Ron Vlaar To Join Saints Is Done Deal Saturday, 22nd Aug 2015 11:08 According to the Daily Star former Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar is about to be announced as signing for Southampton Football Club.
Saints were of course linked with Vlaar in the summer of 2014 but could not persuade Aston Villa to do business so turned their attentions elsewhere, they were again linked this summer after the Dutch defender departed Villa Park after his contract ran out, however after having a knee operation that looked set to keep him out to the new year any chance of him joining Saints now looked scuppered at least till January.
But the Daily Star is now saying that is not the case and Vlaar could be joining Saints, the on line edition of the paper is quoting Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli who has tweeted.
"Vlaar to Southampton done deal: 2 years contract. Will be announced Wednesday. #SaintsFC."
The article also claims that Vlaar will be fit again in two months, meaning he could be making his Saints debut by the start of November if that turns out to be true.
Where this sits in Saints pursuit of Virgil Van Dijk is still to be answered.

Another drip on the wages this would be. Doesn't install any confidence in me, i would hope this a nonsense story.

Doesn't sound likely to me. We could have done this deal anytime in the last couple of months, why Wednesday when that's the day Celtic could be knocked out of Europe, freezing Van Dyck up for a move? Caulker, Vlaar, Yoshida and Gardos all much of a muchness I would have thought. Van Dyke a class above.

It's not April 1st is it??? Surely not in place of the fast mobile c/b we all know Fonte has to have alongside him and I can't see him coming here to sit on the bench. OK we don't know absolutely, that Van Dijk would thrive in the Premier, but we DO know that on the basis of the second half of last season, Vlaar was crap! Oh yes, Is the writer of this article the same one who was a couple of days ago ridiculing supporters for panicking over rumours published on the internet!

If this is the "quality" signing that is going to instill confidence and shore up our defence then I despair..

It is not a done deal Nick it is a silly story in the silliest of silly rags, yet only two days ago your were castigating scaremongers for spreading malicious rumours and gossip! Why would we even consider signing a player with a long term injury? We wouldn't and neither would any other right minded club. Nobody came in for jay last year when the rags were ripe with gossip of done deals and all the kind of baloney. Still it livens up a Saturday when there is ought else to do but sunbathe.

Saints rumoured to be buying the entire Bournemouth Team and their manager. The Bournemourth goalkeeper has declined to rejoin Saints. A really progressive move by Les and his team, with only a few days left lets see how this one pans out. Bournemouth on the other hand have not shown any interest in buying Southampton players and stated that they wish to remain in the premiership.

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
