And they have been gone for a long while. If you listen to the BBC, you'd believe racism was bubbling at the surface of British football across the leagues, ready to cause chaos and division at any moment. My wife is Asian and my kids are mixed race, we've been to loads of Saints games together (including Millwall) , and never had a spot of bother. In fact, the closest to an incident I can think of was about 15 years ago, away at Old Trafford, when a fellow Saint saw an Asian friend of mine and loudly told a joke in which he imitated a Chinese accent, badly! We just shrugged it off.
This isn't to say that nasty incidents don't or can't happen but in my experience they are very few and far between and get blown out of proportion by the media. |
