Or removed it altogether. The release clause that Huw Cooze denied even existed that is.

I'll go for there is a smaller release clause ,or indeed none at all.

Brilliant news anyway now need him firing on all cylinders.

Bony Signs Extension on 19:02 - Nov 19 with 4429 views | JethroJack | No doubt Wilf is now our top earner. So, why do some people say they hope there is no release clause or a lower value one? Surely, the club would want a higher release clause introduced for 2 reasons.... 1. As a deterrent to clubs who think they can tempt Wilf away "on the cheap". 2. So that Wilf realises he has to up his game even more (to justify the release clause) if he wants his dream move to a "Champions League" club. Otherwise, why would the club want to re-negotiate & extend Wilf's deal by offering him more money, without introducing more protection for the club against him leaving or more compensation if he decides to leave anyway?

I agree, I think this extension has probably introduced a release clause at a figure that both sides negotiated, there may not even be a pay rise involved and the fact that it's a one year extension seems a bit token. Wilf ('s agent) gets his release figure, we get the best deal we can when someone comes sniffing around. All's fair IMO? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wilf's unlikely to have agreed to tie himself down for longer for the same kind of cash. Be surprised if it's not level pegging between him and Gylfi for best paid player. Chances are he's had a payrise and the club have renegotiated any clause to provide additional protection for them in return.

It would be waited in our favour as a 'thank you' for a huge wage hike so definitely not smaller. Like WOB says, my guess would be release clause completely removed. *edit to add: people do realise that a release clause in a contract for a player of the calibre of Wilf protects the players interest, not the club's? A release clause for an ordinary player would put off buyers but in the case of Wilf it is a trigger to walk away. Having no release clause in return for better wages puts us in a much stronger negotiating position when others sniff around. [Post edited 19 Nov 2014 20:32]

Bony Signs Extension on 19:50 - Nov 20 with 3452 views | longlostjack | Release clauses or not - if a player wants to leave and a bigger club comes calling it's all pretty much irrelevant. Unless a club is prepared to let a player sit it out in the stands for outstanding term of the contract. Yet to see that happen though.

Great news - but weird that we can devote pages and pages to subjects like Wigwam and Dave Whelan and only must 15 replies to this thread ...
