU Samingarry (FR) 100/1 7 11-4 Nigel Hawke 126 * * » Paul Moloney « BD Many Clouds (IRE) 16/1 7 11-4 Oliver Sherwood 145 * * » Leighton Aspell « F Black Thunder (FR) 16/1 7 11-4 Paul Nicholls 153 * * » Nick Scholfield I told a mate of mine about this and he threw in Holywell who beat a lot of those horses in the 2014 Aintree novice chase a few weeks later. So I'll go for all of those that are running today: Many Clouds O'Faolains Boy Morning Assembly Ballycasey Just a Par Black Thunder But I don't think Ballycasey gets the trip so I'll have Holywell instead but no doubt some other nag will win!

Aintree/Masters Golf on 20:30 - Apr 8 by ingeminate | Only small change but I put on a couple of quid on the double but then cashed out for 10 when native was ahead but I thought he'd be caught - early on in the race. Would have been 67 if i held on - but still a cracking tip - missed you at Cheltenham!! What you thinking about tomorrow? |
Ah, you should have held your nerve. He was always going to lead off and try to gallop into the ground. Today: The Last Samura and Holywell are my main picks. I think Wonderful Charm is a good outsider. I would love Conti to win for sentimental reasons and wouldn't be at all surprised if the fav, Many Clouds, won. Also, in the 1.45, quite fancy Arpege D'Alene.

I watched it live and the commentary said he was a stayer, only I'd cashed out by then. Then as predicted he stayed and en temps or whatever his name was fell away. Maintains my 100% record of getting cash outs wrong! I've got a couple of bets on Thomas brown and shut the front door. Otherwise I'll put a couple on wonderful charm.

Aintree/Masters Golf on 22:45 - Apr 9 with 1813 views | Boston | Don't bet much, sometimes might go a year between something catching my eye and then it might not even be a horse race. Strangely, with that said, I'm as likely to wager quite heavily as put a tenner on when I do decide to flutter. As some of you are aware, I'm the son of a Jump Jockey so Steeplechasing has always had a passing interest with me and of course I married a Bookies daughter, so we're familiar with the racing world and reasonably conversant with the lingo that goes with it. The way we always placed a bet on a lottery like the National (my favourite bar none sporting event), was to pick two horses. The first was your real bet, the second, that outsider fancy based on virtually anything, name, colouring, sometimes even the going. I'd love to say I'd put a grand on the nose of Rule the World, but I didn't.

Aintree/Masters Golf on 07:02 - Apr 10 with 1757 views | westberksr | Delighted all the horses came back in one piece yesterday. Was too busy with work and missed this thread but will add a couple of points regarding upcoming jockies. Gavin Sheehan, has ridden for me and know him quite well being based in Lambourn, if confidence counts for anything this kid will go to the top; he has it in spades. Very good rider. The other one which may sound bloody obvious is David Mullins. His experience to date in big races is excellent, we needed a jockey for the conditionals race last year at Aintree and he rode our horse to win a 22 runner race as easy as you like (in blue and white hoops of corse),this 2 weeks after coming second in the Irish National, then yesterday picks up the big one and then can keep his head together to repeat his win in the conditionals race again. Not bad for a 19 year old. Otherwise a moderate meeting for me, slightly down. As for the golf, no fukkin idea. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Aintree/Masters Golf on 07:23 - Apr 10 with 1750 views | BrianMcCarthy | Four horses killed at Aintree this year. I know many of my friends on here follow the racing but I'm afraid that I think it's horrible and unjustifiable. Not preaching, just my opinion.

Nearly went to bed after Speith birdied the 9th but thought you never know. The most unexpected melt down in years whilst Danny boy played like a dream. Your bro must have been smiling like a Cheshire Cat after the 12th😉
Aintree/Masters Golf on 07:35 - Apr 11 with 1534 views | ElHoop | Amazing tournament - fantastic back 9 by Willett and the English boys generally played really well in very difficult conditions. They were a credit to us. In the end I came out of it well on top and I can't quite believe how that happened, but that's how it goes. Now doubt Rory was on the phone to Chubby to say well done your man mate, haha. Not. Some food for thought for Rory I'd have thought, given Willett's obviously settled family life. Tough luck on Spieth. I can't see that as a Norman style collapse. Sure he mucked up the 12th but he kept coming back for more, which Norman never did. He's very game.

Stayed up until midnight, when Speith failed to birdie the 17th and the Green Jacket was secured. Regretted it when the alarm went off at 5.30am this morning. Great sporting weekend

I very nearly gave up too but glad I stayed with it. In bed at 1am, 3 month old wakes up at 4.30am, alarm goes off at 5.30am zzzzzzzzzzz Loved it near the end when Willett's watching Speith finish his round on the TV, he gets bundled by his caddie when they realise he's won it, Willett's on the phone to his missus and says 'I'll call you back'.

McIlroy's won three Majors since he left Chandler, Never looked settled in this one, though. Not sure which of the co-commentators said it but the line of the day was that should Speith stumble the others have to be ready. Willet was, playing steady, sensible golf. McIlroy spent the last two days taking unnecessary chances. I thought that Willett's tee shot and birdie on the sixteenth last night, minutes after he found out that he was in pole position, was extraordinary. Unbelievable mental strength.

There's something wrong with McIlroy at the moment - he's lost his way a bit. I don't know why that should be, but he seems to have had too many distractions with girlfriends and management and clubs and whatever else he's been up to. That's probably not all his fault but he's no playing like a guy who is entirely right in the head and Augusta isn't the place for that sort of frame of mind. Spieth was stumbling and recovering throughout. It was annoying (for me) that when he came back to the field nobody really put him under pressure and he could recover and go away again, until the final capitulation. At that point Willett raised his game in a way that Johnson and Westwood couldn't manage, and that's why he won. Even then I thought that he mucked up the last par 5 and that could have been costly had Spieth knocked in the putt on the 16th.
Aintree/Masters Golf on 09:57 - Apr 11 with 1443 views | TheBlob | You won't get those sorts of prices on Danny now. We've been following his progress for some time, knew he'd come good,to the extent of having a 150/1 ante post win for the Open some time back. That's put the mockers on it .

Agree about McIlroy at the moment, though it seems to me that the few moves he's made have been magnified because of his high profile, something Willett may have to get used to if he wins another few Majors. Golfers change their management, clubs and relationships all the time, but it's the hoopla that goes with it that is dangerous. McIlroy's going through a phase where he seems to lack a bit of confidence. When Speith hit the tee shot into the grandstand on the 4th on Saturday, leaving an opening for McIlroy, only for McIlroy to do exactly the same it seemed to knock him too much. On the next hole Speith drove into the woods and McIlroy drove beautifully, yet after two shots they were in the same bad spot on the lower edge of the green. He just didn't seem to believe that steady golf was either required or possible. Willett did. The other truth is more straightforward - Willett played better!

I agree that golfers have issues from time to time, like anyone does, but Rory seems to get into more than most. Hopefully he's settling down a bit in his private life and that will help him. There's a lot of very good golfers out there at the moment and he's unlikely to dominate even if he's at his best. Spieth was criticised for going to the middle and far easts at the end of last year, instead of taking a longer break. That might have come home to roost here as he was making tired mistakes at the end. He's such a great player though - really tough. In a way he impressed me even after he went in the water - he was gone but he still kept on battling and was the only other possible winner. Not many could have done that.

Agree with all that. Good points. Speith kept going, didn't he? Hugely impressive to watch him grind on.
