| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 10:44:14
AM made exactly the same mistake at Newcastle on our first outing this season. Did it cost us a point then? AM is an experienced goalie and should and does know better. RM's extreme possession football is suicidal. He is not willing to compromise, that is clear now. Is he now doing this on purpose so he can have his huge payout? Is he now holding SR to ransom? SR deserve this btw, even though the fans are treated like the proverbial by both SR and an extremely arrogant manager. |
| News Comment | Sources Say Southampton Have Made Decision About Russell Martin at 15:36:36
Unfortunately, RM is only part of the problem. SR have not exactly covered themselves in glory during their tumultuous tenure. I have no insight into their thinking but, should we go down as looks more likely by the week, do they really think we can bounce straight back up? Our squad is Championship at best with about 3 or 4 Premiership quality players. I sincerely hope our board can finally muster some common sense and guile and use this international break to try and salvage this season as best as they can and at least give the manager next season something to work with. As for RM, I have stopped listening. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Manchester City The Preview at 11:38:24
The likes of Citeeh, Arse and Liverhampton are way beyond our financial reach and yes, a level playing field can only be achieved when they enter their swamp of greed and avarice, ie a superleague, But, once we have stopped bellyaching about the unfairness of the top echelons of the Premiership teams, the big question for me is....WHY SR seem incapable of running a football club which is at least capable of competing against the lower echelons of the Prem? Why do they keep appointing second rate managers? Why do we shop in the basement bargain shop when it comes to players? Are they not interested in our club having Premiership status? |
| News Comment | Where Will Russell Martin's Thinking Be For Leicester Game at 11:04:33
Leicester, Wolves and Everton are games which he has surely targetted. Man City is a free hit where I suggest keeping the goal difference down is paramount. SR appointed Nathan Jones knowing we were playing 7 or 8 games mainly against teams around us. This turned out to be a huge disaster and consequent relegation. The next 4 games are now the same. I have no insight in SR's thinking but, by leaving RM in charge for these games is more or less an admission they have no clear plan (was there ever one?) and are hoping for the best. All we can hope is that RM has used this international break to adopt a huge dose of pragmatism. His arrogance and pig headedness are grating beyond measure. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Arsenal The Preview at 15:52:40
After sitting through the infamous night against Leicester, I also went to the next away game at Arsenal, where we came away with a draw when we should have won. Different circumstances but same scenario. I just hope RM, for once, looks up the word pragmatism in the dictionary and takes in the information. A bit defeat tomorrow will see the end of RM but, it will also destroy what is left of the squad's morale and the supporters come to think of it. |
| News Comment | Southampton Manager Admits Striker Omission Error At Bournemouth at 09:37:18
After the Arsenal game, the board are going to have to act. If they don't, we are doomed. If the appoint like for like, we are probably doomed. If they appoint a proven Prem manager, we might stand a chance. RM's arrogance got us here. What is more baffling is, why the board have stood by it for so long. After losing the first game to NF, alarm bells should have started ringing. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 11:34:57
If SR go out and gets someone like Eustice, we'll know they are not taking our survival in the Prem seriously. You do wonder whether RM is doing this on purpose so he can walk off with a tidy sum. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Nottingham Forest The Verdict. at 09:41:37
To stay up we have to beat teams like Forest at home. What I find criminal is the lack of urgency, more so when we went behind. RM is now THE problem. One shot on target is simply staggering. We have now lost our two opening games 1 - 0 because on both occasions we persisted in this bonkers strategy of playing out from the back and we made a complete mess of it. The most galling thing is RM lamenting the team's lack of urgency in his post match interview. RM!!!!!!!!!!!!.......you are the bloody manager!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The message is simple.....we are on course to be relegated by Xmas if RM refuses to change tactics. As for so many fans leaving......WHY depress yourself further when you know the manager is stubborn and arrogant? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Stoke City The Verdict at 11:46:04
I have little confidence I RM leading us into the play offs. Against Stoke, we could still be playing now and not have scored. The build up on Saturday was one down from pedestrian. Utter lack of urgency, guile and physicality. Unfortunately, with every season we spend in the Championship, we'll find it harder to return to the Prem. Also, once the parachute payments stop, we'll be just another one of the "biggish" clubs marooned in this division. This season has been a huge opportunity squandered. But....we might just be pleasantly surprised? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict at 12:50:43
Kieffer Moore has scored 6 goals in 10 appearances for Ipswich. He has been a major part in re-igniting Ipswich's season. We should have landed him as he would have done a job for us. RM must be held responsible for failing to get automatic promotion. The squad was there, but....his incessant tinkering and this stubborn playing out from the back has cost us. Will he do the same in the play offs? On another note, Wilcox and Man U. I dare say, failure in the play offs will see numerous players going and maybe the manager as well. Frustrating is not the word as it is all so predictable. Seemingly not to the powers to be at SMS. |
| News Comment | Southampton Need The Rumours To Stop And Serious Offers To Come In at 08:00:09
As you say, many of these so called stars now desperate to get away underperformed. They also showed very little stomach for a scrap. Guts, application and fight are much needed assets in the division we now find ourselves in. The club now find themselves in an ever increasing problem. Holding out for a certain amount of money is one thing but, every club in the Prem knows we need to sell to rebuild, every club also knows that the team, as a collective has no heart. JWP was the captain during the disastrous relegation season.... With the Wednesday game drawing ever closer, vital time is being lost. With games coming thick and fast after the trip to Sheffield, we are in severe danger of losing vital momentum in our quest for promotion. |
| News Comment | Southampton Owners Admit Mistakes Were Made at 08:40:39
We can speculate and pontificate all we like. We'll all know where we are 10 to 12 games into next season. I dare say we'll have to hit the ground running. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Nottingham Forest The Verdict at 13:02:13
You mention a host of things which need to change if we are to mount a credible challenge for promotion next season. I suggest it needs a sea change. Whether the foolish egos on the board are capable of this is very questionable. |
| News Comment | Day One Of Seven Days Of Destiny at 17:20:27
I was given a free ticket for the Bournemouth v West Ham game. Ruben Selles was there as well. He saw what I saw. Bournemouth cannot defend crosses. Three of the four WHU goals came from this inability to defend crosses/corners. Now, I know what I would do on Thursday.....pepper their penalty area with crosses, play Big Paul and get physical. Also, our players must know that anything but a win and we are down.....especially if other results go against us. On Thursday there can be no excuses......especially after our heroics against Arsenal. It is up to Selles and our players now..... |
| News Comment | Southampton V Tottenham Hotspur The Preview at 09:55:34
With only 11 games left we are chalking off the games. Today is a must win game. The Brentford game was a body blow. Defeat today will be more than that, especially if the teams around us pick up points. AND....Selles has got to start his strongest 11. I am still smarting from seeing the line up on Wednesday. WHY do we have highly paid managers making baffling decisions? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Brentford The Verdict at 11:50:13
Selles may well have had an eye on the Spurs game but this game should have been his priority. If we had won this game, the Spurs game would have been an awful lot less pressurised. We played so well at Man U so why, oh why did he bring Diallo and especially Elyounoussi in? Elyounoussi brings very little to the table. I think most of us could see very early on that Selles' formation and tactics were not working and Brentford were raiding at will on the left wing . And AGAIN, we bemoan the fact we conceded a soft goal and we cannot score. Copy and paste every game. A costly defeat....especially if KWP is going to be out for a while. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Manchester United The Verdict at 10:32:24
Anthony Taylor ignored the baying Old Trafford mob to send Casimero off. Yet, he did not dare caution Fernadez for his constant berating of himself. Saints did very, very well to hold their nerve. If anyone ever thinks or thought smaller teams get a fair deal at the big boys, this is the latest example of bias towards the big clubs. On another note, Rasmus Ankersen must be hoping and praying Selles can pull off a minor miracle as it is becoming abundantly clear that, should we go down, Jones' tenure against the teams around us, will have cost us our lucrative status. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Grimsby Town The Verdict at 11:04:33
A lot of chicken's are now coming home to roost...big time. Ralp did wonders in keeping us up with one hand tied around his back but he simply ran out of rabbits to pull out of hat. Don't blame the fans for voicing their frustration at these dreadful runs we have gone on...this one fatal. Don't blame the fans for a transfer policy as misguided as it is arrogant. Don't blame the fans for an inept board. Many of us have seen this car crash coming a long way off and have been vilified for it. Many fans face acost of living crisis but the still turn up to support their team and are let down week in week out. My big fear is now our board trying to guide us out the championship at the first time of asking Judging by the utterly inept and criminal way they got us relegated...we must harbour more than severe doubts. |
