Let's hope this event doesn't lead to people spending their time betting during this crisis. The last thing this country now needs is a gambling epidemic too.

I bet you they do

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

There’s a YouTube video about that put up yesterday.

Virtual Grand National is a Trojan Horse
Caan Berry

He puts up some very good points and explains how gambling costs the NHS over £100 million a year through mental health, then goes on about how 10000s will sign up today and a lot will do their bollox out of boredom in the next months.

Worth a look.

I bet the thousands who are gambling addicts don’t describe it as fun.

Those who have no self control will self destruct on something else if not gambling.

Leave the rest of us who enjoy a flutter including those who make a yearly profit alone.

We're not responsible for those who can't control themselves on the road to self destruction just as we're not responsible for those who can't control their drinking, drug taking etc etc.

One advantage of this years virtual grand national is that no horses were injured/killed though trying to explain that to my other half who not only had £2 on the winner but shrieked in dismay when the leader went down about two fences out covering her eyes and saying I don't care who wins now as long as that horse is OK.

It literally took me 5 minutes to get through the message that it was a cartoon race and horse, which kind of took away a bit of the initial pleasure of her horse winning the race.

Maybe right, but alcoholics and smokers cost the system/NHS far more.

I contributed rather more money than I could afford to the NHS and I didn't enjoy the race either, but hey, I'm not going out and spending money so perhaps I can afford it. I backed the horse with the spelling mistake, for no reason I can comprehend.

I only bet on the Grand National and then in moderation. I had 6 horses picked , starting with the longest odds horse , two in the mid range and two less than 20-1 or in the favourites bracket. £1 each way made me over £24 pounds out of a £12 stake and it was great fun. Even if you don’t win £12 shouldn’t break anyone’s bank.

Watching those beautiful electronic thoroughbreds gave me back a Much needed sense of normality yesterday.
