Great day out 19:02 - Jan 18 with 4544 views | queensparker | Sunny crisp day, full house, packed away end, Rangers riding their luck for once, Eze/Chair/Bright taking the piss, saved pen, red card, Wells playing like a defender but up front, new teenage centre back rampaging forward, early kick off meaning bonus post-match pub time, Brentford and Fulham mates happy as well, Joy Division songs ringing out... My favourite game of the year so far. F–k Leeds

Great day out on 19:58 - Jan 18 with 4237 views | oakskull | Yeah, a good day out. But we’re not there, yet. Kelly is miles better than Lumley, and it’s a failure of MW not recognizing or, rather, acting on that obvious fact much earlier in the season. However, I’m not sure he has sufficient aggression and physical presence to dominate the area and get to those high balls. He seemed somewhat passive, stuck on that line. Leeds was not capable of utilizing this (possible) problem. Others will. Kane is not a defender. His positioning is off. He is too often caught out on the wrong side of his man. Cameron is too slow on the ball from time to time, and tend to clear the ball towards the opposition’s attack, rather than away from it, when under pressure. But his strength is important. Our midfield was overran totally. That has happened before. It’s not a pretty sight. It must be fixed. Eze and BOZ are pure quality. They can keep any defense in the CC occupied as long as they get the right passes. But if they fall back, when we are under pressure, we have a hard time getting hold of the ball and reestablishing some kind of play. Then it’s just a matter of time before the other guys score. Today was a lucky exception. And don’t tell me it’s because Leeds is such a good team. That’s the wrong attitude. It’s because the players fall out of their position and start ball watching rather than marking and cutting of the opposition, and we lose shape. Work on it. [Post edited 18 Jan 2020 21:32]

A really good win today with some outstanding performances. Masterton, Hall, BOS Kelly or Eze each one a good call for MOM. You come on here criticising players after a terrific team effort, you sound like a complete plonker. Now where is that ignore button.

We always have to think about how to get better. Eze, BOZ, Masterson, Chair - all great today. Leeds had to use three players to keep tabs on him.

Great day out on 01:51 - Jan 19 with 3306 views | plasmahoop | The golfer Gary player said, the more I practice the luckier I get. Why I'm so happy about today is, we have made great strides, and are a good technical team. But there hasn't been enough stout defence, or matching teams physically. But we did today. And we were lucky, but deserved it. I know we best Leeds one nil last season, but last year grinding it out was all we had left in the tank. This year we've played some great football, and if we can hold it together have a decent rest of the season. I really feared we would lose badly today due to our naivety and soft underbelly. But we've moved to a new level I think. But let's not panic at the next loss

Agree pretty much with this peppy summation. Does anyone believe MW's story about Lummers ricking his neck in training, by the way? Me neither. Just as well - he (Lumley, not Warburton) needs a prolonged spell on the sidelines, preferably with a specialist goalkeeping coach. Kelly should stay between the posts for the rest of the season, whose penalty save really topped off a good to very good game. From what I saw on Sky/my faulty stream, we have a front line/attacking midfield in Chair, Eze and Bright who can terrify any defence in this league if we can somehow keep them together for a better tilt at the footballing heavens next season. The midfield 'engine room' is the footballing equivalent of a Vauxhall Chevette at best, however. We badly need at least two more players there, another playmaker (especially if Eze goes) and an anchor. Cameron is too old, Amos is still learning, and Scowen is mostly out in the cold and lacks quality. In (non-)defence of our defence, Wallace is fair to poor, and I don't think is, or will be, the answer, as he's already in his early 30s and is unlikely to improve. Hall doesn't convince me on any level. Leistner can do a job in certain games, such as Millwall, but has his limits. But Masterson, bar nearly letting that preening, cheating ponce Banford through for a preposterous schoolboy goal where the ball went from one end to the other, is already seriously stirring my faith - one charge from the back was Macca-esque. For me, we should be bulding our defence round this fellah next season. So, a lot of work to do, but yesterday (the depressing gaps in the 'Family Stand' notwithstanding), we played some football, dug in, and got some of the luck we've been lacking for a very satisfying, if probably somewhat fortunate win. As MW said, it's heartening.
