Match thread: Leicester u21s Checkatrade on 21:46 - Nov 7 by Nigeriamark | 2-2 and now a penalty shoot out. Fair result over 90 minutes with the second goal showing why McNulty & MJ are not our starting CH partnership although Norman could have done better too. Clough had a 1 on 1 in the last minute but the keeper saved it with his face !! Lot of talented youngsters on both sides but theirs shaded the second half |
Lost 4-3 on pens. Point for the draw in 90 minutes guarantees us topping the group and a home draw in the KO stage. Goood run out and gives some of the young lads a run with the first team. Don’t think KH will be too unhappy

Match thread: Leicester u21s Checkatrade on 22:18 - Nov 7 with 3807 views | Shun | That was my first experience of this competition and I found it a thoroughly pleasant evening. We played some lovely football at times and it’s clear the kids are coached with the same ethos as the seniors. The first half hour we were excellent, but after that Leicester were the better side. Perkins and Wilbraham were terrible (although it was nice to see how much encouragement and coaching the former was giving to the kids). Andrew played really well until he went off. Clough tried hard but his confidence looks shot after that one-on-one miss. I thought Norman should’ve done better with both goals and his distribution left a lot to be desired, but he did make two penalty saves in the shootout. As for the kids, this was my first time seeing Matheson and I think he’s going to be an absolute star, I was really, really impressed with him. And for such a tiny human being he’s absolutely fearless too. Adshead was a calming presence in midfield but didn’t do enough to suggest he’s ready for regular first team football just yet, although I’m sure he will be at some point. Hoti has a really nice touch but was generally poor. Yonsian and Hamzat tried a lot and both looked to have something about them but didn’t do enough.

This pretty much sums it up for me too. On balance, Leicester shaded it in my view and Perks rash challenge was a pen but we rode our luck. I really don't see Alby getting better at all. I don't like criticising players for the sake of it, but he just doesn't do it for me at all. Yonsi was a bit anonymous first half but better second, as he grew into the game, as did Hoti and Hazmat (sic) before being subbed. Matheson, by contrast, was better first half for me, but agree - I can see why Hilly sings his praises. Lively, skilful, fast, level headed with no panic and a decent crosser to boot. Couple of counterpoints from my view - Cloughy put some cracking tackles in. He did look tentative at times too though. And Norman had a couple of sweet throws out to Zac, the latter leading to his one on one with the keeper. All in all a good outing, but I'm sure Hilly will be a bit disappointed with the way we faded and were so wasteful in possession second half. Oh and Finnerty exists. He isn't a hologram.

Match thread: Leicester u21s Checkatrade on 23:05 - Nov 7 with 3608 views | DaleFan7 | We had a decent first half and were value for our lead but I thought we were pretty poor in the second half. Second to everything and didn't have much of the play. I thought the senior players let the younger ones down in the second half as their performances were all substandard. Of the youngsters, Matheson had a good game and Adshead was solid though not sure MoM. Was most impressed with Yonsian he put himself about well. Hoti was alright. I thought Hamzat tried hard but not a lot came off for him tonight. Through as group winners and a home tie guaranteed. Will take that.

We were the best team for the first 1/3 of the game, the second best for the rest. KH summed it up perfectly here. We were lucky to hold on for a draw in the end.

Gillam was injured a couple of weeks back, cannon as mentioned is injured too. Can only assume Morley has a knock

Match thread: Leicester u21s Checkatrade on 07:49 - Nov 8 with 3201 views | EllDale | Marvellous. I was late out of work and delayed on the motorway so arrived after 20 minutes! I've still got some random thoughts. I'm immensely proud of our club and the youth structures that we have in place despite the way that the game turned once Leicester had found their feet. Is Adshead our youngest ever captain? If I'm ever in front of a firing squad I want Loft to be holding the gun! It did occur to me that there may be one good aspect about these under 21s teams being allowed in the competition in that we may be able to spot potential loanees? I expected Morley to be playing; if he's not injured might it be the case that he's being given a game on Saturday?

I wonder if not being a big time charlie wannabe, will make it more likely a Championship/Prem team will put a bid in for him

Looking at the table, yes, it's simple. A Bury win or a draw means Bury go through A Fleetwood win by one goal sees Leicester go through. A Fleetwood win by two goals sees Fleetwood go through.

They don't have to wait till tomorrow! Newcastle U21's with a late winner at Grimsby. The Academy sides seem to have done better this season with 7 through to the 2nd round. Newcastle,Chelsea and Swansea even topping their groups. [Post edited 13 Nov 2018 21:54]
