I’ve been a boxing fan all my life and while at times brutal, it’s rescued many working class lads from the streets and is a sport of incredible skill and bravery. It’s a pursuit where there is as much skill in avoiding a punch as being able to throw one, a talent not always appreciated by those who occasionally tune in to the odd fight. Fury is pure theatre, I’ve followed his career right from the off and always thought he had something special. Boxing aside, the way he’s pulled himself round from mental illness makes him a legend and an inspiration. We went nearly 100 years without producing a heavyweight champion and now have two, with a number of top ranked fighters following closely behind.
Tomorrow’s BFC opponents should hopefully offer Bury a glimmer of hope. Funny, I’d have sympathy for any Club in a similar plight except PNE who I’d wish it on in spades. Hate has no logic.
Watched it a few days ago as a bit of background TV but found it surprisingly compulsive. The Beatles were more my parents era but I’ve come to realise their music was like a soundtrack to my formative years. Some great comedy moments, particularly the sarcasm to American journalists. Despite living a crazy 24/7 life for 5 or 6 years, they seemed surprisingly grounded. Worth a watch.
Spell, I must admit I’ve never been a fan of Grayson and wouldn’t be sorry to see him leave. The football is dour and attritional, which seems to be his trademark. I work with a lot of PNE fans who were relieved he got the gig at Blackpool when they thought Neil was going to WBA. In theory we should have a much stronger squad than last year - Anwick, Husband, Mc Donald, Nuttall, Hardie, Kaikai, Edwards are all Grayson signings - the fact a number of them haven’t clicked is a testament to Grayson’s tactics, talent spotting abilities or motivational skills. That said, I’d give him another couple of months to try and turn the corner but if there’s no improvement give a new manager a full close season.
Hi BBRR Everyone was glad to see the end of the Oystons and for us become a real football club once again, but I’m still left with a nagging feeling that Val isn’t quite the Saint we think. He could have donated a small part of his gains to the Club, to charities in Blackpool, a statue - anything. Hope I’m wrong but I guess regardless, if it got rid of the Oystons does it really matter.
Reading between the lines, Larry thinks we’ve been a bit unlucky and things will turn around anytime. Wrong. We’re not creating chances, seem to be devoid of tactics and a game plan, playing out of form players week-in week-out and making negative substitutions. I’ve been to most games this season and we’ve been out played in the majority and but for good defensive performances, could be lower down the table. Certainly lucky in the extreme to get anything from Accy away and Oxford at home.
I was walking the dogs this morning and for some reason my mind wandered to ‘Uncle Val.’ For so long he was the saviour of Blackpool, but was it all an illusion? While his proceedings against Oyston did the job we all craved, when you look at the cold facts, he invested £6m and walked away with 30. Not a bad rate of return in anyone’s eyes. Were all his meetings with certain high profile fans and his professed love of Blackpool just a way of strengthening his legal case? Were we taken for patsies and fell for the dream because we were desperate for change? I can’t help feeling if his bond with the Pool was so strong he would have found a way to buy the club. As it is he’s just a multi millionaire that’s just that bit richer. Have we been mugged off?
