Pitch update on 11:37 - Jan 15 by 49thseason | Kingsway or AV it matters little, both have good motorway access and the surrounding area is away from housing so no real parking problems especially if we could get a bit of cooperation from places that dont work nights and Saturdays, Kingsway of course also benefits from the tram stop......who knows there might also be room for a helicopter pad!.. another benefit for the Borough! As some have pointed out a new stadium would also permit a number of peripheral businesses to piggy back around and inside it providing additional revenue. A new ground, a new start... just the small matter of £10m +....but then you imagine the Ogdens know plenty of potential investors. |
The only land that is available borders the cray and Buckley hill lane areas near to housing unfortunately. There is another patch of land near the Asda warehouse but that backs onto the new housing estates off Broad Lane and they are right nimbys around there.

I always thought the top of Springfield Park/ running track and pitches would have made a great location for a new stadium and sports village, you could even bring the golf course under the same umbrella and put a new access road in from Roch Valley Way or Bolton Road. Redeveloping the park also which is now looking tired and building a education/ residential complex with investment from the club, council, education, NHS, Government and grants. It's a massive footprint if you include the golf course and park and something that could benefit all parties. [Post edited 17 Jan 7:16]

Springfield Park received a Green Flag award for the first time in 2024. Green Flag award is the benchmark international standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Yes probably the best park in the Town but it used to be so much nicer and very well maintained. They had grass tennis courts also but I think they went a long time ago.
Pitch update on 12:19 - Jan 17 with 2970 views | robtheb | I mentioned on here so years ago about the old Carcraft site in Castleton as a new venue, now full of housing. Access could have been from Bolton Rd where Chamber House night club use to be. Direct access to the site could have been made, therefore not disturbing the residents on Nixon Street.

The company that bought the land were into remediation of toxic sites, so I guess they thought there was a way to do something, the obvious thing being to offer free dumping of soil and organic material to a depth of a metre or so and then in time putting concrete rafts down to build on. Or at least thats what was recommended by RMBC when they found asbestos on the site of the old High Birch school in Marland. Advice that the builder ignored and built houses on anyway ( just in case anyone was thinking of moving there).....

It forecasts it to stop raining from lunchtime Friday right up to kick off, plenty of time for the pitch to be playable.

That remains the forecast and with the winds that are predicted on Friday that should help dry the pitch too. As many have noted, the corner of the Pearl St/Main Stand looks a worry and it has to be properly covered over the next couple of days to try and at least prevent some water soaking into it. An opportunity appears to have been missed to do similar work as the centre circle which played quite well last night. Be interesting to see what effect the dryjecting has today as well.

I wonder if there continues to be a problem of rain falling on the rest of the playing surface which then drains down towards that corner? That's how it used to be before the supposed "pitch levelling" took place - which i believe may have been a significant proportion of the cost of the work undertaken which is now the subject of the questions being asked If upkeep of the pitch is a factor in negating insurance claims, surely the "levelling" aspect would be a separate issue from upkeep since it's meant to be a one-off piece of work irrespective of any other work done to the playing surface, i.e. there's still a slope! I wonder if the club are taking this into account? If that's happening re drainage, just covering that section of the pitch wouldn't be enough [Post edited 22 Jan 13:01]

True, though if that was the case with the surface obviously impacted in that corner, you’d think we’d have done similar work as the centre circle. It’s all guesswork of course as there hasn’t been much mention of the specific issues there. It’s obvious it was the main concern after last night though.
