Franchise to come unstuck against the Super U's at Stadium MK
at 13:18 2 Mar 2025

The seat numbers are underneath so can only be seen if the seat is in its upright position. But unless a contortionist, you only notice these on any unoccupied seats in the rows behind as these numbers are located deep set about ankle height. However, the policy was patently “sit where you like” which produced a shambles.

Wessex, I saw you parked just below the disabled gallery which was chokka with folk trying to get to any place from where they might have an unobscured view. The large away numbers was clearly not thought through by the MKD management. They didn’t even properly open the exit gates so that was a crush. But few clubs do, as everywhere we go there seems to be one issue or another (example, Harrogate no bus drop off permitted for disabled, Bromley inadequate ladies loos and catering). The Jobserve isn’t perfect, but the Legends Bar and Fan Zone welcomes travelling fans.

We were also initially refused access to the Red Dot Bar where we have always been made welcome in the past. The nearest pub is 1.8 miles away. We got in after arguing it was disability discrimination given our average age exceeded 70. Clubs have become distinctly less welcoming for honest decent away fans.

Not surprised at the catering issues. MKD were evidently unprepared. Apart from the result the experience was pretty ghastly for many. Over bearing security on entry, but zero inside. Frankly, it was hard to see anything when so many kids were standing and showing total disrespect for older less able fans. Despite polite requests, the stewards did nothing to enforce the EFL all seated rules.

Frankly, I have no problem with the kids standing where reasonable, but please do so only at the back. There were acres of empty space with good viewing at our end, but we couldn’t move into it because of canvass barriers. Given the huge stadium capacity, why corral 1300+ away fans into a corner space that could barely hold 1350 and then not enforce pre-match seat selection? I arrived at 1440 and considering the magnificence of the stadium was forced to stand myself for much of the game else see nothing. The two (far more) aged couples to my left saw zilch, and left commenting that they won’t travel away again if this is how U’s fans behave (e.g. refusing to sit after polite requests to do so). I blame the stadium for not offering more seating space so the wishes of both groups could be satisfied, or else enforce seating restrictions.

It’s got even better for me having the two EFL results spot on and stalemate in others.

Taking nothing for granted though. This final isn’t over yet.

Super U's to make the Dons an offer they can't refuse on Saturday afternoon
at 22:36 22 Feb 2025

A game we really should have won. Dominant in the first half only to concede in the Wombles only attack. More frustration in the second half, but we score once DC goes two up front with Tovide paired with Taylor. Funny that…….

Lies, damn lies and statistics
at 07:03 18 Feb 2025

Irrespective of the statistics and probabilities, I believe it’s not in our interest to be promoted this season. After years of disappointment, can’t we simply enjoy a winning streak and an upper half finish?

We are too dependent on loanees and our fabled academy isn’t yet producing the conveyor belt of talent expected. After the euphoria of this season (e.g. relative to the misery of the last ten), I’d hate to see us in League One immediately losing every week and struggling to stay up. We are only just starting to woo back the fickle fans lost after the move from Layer Road and many seasons of despair. If our progressively rising gates collapsed because the team slumped (yet) again, pressure then falls on the Cowleys with no available money to bolster the squad to League One standard.

I think we should enjoy the moment, and like in the Parkinson era, look to achieve any promotion ambition in year two of the Cowleys tenure, when they will have had the benefit of three transfer windows to shuffle the pack, and enough time to build the fan base for revenues to grow the budget in line with Financial Fair Play rules. Remember, our wage bill is limited by the numbers through the turnstiles. Mid-table League Two isn’t a bad place to be. Southend, Oldham, and soon Morecambe, Carlisle or Tranmere fans will confirm.

As regards Tyreece, he reminds me of Sunday Wasu, but less athletic. If he doesn’t know what he is doing, he might baffle a few defences. But we run a sweepstake on how often he touches the ball in his current short cameos.

Super U's to outfox the Cumbrians at Brunton Park today
at 21:45 15 Feb 2025

The CUSA bus was just about to depart Corley Services when the team coach arrived. We paused to allow it to park alongside. Then came a surprise visit by DC and NC to personally thank travelling fans. Nice touch.

The players are probably racing for KFC (nothing else open except Burger King). They don’t know the bad news….. KFC served me my Mega Box for One and then run out of chicken.

Bus now stopped to fill up with fuel. 21-45, and still not passed Coventry City FC

Super U's to outfox the Cumbrians at Brunton Park today
at 18:54 15 Feb 2025

0600 departure today. Home circa midnight. I’m planning to be at Meadow Lane Gerry. I believe we have two coaches leaving the Jobserve Stadium.

261 was a brilliant turn out today, perhaps helped by school half term and thoughts that it might be the last opportunity to visit the Lake District combined with football. In the bar at lunch, Carlisle fans were convinced that today was going to be their win and Mark Hughes the new messiah. 7,000 disappointed home fans today. I bet fewer next week….

I was recently in Tenerife and couldn’t enjoy video (Sky or I-Follow) for a 1500 kick off, with or without VPN on. I subsequently emailed David Gregory at Col U and the reply said “we are not allowed to broadcast video for Saturday 1500 kick offs into the EU”. Audio has been fine.

I am speculating, but have you considered that “Peter Sensible” and “return to his car” might be code words alerting security staff to a type of incident and a specific location without alarming other spectators?

In modern times, the proliferation of personal radios or other alerts render this unnecessary. But in bygone days, coded words over the public address system were often employed to reach security, fire or other marshalls.

Had a worthy semi’s opponent in Daniel, and I will be giving mfb-cufc total respect in the final, unlike Liverpool versus Plymouth. Currently 1-0 and hopefully the Pilgrims will give Slot two black eyes.

Super U's display promotion credentials in hard fought victory today
at 15:58 8 Feb 2025

HT. and an air of confidence in the ground. Anderson should have put us ahead and 60%+ possession suggests good control. Walsall without Lowe looking fairly ordinary, hardly in our half.

I’d bring on Thorn for Anderson and add a tad more pace and height up front. Three points are feasible.

January 2025 transfer window hopes & facts
at 07:29 4 Feb 2025

Sounds like Sampson Tovide remains with us?

Given DC’s phone line was allegedly “hot”, yet he stays, does this mean Tovide’s injury is more serious? Have we exercised our right to extend his contract by another year? Surely, we are not going to let him walk away a free agent in June?

Given Sampson is staying and the signing of forwards Lisbie, Scully and Aboh, I wonder, will we ever see (on loan) Tyreece Simpson again? It is perhaps early days, but his uninspiring performances so far remind me of Sunday Wasui (or any other Sunday league player). Frankly, he can return to Stevenage.

Tyreece Lisbie is an interesting one. All the rumours were about his twin brother still at Braintree. I wonder how many of us read “ex Brentford FC” and thought the Gazette has it wrong? Also, how many clubs have two players named Tyreece? As I said, maybe we will soon have one!

Surprisingly, KVY is (arguably) the main gamble. He hasn’t played a first XI game in 12 months and has suffered more injuries than the six-million dollar man. So, have they rebuilt him? That doubt apart, it looks like a very satisfactory last day of the transfer window to me. We ask for a forward, and we get five (if we include retention of Tovide).
