Player ratings tonight! on 07:48 - Jan 29 by Shaky | I think you can make an argument that it would be a good idea to bring in a defensive coach; that certainly isn't Laudrup's strong suit based on his CV. However, the main problem is clearly a lack of leadership on the pitch. There has to be somebody in the thick of things guiding overall defensive positioning for it to be effective. Who is that individual? I have asked the question before, and am astounded that nobody seems to know the answer! I would have thought Ash would be the natural, but if that is the case he is failing badly. As for his standalone performance yesterday, I think a '6' is generous. |
C'mon while Ash was, again, off his game our back 5 were a pretty good unit with Chico being outstanding. Fulham had three very tall players who were contained and while Tremmel had a few saves to make they were all comfortable. I thought we played it just right - slow patient passing tiring Fulham physically and mentally.

It is true that Fulham had some tall players, but on at least 3 or 4 occasions I counted two of them totally unmarked in or just outside the 6 yard box at set pieces. I think it is absolutely fair and right to point to injuries having negatively impacted performances since the autumn, but for me a constant has been poor defensive displays with largely the same personnel. And I am sorry to say that quite aside from the leadership issues, I feel Ash is looking increasingly vulnerable when the opposition is pressing. With hindsight maybe we should have taken the money last summer. . .
