Why would they be next seasons Wigan? They'll have nothing like the money Wigan have had with their £15million parachute payment.

No guarantees but my post said that Bolton aim to be doing what Wigan nearly have and get back up at the first opportunity. They're already clearing the decks for next season.

Next season's L1 will have in it another strong North West representation with Bolton (on paper) being the biggest North West club in terms of facilities and potential.

The thing that will appeal as much as the location will be the ability to have full control (as Big Sam did) over a whole club like Hill does here, but with a budget and scale multiple times ours.

According to local press, it seems that the only current player at Bolton to be playing there next season will be Zak Clough.

The rest will be released or sent packing with a pay off.

That gives the incoming manager a clean sheet to operate with and all summer to get the players he wants on whatever budget he has.

As things stand, I expect Bolton to struggle in League One. If Hill gets the job, they will be promoted back to the Championship.

Saddo that I am , I've been reading the wanderers forum for the last couple of weeks and it's believed through different sources that the manager will have a budget of about 5-6 Million to spend next season. Probably not the biggest in our league but still a healthy one.

I would take comfort in this. If there was any real rumours or whispers then he'd be in the betting or some money would've been laid somewhere, bookies ain't stupid. Very rare that someone comes from completely leftfield and catches them out.

Phil Brown now at 6/4

Chris Wilder 2/1 - no sign of 'you know who' anywhere in the list.

At the moment.

Phil Brown would be the ideal match. I could pick him up from Sothend and drive him up to Bolton if that would help

Interesting that Tango is still favourite despite 'ruling himself' out of contention, hmmmm...Doesn't seem that people are buying it. He'd certainly be the safe choice as he has a more media friendly persona than Hilly and they seem to love him as much as he loves himself. Despite being a bit of a tit the guy is not a bad manager either.

Despite not wishing to profit from a sorry situation it might be worth seeing what odds you can get on Keith......Silver linings and all that

Brown was on the Championship / Goalrush programmes the other week and they asked him about the Bolton job - he certainly didn't rule himself out - he said he was flattered to be linked but hadn't had any contact at that point - I would be amazed if he wasn't on their shortlist - he definitely sounded interested.

The original story doesn't make sense. Why would they reunite when they both have managers jobs. Who'd be number 1? Co-manager has disaster written all over it, especially to fans who see themselves as a Premier League club. I suspect both applied and some clickbait website has thrown something together.

I dont think its a reputable site for genuine news - someone has just put 2 and 2 together going off the Bolton chairman's interview the other week and got 6. Why would they pay out 2 lots of compo and 2 wages? Hill on his own maybe but not Hillcroft. And like you say neither of them would want a joint manager role. They are their own men now - as proved when Barnsley sacked Hill and kept Flicker.

The thing that surprises me is that it's taken so long for a higher level club to take note of the miracles Hill has performed at Rochdale. Especially in the field of player development. Before Hill came along I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of players that came through the ranks and went on to bigger and better things.

Brown has moved to 5/6 in the last 15 minutes. He's even money with Betfair.

Wilder 2nd favourite at 3/1 but 2/5 with Betfair.

Even Paul Tisdale gets in at 66/1

The thing is Hill is unlikely to replicate what he has at Dale at a higher level club. I would say Arsene Wenger is the only other manager who gets as much say in all matters at a club - it has been said that he has more or less full control at Arsenal they trust him so much. Similar to Hill at Dale - he runs the show top to bottom. There's no way he'd get that at Bolton - he would be answering to a whole number of people in charge. He said at Barnsley how much the politics got in the way of him doing his job.

Even if the Club make a statement to that effect you know yourself it means absolutely nothing, the person who makes the decision will be the manager not the Chairman or Director, they can't force him to stay and what would be the point of that?

I've long thought that Hill would always be suited to managing Bolton and everytime he drives past the ground or visits the retail park ( which he probably does) he will look at the Stadium with envy. The circumstances aren't brilliant at Bolton, but isn't that always the case when managers walk into a new job? The hassle will be offset with the salary he would be paid and if it all goes pear shaped people will always cite the internal turmoil at the Club as being the reason,so his reputation wouldn't be tarnished that much.

There's no doubt he could do a great job at Bolton but I think he's going to have to change his style, one things for certain he won't be given a free role and he will be under far more scrutiny from the fans than he was at Spotland. He struggles with that , ask any Barnsley fan.

Who would we look at replacing him with? Chris Beech seems the obvious answer but there's something that worries me about that appointment. I listened to his pre- match Blackpool interview on Dale Player last week and it nearly sent me to sleep. Beechy himself looked half asleep and I wonder if he is actually a leader of men and a motivator. Does he have the dynamic or a big enough personality to attract new players to the Club or is he better coaching the younger players or acting as an assistant? He's responsible for bringing through some really good youth players so he's obviously a talented coach.

Maybe BBM could come into the frame, not sure if he is ready but I have heard some good things about him. Maybe Hill would look at taking them both to Bolton with him if that is in fact what happens. The speculation can all be put to bed today by the manager coming out and stating he is staying at Rochdale but I don't see any chance whatsoever of that happening unfortunately.

I don't automatically think the Club are destined to go into free fall neither if Hill moves on. The next appointment could prove to be a big success, it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom.

Please no not Bucket B'stard Murphy.... Beech proved he cant do the job last time but he did recruit a few decent players in the right areas, I agreed hes one Mogadon Man . Doubt he could motivate.
As for Hill going to Bolton I think a big mistake, no money and the fans want instant returns. He wouldnt be able to take the flak if it goes awry. There would be more than a few in the mainstand having a go at you Keith . Stay where you are comfy, keep your 10%'s

If not this season possibly next, Keith as a better chance of getting into the Championship with a team he knows sooner than a bunch of unknowns.

I stopped reading after you referred to one of our coaching staff as a “bucket b*****d”. Brian Barry-Murphy has now been at Dale as long as he was at Bury.

On the short list of names, the Bolton Chairman stated last week that one of them could even walk to work ( lived in the vicinity) and two of the three were already in managerial positions.

It's a long walk from Hill's house to the "Macron" or whatever it's called this week.

I seem to remember that when the Chairman of BWFC made that comment, the fans over there took that to mean that he was referring to Kevin Davies.

I genuinely wouldn't have thought that KH was (a) interested in the vacancy or (b) being considered for the job, until that news report appeared last night.

As fitzochris wisely says, 'beware the report without any quotes'. Looks like it might just be a 'concocted' theory with no substance. Here's hoping......

It sounds less and less like a board that'd let the manager manage the entire club.
