Did think of saying not so long ago now we have Tymon and Key maybe we should play them as wingbacks with a back three Al La Russell Martin's style but didn't say it because we have no-one to play alongside Darling and Cabango, I thought Grimes was playing well initially more so on the left but as Cardiff put the pressure on he dropped ever deeper in the middle but not offering himself forward in themiddle so the likes of Key and Ronald had no outlet getting caught on the ball. |

We have to expect them to come at us, have to take advantage of the spaces they leave, Cullen isn't the one to be up top unless he has runners closer to him. [Post edited 18 Jan 13:35]

Back to earlier in the season trying to keep it tight defensively but leaving us little up top, just wonder what would happen if our wingers tucked into the middle a bit making a chance for a counter attacks through the middle because we aren't getting much down the wings and would leave space for Key and Tymon down the wings providing we get the cover right when they do. All for Abdulai being given a chance in the middle of midfield, I was a little surprised to see Pearl-Harris come on for Cullen but seeing as he scored the game before coming off the wing into the middle not that surprised, thought he may have been recalled by Brentford anyway. |

Allen, Naughton, Pedersen and Christie all at the end of their contracts all will need replacing. We will have little cover across the back, at the moment we are struggling with very little cover given that Cabango does pick up injuries and so has Darling if he is here in the near future. The midfield has nobody that Williams trusts to cover in the middle of the park, needing to use Fulton and Allen, even the starting eleven is undecided does he play Cullen alongside Grimes and Franco it doesn't seem to help us defensively in the middle of the park. Presume Yates and Kuharevich will come back to add to the wage bill burden. How many players do we expect in during the xfr window or the next, surely not enough to cover the outgoings and the positions we are unable to cover adequately at the moment. The only solutions which we seem to have is to play youngsters in the position that they are training to do and in which they can. Hopefully Ginnelly, Parker and Cooper coming back will help but the phased introduction of younger players at the end of this season if possible given the league positions as the season progresses seems to be the best way to try and improve the quality in the long term. |

Is it a case of wanting Broome to have more game time and experience before next year where we are going to have to play more youngsters and any new signings while also reducing the wage bill as a lot of the older player are released being passed being useful in their playing capacity. Pretty pointless if Broome doesn't get game time like Josh Thomas for example no help to the club or player unless you call reducing our outgoing by whatever the loan receiving club is paying us or are we that desperate for incoming monies. |

Would be nice to see us play on the front foot with the midfield dominating the midfield, we have seen when play gets scrappy in the fight for an advantage when we have pushed the midfield further forward we have gained the advantage but you have to keep it tight at the back. When we drop deep in the middle with the full backs pushing on we leave ourselves wide open, we have wingers, we have a midfield and we have fullbacks and centre halves, we are away from home let them do the job that their titles indicate what they should be doing. It is nonesense of inviting teams to push up in the middle of the park when we should be holding our ground, so is over committing forward when opposition teams need to attack. | Forum Reply | Swansea City put forward a project plan to play in the Welsh cup (part 2) at 09:12 16 Jan 2025
If Swansea city football team profit more often by their access to the European competition via the Welsh cup and give a cut to the FAW what would happen to the other money left over after the cut is taken out, surely it would be put towards the team giving us an unfair advantage over the other EFL teams who would not have the easier access to the European Cup competitions? If as a club we give all the monies to the FAW then it does not help us at all. Why were we exclude from access from via the Welsh cup previously? |

Was the procurement of Christie that bad a deal given we had got to the stage where we had very little cover across the back line, the xfr window had closed and by the look of it we could not spend much money anyway. So was he the best fit available when looking at the available non contracted players. Against Southampton who else would you pick, is this state of affairs down to William's similarity to Martin's not being prepared to give youth a chance or is it a case that the younger players were used in positions that could do least harm out wide but that may have backfired as we have no-one of youth coming through for next season unless we now start using them now.But they are inexperienced and not up to standard, they will make mistakes and cost us games, will they cost us anymore than trying to play older.players past their best often unable to play a full game. Did Guehi make mistakes yes but matured into the player he is now by Cooper knowing the potential was there. Can we afford not to have some young players from whatever age group under21s or u18s ready to play 20mins here and there to get up to speed for a full game in congested fixture periods in every position in the team because next year we should not be keeping a number of older people under contract as players.and can we afford to fill the number of gaps that will be left. We cannot keep saying after one or two games often off the subs bench that a player is not good enough as we have done with the likes of Obegeta and Congreve for example, Tjoe-A-On has been used very sparingly in friendlies and cup games often looking weak in a poor team line up trying to played a system that doesn't work with certain players in the midfield, in some cases he is better at defending than Tymon is but Tymon holds is own and the positions is his but unless youngsters are given a chance to integrate at a high level they will not gain the experience to play effectively at the level of league the team is playing in. At some point in this season William's is going to have to trust a number of youngsters in positions that are down the spine of the team.He has used them up front, maybe bought in players but elsewhere in the team needs attention to ensure we don't have to rely on players past their best because you know that with them against better teams they will be found out. |

Have we been that stupid with our signings given some of the injury issues or just stupid given how much has been paid out on players who haven't been played even our academy youngsters whose loan contracts seen to be one of our few source of incoming revenue to alow us to buy anyone. |

It has previously been mentioned about Key moving into the midfield as the third midfielder would he be someone who could be the box to box player needed but that would mean a full back would be needed.Short term solution Christie brought in but hasn't been used there except as a sub in that position , Abdulai has been used at fullback I think and did relatively well with Parker in front of him he looked comfortable going forward but didn't get ball out to the winger quick enough but that is down to the coach asking as he has of Key and Naughton instead of letting a quick pass do the work driving forward with the ball ending in a Cul De Sac we have seen similar with Tymon, Cooper and Darling on the left not releasing the ball earlier after going past and initially beating players then at a loss as to what to do and getting caught on the ball. This would mean shoehorning both Key and Abdulai in different positions and like Key, Abdulai looks suspect under the high long ball. Against Southampton Pearl-Harris was used as that third midfielder instead of Abdulai why, unless he was considered a better option than Abdulai in what was deemed Abdulai better position? But that didn't work but why lack of energy off Pearl-Harris maybe but given the poor high press as Grimes didn't back it up sitting so deep because of his fear of the weak defence being overrun, we ended up being played through and overrun in the midfield instead. The same thing has happened before lots of times the most noteable the second half against Cardiff, their midfield dropped deeper to recieve the ball and they kept their wing outlets wide and we didn't mark those wingers properly meaning they did to us exactly what we did to them in the first half. For me if you are going to do the press everyone in the team has to do it, if that means big centrehalves or slow aged ones are going to play high then the likes of the fullbacks must there to cover the middle of defence and the midfield has to be able to be box to box players, the other alternative is not to fully commit to the high press and all defend deep making the midfield hard to play through. At the moment we seem unable to do either properly, players unwilling to do what is asked of them or incapable of trying to do both at the same time meaning the coach is not picking a team to suit what he is asking of them. If you are going to pick Grimes in your midfield set up you have to keep the midfield secure with players who can do the box to box stuff for him as he cannot do it and teams know it and target the midfield as one of our main weaknesses. |

Al ot of the chopping and changing further up the pitch has been due to injuries to Eom and Cooper and while also trying to.intergrate new players into the team, the back four had been settled for quite some time before Canango and Darling's issues, Franco is one player who we have seen a decline when missing and yet he is raw to Championship football but is easier up to the standard needed, Grimes is Captian and seemingly will be first choice for some time and yet he has flaws that many teams have been able to take advantage of. Seen lots of players try the cynical foul bUt don't think many have completed or failed to completed even for the want of trying as Grimes,to make up for others failings or his own? So.we have to look at that third player that we need in midfield to accommodate Grimes, Steve Cooper tried quite a few to go with Grimes and Fulton but ended up with Hourihane. Fast forward passed, Martin and Duff and we had Ollie Cooper passable work rate which helped keep our defensive side tight but lacking in creativity but featured in wins for both William's and Bellamy even scoring but with Cullen up top didn't work maybe now it would with Bianchini or Vipotnik , Cooper injured now Cullen is the new 3rd midfielder, goals for have come but so have goals against, is it Cullen's fault or is it a case he is not defensively astute to make up for deficiencies in the middle. The chopping and changing of our fullback converting to middle of the pitch to try and make up for the deficiencies just leave us exposed down the wingers. So now we have the centre of our defensive issue against Southampton chopped and changed understandable in a way but with the amount problems being created by the opposition seemed far more than was expected but we have seen it before.against Wycombe, Portsmouth and....... The spine of the team is weak even more so missing Cabango and Darling and needs more able players than the likes of Grimes, Fulton, and aged players the likes of Allen, Naughton, Christie, Pedersen need to be replaced next season with more dynamic younger versions who we know won't be as experienced but in the end will offer a lot more than they can but the new players need to be introduced now in positions they can play in while the experienced older players are there to help them but not to stifle them. If the xfer market is unavailable to us because of FFP then youth has to be given it's head in the middle of the park because it is just not good enough. |

Someone didn't follow protocol, two quick throw ins down the line putting pressure on the opposition how dare they. We might have got away with the chances they previously missed before the first goal, goalkeeper makes the wrong decision. Relying on journeys men to stabilise the team last season for the new incoming manager was acceptable , the inability to compete in games, even against a poor Premier league team is not. Getting on top of games or even staying there has been a problem I was glad to see Grimes go off. |

If the press is not on then you don't do it, you get back into shape but we have seen lone strikers trying to close down the opposition's back line, often the first players chasing down it is usually to isolate the player on the ball and bide time to getting back into a good shape but if you don't get the marking of their movement right then the space just opens, Grimes does not want to join the press, is he right at times not to, yes but his descions to mark a space and not a player has to be called into question, they were passing through our forward line because they could their was always someone spare players making themselves available from the midfield. No point in the high press if all your midfield cannot enforce the press, why because Grimce does not commit to it, given he is scared to press up as Southampton are using their pace to take Grimes out of the game that means they have numbers running through the middle finding the spaces between the midfielders leaving the defence struggling once they have got between the lines. |

Perhaps it didn't read properly as I intended so I added the person you were talk about to which I replied referring to. t would be good to have other option(s) with him(Ginnelly), we shall see how he gets on, seem to have a quicker stream of balls to him with Key and Pederson on the left. Funny how out of position Key looked to get the ball forward quicker than he does in what is seen as his natural side of the pitch to play on. It will be nice to see him on the pitch if that is the case. Sorry if it confused missing a "s" on options in the original text would not have helped [Post edited 10 Jan 19:20]
