Squad depth
at 17:32 15 Feb 2025

I might be in the minority but I really fail to see what it is he brings that we don't have elsewhere within the squad bar maybe being lucky,

Can't jump, wins very few headers, can't press as is just too slow, although for me brings Sylla levels of confusion & who knows what he's going to do next from falling over to swazzing a 30 yarder just pass the post,

I get Lloyd is acclimatising to this level as is Celar to the physicality, but I can't think of a single thing Frey brings other than maybe backing into his Centre Half rather than jumping to win the ball,

Hope I'm wrong but he's more Sylla than Hughill for me.

I thought Lloyd was excellent when he came on last night,

Obviously his primary task was to press and stop their defenders stepping up with the ball which he did excellently,

But he also wins headers, lays the ball off well and his 1st touch & control was also excellent last night,

Also showed some real skill to beat a couple of defenders too,

A way to go, but last night showed real potential.

I'm going to out contrary myself,

I don't think Chair has been playing well but he is being far more effective & creating more goal scoring chances than when he does play well,

One to antagonise both sides of the debate,

Ps, that clever run for his 2nd & 60 yard track back to cover Paal showed both sides of his game last night, effective at both ends of the pitch if not so dominant in the middle.

I get your point Northern, and was desperate for 3 points, leaving the ground on a high,

Thought our defensive running & shape was excellent, not sure I've can recall us being so clinical in the final third and quality of Chair, Saito & Yang was so telling,

But like a couple of posters thought in possession we weren't great, just a few real moments of quality from the little fellas made the difference, which is the difference in this division.

Dunne off?
at 14:32 12 Feb 2025

Dunne is worth more to the team and our club that his performances on the park.

Dunne is the type of player or employee who sets the standards and culture for others to see and hopefully follow.

Just one example is getting on the last flight before that storm immediately after his Dad's untimely passing.

Said playing would help take his mind of his loss and went out and played like the leader he is.

For me, altho neither him or Field are Club Captain they are leaders and seems new players gravitate towards them, which is important when building team spirit.

Ireland played O'Mahoney in the Rugby at the weekend not because of his individual ability, they played him, as like Dunne, he sets the standards for others to follow.

Really didn't look it, just shows, I'll semi retract my criticism of that Lino but how he missed Field kick right through that lad was just so inept.

Agree, and obviously not a Coventry fan but that goal just prior disallowed for offside looked very onside from our view.

Officials were poor from 1st to 95th minute.

I highlighted that one to demonstrate just how bad they were, only swinging back in favour of us briefly,

Booking Paal early & then ignoring 3 or 4 similar but worse challenges from their players was ridiculous.

Gazza, it was losing the header that resulted in the corner,

Officials were beyond dreadful, 10 minutes from time Field goes straight through the back of their winger right in front of Ref, Linesman and us,

Poor lad writhing in genuine agony, as strong a dark yellow as you'll see and nothing given, comedy stuff.

I've been honest and said from Day 1 I've never warmed to him passing up responsibility with the ball when he plays a semi hospital ball to a fellow defender in a worse position than him when he should be braver and take the ball on himself.

Did it twice last night, first time to Dunne, 2nd time I can't recall who too and then started gesticulating & digging them out when it should have been the other way round.

Decent Championship Centre Half but for me had to win that header and it's worth a mention as it was a gutter after a semi decent away performance.

I have posted when he plays well,

I just prefer dominant defenders like Dunne who win those headers and the likes of Edwards, Morrison & JCS who takes risks to step up with ball,

Good Championship defender but like Chair clearly not fully match fit and back to his best yet.

Yes, as soon as we conceded resultant left sided inswinging corner it was looking through your fingers time, they were top draw all night, we had Paal & Chair by comparison.

We lost to a bit of a gutter last night,

Those corners from the left were almost like watching free kicks from the edge of the box,

Very poor defending to concede it, should we pretend it didn't happen and not mention it?

Frey

Frey reminds me a bit of a WWE wrestle, all pumped up muscles & tight shirt but no real strength.

Reading some of the above reminds me of Jordan Hughill but not Frey.

He has to start trying to actually win headers & knock ons and not just back into his man.

We shouldn't have conceded that corner, things happen from set pieces fair enough but dominant Centre Halves win that header in open play.

If he held his hands up and admitted that in the interview that's very honest of him.

It was the header in open play that led to the corner, had to do better.

Should take responsibility, doesn't win a header against Asante a dominant Centre Half should easily win, resultant inspiring corner from the left were superb all night, small margins and that was a must win header.

I thing the best indicator of a player is the number and value of transfer bids for that player by the maybe 100+ clubs in that market.

End product wise his numbers were very poor last year and only picked up when Willock returned to the side.

I"m hoping recent marked increase in early crossing with his right and left is down to Cifuentes's coaching and finally getting him to realise his potential.

Moment of the Match - Sam Field on 90 Minutes
at 13:05 7 Jan 2025

Lots of highlights last night but Sam Field's covering tackle on Chong in the box on the 90th minutes is worth a re-watch,

Thought Morgan was MOTM in the 1st Half when we had possession but out of possession the 2nd Half Field was superb and deserving of a joint MOTM,

Sees Chong is 1 on 1 with Dunne, knows he's quicker than Dunne, looks around and scans the pitch, sees no-one breaking in his space and opts to sprint across the pitch to cover Dunne and put in a possible goal-saving tackle,

Superb awareness, desire & energy, best buy in a very long time.
