Who would it be?

I've enjoyed watching the olympics and got into a debate with a friend as to who it would be.

I'm assuming it would be an Olympian as I can't think of a sportsperson outside of olympic sports who would be worthy of the accolade?

The criteria? Longevity, dominance of their particular sport, that sport being a global sport and ultimately being a winner.

I would have said Andy Murray, however, it could be argued that he hasn't dominated his sport although he has done amazingly well and would certainly be up there.

Its all pretty subjective, Gareth Edwards, George Best, Daley Thompson, Stephen Hendry, Mo Farah (if you accept he's a Brit), Stirling Moss just to throw a few names out there at 4:45 AM.

Is the right answer.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Phil Taylor.

Definitely not Andy Murray, he's not even our greatest Tennis player and he's not even close to dominating the sport when everyone is fit.

Other nominations A P McCoy and Seb Coe (if you consider his overall contribution)

IVA Richards. Lifted a Glamorgan cricket side to one day success in 1993 in his heyday.
The man had TEARS in his eyes....and afterall he'd achieved!!!

A lot of that Glamorgan team improved so much so they got England caps (Watkin, Croft, Maynard, James)

Going with a cycling theme -

Brad Wiggins - multiple Olympic medals in multiple disciplines( road & track), also dominated in time trials with world championships and a Tour De France among his C.V.

Chris Froome - multiple tour de france wins and multiple Olympic medals, not as versatile as Wiggigs but will continue dominate many a road race for years to come.

Outside of Olympics Mark Cavendish is widely regarding as the most successful and greatest road sprinter of all time and has dominated for long periods. Shame hes a bit of a knob.

Jason Kenny - King of the track in multiple disciplines and Chris Hoy greatest track sprinter.

In Steve Redgrave's favour, most of his Gold medals came before lottery funding too.
