We were never ready for the Prem 10:32 - Mar 25 with 3654 views | WatfordR | Something that I've thought since it was evident we would start the season with Briatore & Ecclestone still in charge. Since Bhatia resigned as Vice Chairman in fact. No commitment or professionalism at that time in the Boardroom. Precious little Prem experience in the squad. Largely untested management and coaching team at Prem level. Once Fernandes & co arrived, everything was being done in a rush to try and catch up, and unfortunately it would seem that too many of the resulting signings and decisions haven't worked out. As frustrating as it is for all Rangers fans, especially those that are spending significant money to support the team home and away, if we do have to step back into the Championship, the club is much better placed now not only to make an immediate return to the Prem in 13-14, but to build foundations for a successful future as an established Prem club going forward. We have excellent and committed owners, a top class board and CEO, a management and coaching team which can improve us over the next two to three years and hopefully beyond, and a decent squad upon which to build. We are simply having to pay what I believe will be a short term price for a longer term gain. Sadly it's in a world where too many believe long term stretches no further than the next game.
We were never ready for the Prem on 10:50 - Mar 25 with 1900 views | ted_hendrix | No, we were never ready for the Prem, like I said on some other thread last night the minute we won at Watford last season is when we should have been preparing for the Prem The *fire sale* at the end of August was madness, rushing around trying to get in experienced Premiership players is not the way to do It. We currently have a sound financial backing thank god. We also need some form of stability therefore I hope we hang on to Mark Hughes. That's my opinion anyway.

We were never ready for the Prem on 10:57 - Mar 25 with 1883 views | Neil_SI | To be truly ready we need to improve our infrastructure (training ground, youth academy, scouting network, stadium) over our assets (the players). The lack of investment in the infrastructure by the previous board really told you a tale about what the intentions were. They only glammed things up with a new lick of paint here and there, but never addressed the fundamentals. Tony Fernandes is talking about all of the infrastructure, so it's important he continues down that road an ensures those plans are met. Players and managers will always come and go, that cycle will continuously repeat, but we have a better chance of attracting correctly if we have our house in order. It's that investment that will really help secure our future and give us a platform and foundation to build on.

Totally agree with all that, warnock did great getting us up on very little, we went from getting out of relegation to winning the league in 1 season

Disagree about keeping mark Hughes , since his arrival we on the pitch have gone backwards , we seem to start games now with no actual game plan , yesterday I actually thought we may take the game to Sunderland , little bit of confidence gained after the Liverpool result helping matters , we kicked off and it was same as usual no commitment , no actual game plan of any sorts add to the mix a ref who booked every player making is first foul and diakte bein a passenger till the I've he taken off before he was sent off the display and performance was a dsastor , I'm sitting here writing this from Newcastle airport after spending shed loads of money time and effort watching yet another crap performance away from home . Oh and my replacement for Hughes would be a certain Ian holloway he's learned a lot since he left LR plays attacking football and wouldn't let some of our cash hungry mercenaries get away with the regular way below par performances that we have witnessd way to many imes this season

We were never ready for the Prem on 11:10 - Mar 25 with 1842 views | carlosthebulb | excellent post which I totally agree with. However uncomfortable it's become following Rangers, deep down I know we will be better off. I've accepted relegation now because yesterday highlighted such a lack of motivation and discipline it was disturbing. Roll on pre-season when hopefully the players at the club want to be at the club. Then we can move on
We were never ready for the Prem on 11:13 - Mar 25 with 1828 views | WatfordR | Agree with Neil & Ted. Yes, the infrastructure is how the club will achieve long term stability and sustainability, and yes keeping Hughes will allow us to build a short and medium term strategy for success on the pitch. He is a Prem manager, he can put together a squad good enough to get us up (if we get relegated) and also have the backbone of a Prem team which won't need wholesale reconstruction once we are up. Worth saying too that for all their faults, and their were PLENTY of those, B&E left us in a better position than they found us, and we might never have had Fernandes and Bhatia in place if B&E hadn't been here. Again, a bit of short term pain for long term gain I'd say.

Don't often disagree with you Will, but on this occasion I do. We need a manager to get us out of the Championship who would also be good enough to take us forward in the Prem. Holloway is I agree a better manager now than when he left us - more experienced - but I think he still managed to grab relegation out of the clutches of safety last season. If he'd bought any kind of centre half to replace Evatt, they'd probably have stayed up. I don't see he'd be much different to having Warnock on board tbh.
We were never ready for the Prem on 11:26 - Mar 25 with 1792 views | adhoc_qpr | Realistically though, next summers going to be a mess of speculation about Hughes future and trying to shift these overpaid d*ckhead players out the door. Not too mention all the inevitable press speculation about financial ruin, owners bailing out etc etc. Sadly i can see us starting next season very badly, low on morale, players trying to leave, divisions in the camp around who has relegation wage drop clauses... If i was TF or Phil Beard i'd be straight on the phone to all of the mega rich Qatar, UAE, Uzbek and Russian clubs to try and offload the high earners. It's the only low quality standard of football that will pay what they idiots think they deserve. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I agree that we weren't ready. I can accept being outclassed every week but our performances have been awful. Players failing to control the ball. Free kicks corners continually under hit. Players not marked, indiscipline. Former England internationals running round like it's the first time they've ever played. The list goes on and on. Feel sorry for Hughes the players he's inherited can't even do the basics.

Indeed. When Fernandes came in he went through the motions telling the fans that QPR was the little club that could and that if relegation came, we'd be absolutely find and Warnock would be manager regardless. He insisted 'stability' was the aim of the game. However the second relegation was uttered he panicked and sacked the manager rather than looking at the expensive wasters he had contracted to play for the club. Of course it's entirely his right to run the club as he sees fit. Taking a squad that won promotion off the back of its togetherness & fight rather than an excess of talent, adding some obscenely paid 'names' to it, then sacking the manager when a plucky squad that gave 200% morphs into a fractured and uninterested group smacks of a gross lack of knowledge of football as well as the club itself. Unfortunately Fernandes comes across as being completely starstruck around Barton, Ferdinand, Wright-Phillips and it seems like Fernandes has finally had a rude awakening about 6 months too late. We could've easily stayed up with a settled management team and sensible investment in January. If you believe the rumours, Warnock wanted Yakubu, Fernandes wanted a big name player. And that says it all IMO.
We were never ready for the Prem on 14:00 - Mar 25 with 1647 views | Pablo_Hoopsta | I think Fernandes came in so late Warnock didn't have sufficient time to prepare, he had been cutting his cloth thinking it would be another season of BE and FB. He only had a week with . Then ifvTF wanted a change he should have done it at star of December to give the new man time to get to know the team before thinking about players to bring in, but he didn't and only had two weeks to do it all. Not enough time for either manager, and now we have a squad of disillusioned heros from last season, panic buys and mercenaries - if we stay up we need the preseason to sort it out, if we go down we better live and learn and have the momentum to keep going forwards. The changes in ownership, management and playing staff leaves us unrecognisable in every sense.

Agree with all of the above. Ideally we should have toughed it out by saying "We got up with this team, so we don't need to buy anyone till the January transfer window" Such a shame that Neil & co seemed to panic. If the first game against Bolton had not been 0 -4, we could have seen it through. All that Premier League payment wasted on Barton, SWP, Bothroyd, Dyer, Ferdinand ; to name the worst decisions. I wonder how that now looks to Smith, Goorks, Akos, Connolly, Routledge, plus those that are still the Championship side who are holding down a place. Hindsight is wonderful, so is common sense. Problem is... it's not so common.

*However the second relegation was uttered he panicked and sacked the manager rather than looking at the expensive wasters he had contracted to play for the club. Of course it's entirely his right to run the club as he sees fit.* What was TF to have done? any fool who was at the MK game back in January could see that there was something dreadfully wrong with the playing staff/the management staff and from where I was sat in the crowd pretty much most of the QPR supporters. It hasn't worked out for us this season for a whole range of reasons, I'm not quite sure what you're *beef* is with TF, but while TF has to carry some responsibilty, the finger can be pointed plainly at the so called experienced players who were brought in to do a job and have failed miserably. We were promoted with a squad of hard working players and a player who defensive midfielders and defenders just couldn't deal with. Stepping up a league means you have to step up you're playing staff and hope/expect them to do what they are paid for. We must be thankfully the only club in the whole goddam footballing world who whilst sinking fast are not shouting "sack the board" Now that's a rarity. Thank fck.

We were never ready for the Prem on 14:15 - Mar 25 with 1613 views | TGRRRSSS | It's fairly obvious that Warnock was not going to be a long term planning manager either, he brought in mostly 30 somethings experienced nouse and knowhow which is fine up to a point, but even he didn't believe in the absolute best terms he'd do more than 2-3 years before retiring having had a nice pay day - as he's left earlier than perhaps he thought - in part due to his success so quickly last season, he's gone elsewhere, but it'll be interesting to see what he does at Leeds. My best guess is similar. I also echo Ted (I was at MK game) that he was not able to cajole things any further for whatever reason and it was time for him to move on sadly. That being said Hughes hasn't really improved things all that much but I don't believe the squad such as it was would have done much better, however I'd question one or 2 people who left as the incomeers aren't an improvement.

Exactly what I was going to say about who brought those players to the club...... typed a big thought out response and then lost it :-( Anyway, how anyone can blame TF is beyond me, if we keep him, Amit and Hughes then even if we are in the Championship next year we will be in a much healthier position. This thread is actually cheering me up as it seems 'most' QPR fans realise the bigger picture and know (hope!!) that relegation is not really a problem and given the last few years should be expected but we will finally have a club with stability........ something we have lacked for about 17 years. Bring on next season, wherever we are :-)
We were never ready for the Prem on 17:06 - Mar 25 with 1466 views | SpiritofGregory | The problem is that we signed rejects from other clubs. All the players that we signed were not wanted by their then clubs - that speaks volumes. When you sign a player you look at their ability, past history and check to see what their response would be when the team are going through a bad patch. I've heard that when Bill Shankly went to watch a player, he would always ask what the player was like when the chips are down. If he was told that the player sulks, doesn't want to fight for team or was disruptive, he'd walk away. SWP and Ohnoua both rotting in the reserves at Man City Ferdinand in the reserves at Sunderland, known for lapses in concentration and previously relegated at West Ham. Traore - Arsenal couldn't wait to get rid, in his last game for them they were busted 8-1. Young - not so young anymore and in the reserves at Villa. Punchen - what the heck was that about? Macheda - Italian playboy who has no future at Man Utd. Cisse - was having a bad time at Lazio. Zamora - is known for having a bad attitude, only came to us for the money. Taiwo - doesn't want to rough it or put his neck on the line. Diakite - is thick. Barton - the most self-centred, disruptive player in football. Already been relegated with Newcastle and offered on a free transfer. If we are relegated we should not pull any punches. We must try to rid ourselves of these type of players. Need to press ahead with new training facilities and have a good scouting system which can find quality players on a global scale who do not cost a fortune and who want to play for the club, not just the pay packet.

We were never ready for the Prem on 18:36 - Mar 25 with 1381 views | Gloucs_R | Cant wait for next season in the Championship. We need to stick with Mark Hughes, give him money to invest in players he wants. He's already bought in Onouha, Cisse, Diakite and Zamora, all quality players. We just need a few new players and we'llm be back in 2 seasons with a much better chance of staying up. Providing they all stay, even if some dont its not to bad.....look at the strikers we have next season. HH, Cisse, Zamora, DJ, Bothroyd, Mackie, Hulse. More than enough to get us back in the Prem. Its the midfield that needs sorting, plus a back 4 that regularly plays together.

TF has already said he wants Mark Hughes to stay. I agree, he needs to. Now we need stability in a manager for the next few years. Give MH what he needs to build his own Prem team.
