It's the one I made towards the end of the game. Similar to Joe also in that he may not have quite enough in his locker for a top team, but fits very well into our midfield. He probably won't do anything spectacular, but probably won't make any big mistakes. The anti-Shelvey if you like.

I agree. It was almost as if we had re signed Joe. Impressive debut.

Very good player, always seemed to find time on the ball, quite a few good performances out there tonight Bartley, Jazz, Tiendalli, Gomis and Fernandez looks like he's gonna be different class, thought Shelvey coming on and slotting into the DM role looked interesting to. Keeps things ticking over. Not afraid to get stuck in. I liked him based on that performance. Worth a second half sub on Sat if things are going our way to see how he gets on.

Carroll on 22:43 - Aug 26 with 7267 views | LeonisGod | Agreed. Busy, always wanted the ball, breaking up play, composed, good vision and quality on the ball. What's not to like? Will be interesting to see if he can replicate that in the prem. if so, he'll be a welcome addition. JJS was a cut above tonight when he came on. Federico quality too and Montero taking the p1ss out of 2 separate full backs. All in all a good night, which could easily have been a banana skin of a tie.
Carroll on 22:46 - Aug 26 with 7213 views | JackTheLad | One wonders how much it would take to prize him from Spurs... As far as I can make out from a quick google search his contract is up in 2016 - A cheeky £2m bid and see what they say perhaps, its not like he is going to break into their x11 anytime soon

Carroll on 22:50 - Aug 26 with 7162 views | Joe_bradshaw | Very good little technical footballer. Excellent game and he suits our style to a tee. Good work by our scouting system. Wanted to dictate our play until JJS and Soggy Stardust came on which was good to see. Tired a little towards the end which was understandable.

The thing I liked about him is that when he gave the ball away about 10 mins from the end (I thing Bartley got him out of jail) he didn't go hiding. That's when he started to look tired, but he picked himself up and 30 secs later was spraying the ball around like nothing had happened. IF he can do this in the prem where there is less time on the ball then he'll be in or around the first team in no time.
Carroll on 00:04 - Aug 27 with 6811 views | JackFish | I agree, thought he did well. Also like that towards the end when an attack broke down with five of our players forward he sprinted back into position and took a booking to allow us time to get everyone back.

Carroll on 11:15 - Aug 27 with 6116 views | Senhin | I don't really think he's going to be in our starting line up so much this year, so unless we have an agreed fee to buy as part of the loan I still don't really see why we got him on loan. If we do have an agreed fee though I definitely see the point.
| Did you see that ludicrous display last night? |

Carroll on 11:49 - Aug 27 with 6064 views | giantstoneater | Apart from his obvious skills on the ball I was impressed with his ability to pickpocket the opposition midfield and then getting us on the front foot. Very good all round effort from the squad my only gripes (sorry a touch of DYSS-ITUS) that we did not kill them off and that the ref did not book the player for the worst challenge of the night on Dyer.

If Brendan shared your attitude, we would never have had Borini, Gylfi or Caulker on loan. Meaning we probably either wouldn't have got promoted in the first place or got relegated in our first season.

Could see Caroll playing Leon's role whilst he's still injured with Ki playing next to him in cm. So far from these past performances Shelvey hasn't looked that good so maybe those 2 playing together would make sense. Btw didn't mean to quote above, thought I just hit the comment button. JJS was poor on Saturday but he sparked things up a bit last night. A good shot early in the 2nd half & that first time cross he put in for Wilf at the end of the game was quality. As much as I like Carroll I still think it has to be JJS & Ki starting as they will offer more of a physical presence. Although ideally I would like to see a specialist DM with one of Ki / JJS.

Can't see a DM coming in now to be honest, in fact lm notsure we'll see anyone else either, Club keep their cards close to their chest so who knows, nobody saw Tom Carroll coming through the door. [Post edited 27 Aug 2014 14:18]

I think we need 1 cm to make the simple passes and move it around the midfield (like Britton does) and then the other cm play more direct and risky passes. And yesterday Caroll played the nice simple passes. Shelvey did do those things but he gave the ball away quite often which led to attacks from Rotherham. If we play both Ki and Shelvey we would give the ball away too often because they both do those types of passes and so far Ki has looked better. But if you think about it we are fine with Britton in cm even though he doesn't have much physical presence so it would be similar with Caroll playing. Wonder if we will bring a DM in soon. Is stamboulli(or whatever) a DM type player?
