| News Comment | Saints V Happoel Be'er Sheva The Verdict at 10:48:27
We were so negative last night. Make no mistake Puel is going to come under increasing pressure in the coming weeks as i just can't see where the goals are going to come from to enable us to pick up results. Many of us felt that we would need more firepower and we are being proved correct. If we do not sign a couple of strikers in January we are going to struggle to stay up and that is not an OTT statement WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS. People like Nick are burying their heads in the sand pretending that everything is ok when it bloody well isn't. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. |
| News Comment | Saints Reportably Ready To Let Fonte Go ! Suggesting Replacement Is Already Lined Up ! at 12:34:59
Nick, How you have changed since those early SISA days eh? For me we should keep Fonte til the summer. To risk tampering with our defence half way through the season could prove disastrous, especially as we are the 4th lowest scorers in the Premier League! It's obvious to more or less the entire fan base (except you) that we need strikers as a priority before we can even consider playing around with our defence! Yes, if Fonte wants one last pay day then that i can also understand, but it has to be right for SFC, as I say letting him go in January is to risky IMHO. |
| News Comment | Nathan Redmond - A Split Personality Performance at 19:27:18
It is not Redmonds fault that Puel see's him as a striker. I can see him being an exciting player for us but as a creator. I just cannot see him as an out and out striker. We need another No9 type striker in the squad as far as I am concerned and we should have signed one during the last window. I see that Jayrod has already picked up another injury. I hope its nothing serious. |
| News Comment | Is Clause Puel Right To Be Satisfied With The Depth Of The Saints Squad ? at 12:10:41
Nick is doing his best to talk us up and i genuinely hope he is right. For me there is no doubting JayRods ability. If he stays fit and he gets close to where he was two years ago then that'd be brilliant. Likewise if Austin stays fit then he could well score lots of goals for us but the fitness of these players is what concerns most fans NOT their ability. Like other Saints fans, I feel the squad is to light to handle the amount of games we will face. We will pick up injuries and that's where the problems will multiply. We could well see youngsters thrown in to make up the numbers, this may or may not work if it does then brilliant but if it doesn't the club will receive a lot of criticism from its own supporters. Finally, the signals being sent out by the club in not strengthening adequately concerns the fans BUT I wonder what those players who have signed long term deals feel now. I wonder if they feel let down? Would they have signed longer deals if they knew what the club would do in the transfer window ? Then of course apart from the size of the squad we still have Puels system. If after another 3 or 4 games we still don't look like we are getting to grips with it will we stick to it? Are all of the other teams within the club switching to this system from the 4-2-3-1? There is a huge potential for a bumpy ride this season. |
| News Comment | Forward Planning Meant Quiet End To The Transfer Window For Saints ! at 12:44:27
Nick really does tow the club line nowadays doesn't he? When Saints play we will still want them to win every game, we won't be willing them to bloody lose FFS! We will all hope that we don't pick up injuries so we can have another successful season. However, you must be aware the same as me that there are many fans out there who believe the squad is weaker than last season and we have to contend with an extra 6 games in the Europa League. IF we pick up injuries and results in the Premier League suffer because of this, i can see the club via the echo saying they have to prioritise and we will field weakened teams in the Europa games and we will probably go out after the group stage i'd imagine. So, we would have spent all of last season trying to finish in the top 6 only to throw it all away due to the lack of quality cover within our squad. We all know that if and when results start to suffer 'because of injuries' the fans will remind the club that they did not do enough in this transfer window. The 'Puel and his system' issue may just make matters worse. |
| News Comment | Saints To Make One Signing ! But It Isn't What The Fans Want To Hear ! at 12:49:11
A big majority of Saints fans that I have listened to over the last couple of weeks are far from happy with the clubs efforts on replacing the quality that we have lost. Firstly, they are fed up with constantly selling our best players. Secondly, they feel that this summer Saints have gone from a club who wanted to get into the top 6, to a club that have chucked the towel in on retaining that ambition. Yes they have signed Boufall for 17m but it is clear to everybody (maybe not Nick) that Saints will need another striker. Nick is right when he says we need another centre half. Due to pieds injury we obviously need another right back too. Some fans have said to me that they feel we are missing Wanyama already, so some will argue we still need to strengthen midfield too. With European football just weeks away we are looking ill prepared to deal with the rigours of that and the Premier League, the EFL cup etc. So, after spending all of last season trying to qualify for Europe we will probably have to throw it away when we pick up injuries and we start to struggle in the Premier League. Without further signings today a struggle is likely in my opinion. Thirdly, I know its very early in the season but I have had several people say to me that they think Puels diamond formation is going to add to the problems and it looks to me that many of the players are unhappy with it. There could be a storm brewing before long at St Mary's i fear both on and off the pitch. It is totally avoidable. The club should be capable of pushing the boat out a bit more. It will be interesting to see what our spend is compared to everybody else when the window has finally shut. That will tell you everything about where the clubs ambition is. |
| News Comment | Saints At Manchester United The Verdict at 12:01:14
I don't want to sound like a stuck record but we need to sign a striker or maybe two. FWIW i think the Puel and the club themselves have doubts over Rodriguez and Austin. We need to address the situation urgently. We also need to ask ourselves if our squad has the depth to handle the rigours of the Europa League? We fought hard enough to get into it, the least we could do is be prepared to have a right go at it! I think we have quality in our squad but do we have enough of it for the demanding season ahead? If we fail to sign the players required then this season will become a major worry for me, because we will not score enough goals with what we currently have.I am no bedwetter i just say it as i see it, if other people want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that we are gonna be ok, then that is up to them. |
| News Comment | Why 10th Will Be Success For Saints This Season ! at 21:05:43
ATM despite the sales of Mane, Wanyama and Pelle we probably still have enough quality to stay out of trouble, although i have a feeling that we may struggle up front this season UNLESS we pay the going rate to get a GENUINELY DECENT STRIKER! If we do i reckon we can stay amongst it up the top end. I have to say though that I worry that the club are getting complacent as they appear to be reluctant to pay the going rates for players. You cannot replace players of Mane's quality on the cheap and decent strikers to replace Pelle do not come cheap either. We WILL need definitely need to replace Pelle as well because i have a feeling Austins fitness will rear its head again and Rodriguez may not now be the player he was a few years ago after those two bad injuries although i'd be chuffed to be proved wrong!. I am with Ali Diarea, the TV money, which is huge, should enable us to be more competitive when purchasing players but all we get told is that the club are re-investing the money from the sales of players into giving new contracts to players and buying replacement players.......there is some explaining that needs to be done with regards the other money that comes to the club such as what we got for finishing 6th last year, advertising and sponsorship, season ticket sales. YES the club has overheads but nobody is telling me that all of this money i have mentioned is being used to pay bills. Basically, if the club tries to shop on the cheap they will get what they pay for more often than not and we will go backwards. Finishing 10th IS a backward step and will be seen as such by most of the fans UNLESS we win a cup, in which case i could live with 10th this season. I just start to worry Nick when i hear you say that 10th will be a successful season for us, Have you been talking to someone at the club? Are they trying to prepare us for this? The cynic within me tells me that the club are chickening out of 'having a go!' If they utilised the other money i referred to they could push the boat out a bit more without endangering the club. As i say there are questions that need t be answered regarding the overall income and what it is being used for. These questions will get louder if it becomes certain that we are going to go backwards. |
