A London lad, still a teenager and been at Chelsea through his career - an Academy product, no less. He's earned England U-21 caps and is a versatile defender/midfielder, so might fit the bill to challenge Eustace whilst George recovers from injury. He was on loan @ Boro last season & scored the winner against us in January, and was previously loaned to Red Dogs. Thought to be hankering after a proper club.... I only know this from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Chalobah Rootsy chant if he comes could convert "Natty Dreadlocks" tune into "Natty Chalobah"... "He'll tackle you here & he'll tackle you there, Natty Chalobah!....." I'll get me coat. [Post edited 29 Jul 2014 11:11]

Jamie Hanson's an interesting prospect, as he's been playing the holding role in some pre-season games. Lack of experience might count against him, but we thought that initially about Will Hughes, Jeff Hendrick, etc. Anyway, the "DO IT FOR GEORGE" campaign starts now...T-shirts, anyone?! |
| Forum Thread | Some good news anyway.... at 11:28 25 Jul 2014
As we consider George's injury and the need to revive the Spirit of 74/75, when Roy McFarland sat out almost the whole season to return in the title clinching match at Leicester, there's good news here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28482377 Now everyone knows we have a top Academy, something F*rest are years away from, and which will help us get in good youngsters & loanees from all quarters. Well done to Darren & his team! |

Quite so, me Owd. I know we're fully occupied with the Rams, but it'll also be interesting to see how the new regime @ WBA fares.George has got his move and others are already unsettled, before they've kicked a ball in earnest for him. If their late season form carries through they're in for a struggle. We can keep an eye on how Wisdom progresses if he goes to Albion, though I'd have thought that Liverpool's somewhat dodgy defending at times last season should have given Rodgers enough of a nudge to give Andre an opportunity at Anfield. Wonder where Pat Bamford goes from here, too, having notched a goal for the Blues at Wycombe. |

Well, some fans are still unsure whether either Whitbread or O'Brien will fit the bill as adequate backup for Bucko & Keogh. O'Brien has been linked with Sheff Utd and and some fans doubt Keogh's genuine leadership quality because of his overall Wembley performance (not just because his miskick compounded his team-mates' other contributory errors to THAT goal). I've pointed out the Rams' transfer activity to date (just also seen story of Rams linked to a World Cup striker) and so my opinion differs from yours when you demand that they "get their fingers out" or "push on". I'm maybe a little more patient after all these years! If we're aiming higher, don't forget that the current transfer window ends on August 31st and a lot can happen before then. The transfer situation at this time of year is always very fluid and I think we have a better backroom team in place to monitor it and prosper from as yet unknown developments than for a good few years. Hmmm....five players have been signed (admittedly mostly as"squad" additions or youngsters with good potential) and four key players have signed up on longer-term deals. This includes the young winger Santos who was reported to be signing for Prem League Hull here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28087130 All this seems to indicate that Sam & Co are being more proactive than you're willing to acknowledge, Rabb. From the limited/muted official reaction to the various scenarios being reported (elsewhere) about Bryson's "stay or go" saga, it's likely that the club is doing all in its power to achieve the best long-term resolution there. Whether that results in the human dynamo leaving us to assist a big enough offer to secure George Thorne or someone else is for us all to find out in due course. I don't think telling DCFC to "get their finger out" is very helpful here. How many deals do you want and what are they? Yeh, a right back and a central defender will be on the list, but otherwise Lallana's already gone to Liverpool, after all! [Post edited 2 Jul 2014 13:23]

| Forum Thread | Suarez - FIFA shows its teeth at 15:44 26 Jun 2014
Brilliant but barmy cannibal footballer Luis Suarez has finally bitten off more than he can chew with his attempt to devour an opponent in front of the World Cup's global TV audience. Big ban & fine imposed by FIFA. Story here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28023882 It's a sad reflection of the quality of the match officials at the tournament that no action was taken against Suarez during the match. He needs some CBT now, (& dental attention); it seems that Liverpool now need a Champions League striker. If Suarez had committed his latest such offence in Liverpool's colours, would the club have been big enough to cancel his contract? As he might be technically in breach of his club contract anyway, could this happen? [Post edited 26 Jun 2014 15:46]

With July approaching and the Rams' second bid for George Thorne of WBA having been rejected, the "players in/out speculation" is gathering pace. The other side of Derby's squad-building challenge is here: http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-County-reject-Burnley-bid-midfield-star/st Maybe considering Bryson's situation at the time he signed for Derby, the alleged contract clause is not unreasonable. He was a promising young midfielder (albeit without a track record of scoring goals), joining an ordinary Championship club. His agent did his job as the clause (if it exists) was put in to protect both parties' interests (player & club), but it doesn't direct the value of any actual transfer that might take place. He's worth what George Thorne is to West Brom, I reckon - and isn't that how teams like Burnley & Southampton have built promotion-winning teams too? Bryson sacrificed for Thorne? Would we have won the play-off final if he had been picked in the first 11? Is anyone else awake out there to make any comment during this very quiet football summer? |

The splendid "Pride & Passion" football season at Derby's Quad continues in style next week with a talk entitled "My Father, Peter Taylor", by journalist & author Wendy Dickinson. Wendy will base her talk on writings about her late, great Dad, incorporating her superb "Vol. 1" of his biography, "For Pete's Sake". http://www.umederbyquad.co.uk/exhibition/wendy-dickinson-my-father-peter-taylor It's also a chance for us to catch up with Wendy's progress on the second part of her boigraphical work that will cover Mr. Taylor's post-Rams career - which will still be of great interest to well-read Rams fans, I'd think! Yes, it's a rather premature notion! Quite apart from the "emotional recoil" effect on such a poll from Rams fans after the "unjust defeat", the first strong indications for how season 2014/15might turn out will be about 3 months in from the season's kick-off. A lot can happen in six months - in life and not just in football - as we all know! [Post edited 29 May 2014 1:10]

I'm not sure that Derby looked more likely to win when Bryson & Dawkins came on, Rabb, because they all kept on playing in front of a massed defence & didn't have the guile to break it down. Of course, Bryson is more of a goal threat than Will, but Russell was taken off even though he'd showed the courage to take on and run at defenders. The one he finally got past was sent off for his trouble - perhaps one of the most valuable "professional" fouls in football history. But we didn't take that example on through the rest of the game, & Ward was back to his usual wasteful ways. Can anyone tell me why he takes the majority of the free kicks & corners? He didn't take 'em all yesterday, but the production of very little danger from 14 corners tells its own story - that was ultimately a major factor in losing the game & all it would have brought to the club. A 10% success rate from corners through a season is worth many points; I just wonder what Derby's stats are?. |
