Parliament to be suspended in September on 15:24 - Aug 28 with 6385 views | Wingstandwood | Indeed! It took me by surprise, found out via this site by means of Jango's post. Here is another update via Robert Peston giving some extra breaking news and relevant information. Robert Peston †Verified account @Peston 20m20 minutes ago More The privy council held by the Queen at Balmoral has approved an order to prorogue or suspend parliament on a date between 9 and 12 September till 14 October. It is not clear what MPs can do to stop this, even if Speaker Bercow is on their side (which he is).

Would indeed have been nice if politicians both EU and domestic had just got together like grown up's and listened to and addressed the fears and concerns of people who voted for Brexit in the first place. A case of compromise, third way solutions i.e. tweaking, reforming and appraising stuff. Even the Tories backtracked and changed policy on the poll tax! People never mentioned Europe within construction site portacabins and demountables 30 years ago, so something has obviously gone extremely wrong to motivate people to vote that way. People have been ignored and branded far right, racist, fascist and thick. So this is where we now find ourselves.

I completely disagree with it too but the reaction has been hilarious amongst the likes of Owen Jones and the rest of the impotent rage brigade.

The right wing gutter press has a lot to answer for, spinning lies and whipping up hate. [Post edited 28 Aug 2019 16:43]

The problem is the EU made concessions before the referendum itself, particularly on immigration. We have the rebate of course. IMO the vote wasn't just about Europe anyway. The system, as it is, doesn't work for large swathes of our society, and they were presented with an opportunity, or so it was spun, to help fix that. The fact it won't, and the reality will most likely make things majorly worse for them (if that is possible in some cases), is neither here nor there, but incredibly sad. This has been 30 years in the making though. The positive case for EU membership has rarely been made, both sides of the house have used it as a whipping boy when it suited them, and frankly the EU parliament hasn't helped itself either in making its own case. They were all asleep at the wheel, and those who will profit from all this swooped in.

What's so funny mocking someone who is concerned about the country going down the plughole?

Squealer couldn't give a flying fart as long as he profits by writing cloyingly annoying "articles" in his highly paid gig for a "paper" that resorts to begging for donations on it's website.

Davidson is a big loss imo but it was fairly inevitable under BoJo. The vaunted "no confidence" vote, whenever Corbyn decides to get round to it, possibly 1st November, will just lead to a GE with Corbyn being smashed.

Hmmm, yeah, ok. That won't actually be legal you know. I mean, ok, they'll have no currency, no economy, no funding from UK but I'm sure SNP will manage somehow. I'd not trust the Senedd to run a bath let alone a nation.
Parliament to be suspended in September on 17:58 - Aug 28 with 5937 views | Jonathans_coat | So let me get this strait. To uphold and save UK democracy, our unelected prime minister will suspend parliament to prevent our elected representatives from voting to stop him forcing through an outcome nobody voted for. (Nobody voted for no deal, it wasn’t on the ballot) We have gone way beyond satire, and entered the twilight zone.

It's suspended every year for party conferences. Add in this current session has been going since 2017... Dominic Grieve, on radio 5, whined it was a "constitutional outrage" whilst also admitting there was time to vote to block no deal via legislation. Much ado about nothing.
