Adam Armstrong Has Said His Goodbyes Ahead Of Southampton Medical
Monday, 9th Aug 2021 15:26

Tony Mowbray the Blackburn Rovers manager has confirmed to the media in the North West that Adam Armstrong is heading to Southampton as he wished him all success at St Mary's, strangely Saints are still officially yet to announce that Danny Ings has left the club.

Adam Armstrong has been back to the Blackburn Training ground to clear out his locker and say his goodbyes to his soon to be former team mates and the Rovers coaching staff, with terms now seemingly agreed between both clubs and also the player and Saints he is now heading South for a medical at Staplewood on Tuesday

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray had this to say about the departing Armstrong:

"I think everything is agreed, I am not sure there is much to prevent that deal going though," Mowbray told Rovers TV.

"Adam is fit and will be doing his medical. Things moved in different directions over the last few days.

"I think it is only right that the club has a valuation and it needed to be met and Southampton are ultimately the team that came up with the deal that is right for the football club.

"We wish Adam well, he has been in my office this morning, he went round the whole club from the kit men to the cleaners and kitchen staff and said his goodbyes and his thank-yous.

"We should wish him well, he has been brilliant for the football club and the job now is to strengthen the team and make it stronger in other departments and find new heroes.

The last time Saints started a season with two players named Armstrong in the team (1983-84), we finished runners-up. No pressure then lads!

I have no idea why, because I've never even seen him play, but I've got a good feeling about this signing when it's finalised. I'll go so far as to say that the frenzied media and tv pundits will have him signing for a "big club" before January. Now, fingers crossed he proves me right and also that he's willing to keep focused on keeping to his contract for at least a couple of years. The Adams and Armstrong partnership could be memorable for all the right reasons this season.

Good news - and with still four whole days to go before kick-off!!

Are Saints obliged to officially confirm Ings' departure? Not as if we don't all know...

I don't know much about Adam Armstrong, but to get a striker in now is just pivotal. Yes, he is not a taller than Kevin Keegan, but maybe it won't matter ;-) A new "mighty mouse" at Saints?

I hope it works out for him second time around after Newcastle let him go. He knows where the net is and is skillfull but is a small lad. Hopefully he can feed off Che and get us 10-15 goals.
