News from Halifax Town today as well. The local council have agreed to sell the Shay to the owner of Huddersfield Giants rugby league club. They’re relocating to the Shay for a few years from 2026 so three clubs will be based there. In return he’s renewing the pitch and upgrading the floodlights and other facilities. Halifax Town fans are angry as apparently there’s an EFL rule that member clubs can only groundshare with one other team and so this could potentially block promotion for them.
I’ve made the conscious decision to go to the ticket office before the game tomorrow and buy one in person instead. Prefer to have a paper copy anyway.
Looking at DAZN their losses in their latest published accounts seem to be over £1 billion? The German government have pursued them for trading standards breaches and they’ve also had issues in Italy where they had the rights to Serie A only for the service to suffer from blackouts amongst other problems.
1400 is presumably how many they estimated they need. If they sell those there is spare capacity for a further allocation? I suppose if they don’t need more then some could perhaps go on general sale providing that segregation is possible eg separate toilets and refreshments provision.
I’m not so sure that they are there for the smashing. Beat Eastleigh last night with Norwood returning on the bench. And they’ve signed Kian Harratt although who would have bet on that? Apart from the player himself of course!
He seemed to change tactics quite effectively last night once Dale had gone 2-0 up and some subs had been made. Just after the introduction of Mitchell there was a stoppage in play and BJ brought Waller over to the touchine and from his gesticulations seemed to be telling him to “go long” which is exactly what happened when Mitchell scored the third.
Altrincham had one spell, midway through the first half, when they looked really dangerous and forced corners in quick succession. Apart from that, with the exception of a break from Newby following a Dale corner, Dale controlled the game I thought. Waller saved that one to one opportunity really well though. He’s so good in those situations. Did it in the cup tie the other week and also early on at Halifax. The best compliment that you can pay Kingdon is that Gordon isn’t being missed too much. He’s visibly growing in confidence with every game. Alty’s manager might boast that he understands how we play down the right but his team have been incapable of stopping TAR from getting to the bye line. Don’t forget that teams in the top places of the league have to play each other as the season reaches a climax - Oldham play Halifax next week for example.
To be fair there was a sense of despondency when the thread was started. Memory of the Boston postponement still lingered as did the thought of dire home performances against Oldham, Barnet and Ebbsfleet. Even what can be seen as decent away points at Southend and Halifax attracted criticism. March has been a completely different month though! There’s a long way to go yet but a feeling of optimism has returned.
I understand that the yoof (with the drum) are planning to go in the end block of the Pearl Street for this game. Bit of a dummy run for next season apparently.
There is a lot of giddy talk on Twitter this evening including make it a £1 in. Even if you got 8000 through the turnstiles it would be a loss making event and Spennymoor don’t deserve that. Don’t forget that £1 includes VAT. They need to be treated with respect. There are even a couple of comments along the lines of “are we invading the pitch if we win”. As if the pitch isn’t already wrecked!
These lads are mad keen fans and create a great atmosphere. There is the odd occasional moment of excess sometimes when they get a bit giddy but so what? It’s worth remembering that there may be games when a lot more of their mates turn up as well. I think the solution next season is to give them what they want ie the whole of that end block in the Pearl Street. There can’t be existing season ticket holders there this year because by and large it’s been used for visiting supporters. Make the entire block unreserved and let them get on with it in their own enclave. The only issue may arise when the Willbutts Stand is full for big games when that part of the ground might become confrontational corner. As for away fans, I seem to remember a game just over 20 years ago (I think it was Torquay in Steve Parkin’s first game back) when the away fans were accommodated in the far end of the Main Stand. Like you say, the decision needs to be made prior to season tickets going on sale.
