Well, I was truly amazed to look at the League Two table and saw Grimsby Town in 7th position; 16 games played and 25 points. We of course have 14 points from 15 games and languish in 21st. David Artell is working wonders with the Mariners.
Also, for the first time since I don’t know when I’m not travelling to Cleethorpes and so will miss out on Gerry’s company and Papas fish n chips.
A combination of Sky TV, impending weather, babysitting duties means that I will watch another game on Sky.
The all-important weather forecast suggests 10 degrees Celsius, light rain and occasional snow showers. Not pleasant.
Also, Grimsby had a number of outdoor Christmas festivities planned but have had to either postpone them or move them indoors. Storm Bert has put paid to some of these activities. All in all, very sad indeed.
So, for those faithful CUSA members and others safe journey and I hope you enjoy the game. I’m going for a 2-1 Colchester victory with Tovide and Taylor on the scoresheet.
DC will be looking to field a strong team in order to secure that elusive Away win.
Sad news from Peterboro where Bradley Ihionvien faces two months on the sidelines following a freak injury and a bone growing where it apparently shouldn’t be. Get well soon Bradley.
We have also drawn Wimbledon in the BSM knock out stage. A chance for revenge after the opening day defeat.
So how bold will DC be on a shocking day weatherwise in Lincolnshire.
If they are all fit then let’s line up something like this:
Macey
Egbo Goodliffe Donnelly Iandolo
Thorn McDonnell Payne Edwards
Tovide Taylor
Subs Smith Flanagan Hopper Anderson Read Gordon Woodyard
Safe journey to the travelling faithful.
Enjoy the game.

Tremendous, well done!
That feels better.
Small steps....
Up our U's
So much better, gives a fantastic lift to the rest of a grey wet windy weekend. Well done the travelling support, you all deserved that!
Tbh, after a difficult first half against the wind, I thought we were good value for the win based on our second half performance. Considering Grimsby are in the play-offs, they were poor. Shows how even much of this division is. Got to do it all again with another early start and long trip to Fleetwood next Saturday, but this will give the squad a tremendous confidence boost.

Morecambe beat basket-case Swindon 3-2 at the County Ground. Although on face value we might have preferred a draw, I'm actually okay with that result, keeps them both at least 2 games below us. We'd have been in the S H 1 T if we'd lost though.

Wessex we only look higher up the table now.
DC is beginning to play his best XI.
He needs to stay strong and ensure that the top performing players are selected.
In atrocious conditions we eeked out the vital win.
Our best back four played today. Both the forest youngsters are on fire.
Hope Thorn is back next week.

This is an incredibly tight league this year and we haven't lost as many games as some in the top ten which bodes well for us if we can keep the unbeaten run going and start to pick up regular wins. Does look like DC is getting close to knowing his best X1

Meanwhile, on Planet Artell, the post-match interview takes delusion to another level.
Must have missed the first ten minutes where the game should have been already over. We will get relegated if we end up below them on that performance they served up. Most of the comments could be applicable to both sides, but at the end of the day the result counts despite what the stats say .
I was one of the 200 plus at Grimsby on Saturday. I can take responsibility for four point to U's in the last few weeks in my area; a point at Chessie and three points at Grimsby. Should I go to Notts County??? A word to all the U's supporters who made the journey to Grimsby, not only the very early start but with also the possibility of the weather causing postponement. Noah told me he set his alarm for 5.30!!!. I only know one around teatime. I had to leave home at 11.15 to make the ko. I absolutely admire your total commitment to the U's. Great to see an empty ground while we continued to celebrate with the team

After the last couple of matches I've paid extra attention to the views of the opposing fans. The consensus, both times, was that we were the better team and should've won comfortably. Interestingly both sets of fans seemed unhappy with their manager and recent performances by the team, This didn't really surprise me with Bradford as they are easily the biggest club in this division and should be right up there really. Grimsby fans being unhappy with Artell, some even saying he should be sacked, I found very surprising. As a club who has recently spent time out of the football league and had a bit of a relegation battle last season you would think they'd be pretty happy with where they find themselves right now. Is this just the general attitude of football fans these days? In that they have unrealistic expectations? Or has it always been like this and they just have more of a platform to voice it now?

The fact Grimsby are so high in the table is because they have the second best away record in the division (16 points from their last 6 games away). The fans are upset with Artell probably because they have now lost their last four home games, and played poor in them.

Before the game the stats - goals scored and conceded - were near on identical. Obviously Grimsby had made the most of their goals in their previous games. We are on the up now though. Witham Ladbrookes should start saving to pay me out.
