No more return rail tickets on 15:01 - Feb 6 by StevenageRanger | Not sure that is the case these days. Been better to buy a return to the London Terminal and then use contactless for the rest as it is capped at the TFL max. I stopped buying Travelcards about 3-4 years ago. For me its Kings Cross Return and then Contactless all day. |
The travelcard is cheaper from Ipswich to Shepherds Bush than tickets for Liverpool Street & then contact less. Mind you, the cheapest for me is return to Colchester & then a travelcard. This is cheaper than travelcard from Ipswich due to that just being off peak, whilst it's super off peak from Essex stations. Wouldn't it be good if we could have consistent fares! For midweek matches London night out & contact less beats all the other prices!

Surely that's right though. People using it free shouldn't be taking up the seats in the rush hour so commuters who pay have to stand. And if you're working then you can afford to pay for your journey as much as anyone else.

C an get the odd fare to Kings Cross for £5 single and then Contactless during the day with a £5 single home. Travel card is over £30 now for me. At worst it has always been c£18 return to Kings Cross. I must admit I dont travel on train loads but the times I have its been cheaper to do Singles/Contactless
No more return rail tickets on 11:05 - Feb 7 with 1234 views | Northernr | It's trains, in the UK, in 2023 - they'll be doing it to shaft you somehow. Got one of those 'Facebook memories' things a couple of weeks back of a trip we did to Newcastle with QPR where our train tickets were 10p each. East Coast used to run a rewards scheme where you got £1 a back for every £1 you spent with them, so over the course of the season we'd basically tot up enough points to take the group to an away game for 10p each. When Virgin took the line over they did a survey one of the questions on which was "would you like it if you could spend your reward points on a wider range of products?" I ticked no, because I was only ever going to use it for tickets, but obviously the way that question is worded people mostly ticked yes, because of course yes. They then used that to basically replace the whole rewards scheme with Nectar points, which are totally fcking useless and can't be used for train tickets. There was a campaign and a lot of anger among us regular passengers about it, and Virgin just pointed back to the survey - 80% of you told us you wanted a wider range of stuff. Basically, they didn't want us travelling to Newcastle for 10p any more. They've spent the last ten years tying up all the loopholes we used to use. You used to be able to split your ticket at Newark on that line and halve the price, because nobody ever gets on or off at Newark and you could get a return to London from there for £18. That's gone. They've got rid of a lot of the cheaper advance tickets. All of this done under the catch all title of "we're simplifying our ticketing to make it more understandable for passengers" - every single one of the things they've done have made it more expensive. This will be no different. You'll be getting screwed somewhere, somehow.

Come on Keir, time to get off your hands and actually make a plan

That's nothing, wait until you hear how much the foreign shareholders, including French and German train companies which allow them to subsidise their own fares, will be getting.

Indeed, also having all these new work from homers not using the service anymore. Monies going to have to come from some where.

No more return rail tickets on 21:14 - Feb 7 with 924 views | stowmarketrange | I’ve just seen that you can get a 3 year railcard for £46,which is £24 cheaper than the normal price with a special code.It runs until 30th June this year and it can be any railcard like 16-24,two together or an over 60’s card. You just go on the trainpal website and enter the RC007 code in the promotion box.I don’t know if the two together railcard has photo id or not,but it would save 1/3 on rail fares for those long away trips up north. My card doesn’t run out until July 24 so it wouldn’t be as good for me to use this offer.
No more return rail tickets on 21:51 - Feb 7 with 873 views | aston_hoop | They've been trialling free rail travel over here in Spain. Where I am in Catalunya, you pay a €10 deposit for local train services around the general Barcelona area and get the money back once you've made a certain number of journeys, I think its 16. Then there is a €20 option which takes you all over Catalunya on slightly longer range services. Was trialled at the back end of last year and been extended for the entirety of this year. Other regions of Spain doing it too so if anyone is visiting Spain for any amount of time, worth looking into that.
