I think perhaps the reason why the quality is so poor may be down to the fact that the top Premier League clubs now hoover up such an enormous quantity of players just to keep in reserve on the bench or play in tin pot European competitions. I think a very good example is Dewsbury-Hall, who was outstanding in Leicester’s promotion season last year but was bought by Chelsea simply to play in the Europa Conference League. In years gone by, players like him and the many like him would have been performing every week in the Championship and lifting the quality of the games.
Makes you wonder what tomorrow’s thread title is going to be; “Owners leave and QPR go into administration” perhaps? Or it could inspire a whole new topic of “thread titles you’d least like to wake up to in the morning.”
Some Chelsea fan on a forum I was reading this morning reckoned they’d only had a “net spend” of around £200 million over the last couple of years. How you figure that out when they must have spent close on a billion pounds on players since the takeover is beyond me completely. Still sounds as bent as during the Abramovich era.
Yep, they bought Grealish, whose influence on most games is very marginal, for £100 million and sold Palmer, who completely dominates games, for £40 million.
Sorry, downvoted by mistake when I meant to do the opposite. I agree with everything you’ve written and would be very disappointed if we lose him when his contract expires.
True to some extent but the last time this happened was for the last home game against Stoke and it b-ggered the Central Line from West Ruislip up enough for us to miss the first half of the game. I think a lot of people stuck on trains behind ours simply gave up and went home.
Already been done. Wasn’t wanting to tread on anyone’s toes but couldn’t see one at all this morning so started one at 9.30. You might not have noticed it because I gave Watford their proper name.
Apologies if this is a spack but I can’t see another one anywhere. In reference to the title I thought that Festy Ebosele looked by far the best of the Irish team that played England recently but I’d never heard of him. On looking him up found that he’s at Watford “on loan from Udinese.” A very hopeful 1-0 to the R’s.
