According to Rochdale On Line Marks & Sparks will now be moving into their new premises when it finally gets built. That's great news, maybe one or two other companies will be looking to move in. It's be interesting to see what happens to their old building.

On the local BBC news this morning as part of an £8m project. Looks very positive.

Whoever takes over the old building will first have to eliminate the odour of stale pee

Only use the food section occasionally these days, but you can't avoid the clothes aisles to get there

It's great that we're getting a new cinema and the like but the so called "high street" is already a ghost town and reputable companies choosing to move to these retail park environments has always been to of the detriment to the town centre. On the plus side, the old M&S building could moonlight as a methadone centre or STD clinic within the next decade or so

I haven't noticed the smell you mention but my sense of smell seems have deserted me in the last few years. Eyesight good, hearing brilliant, sense of smell very poor.

I don't have a problem avoiding their men's clothes at all. It's strictly for the wives who buy all their husbands clothes for them.

TK Maxx is my shop of choice these days for my clothes.

I think a lot of the time, in general, one of the reasons that out of town facilities thrive is because of parking problems/cost in town centres. Not been into Rochdale for yonks so can't comment, but Stocky, near where I live, charges through the nose. Amazingly, charges are lifted for periods around Christmas. I'd rather get the train into Manchester on the rare occasions I feel the need to shop.

The current M&S building is owned by the Council, so there are many different possibilities and not necessarily retail use.

Or it might end up being something positive for the town.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Free all day on Sundays, so you don’t need a ticket. That’s why cappuccino times are on the sabbath.

To make it popular, the offer needs to be attractive in the first place
