Does that bank of mum and dad get the triple lock pension š |

Theyāre both too low. But that working person may well have a mortgage/rent to pay and dependants to provide for. |

I donāt mean to come across in that way. Itās more looking at how we level things up when weāre in such a hole. Things have changed in that I get that the frustration of those whoāve done everything right and feel theyāre not getting the benefit. Iāve still got a few years till retirement and I canāt see the state being able to look after me. Iām concentrating on sorting myself out. Its not just a financial things that have changed for younger people, itās housing, the family unit, communities, final salary pensions, jobs for life, student loans etc. Iām not ageist, Iāll just always push back against the idea that young people have never had it so good. I wouldnāt want to be aged 20 now for anything. |

I disagree. Itās children who are the worst off IMO. |

That would indeed be interesting. Living away Iāve not really got a strong opinion on devolution so I keep a keen eye if that did happen. |

I get the protest vote but when weāre thinking about actually handing them some power, what do people think theyāll do with it? |

Absolutely agree that the state pension is far too low and itās incredibly a sad that so many are on a breadline and they should be helped. However, as an age group overall they hold a lot of the countryās wealth. As you say, who is going to pay? Universal payments mean that as well as protecting the needy weāre giving money to the wealthy. |

Iām curious as to which of Reformās policies ( apart from reducing immigration) are proving tempting to voters? |

The issue is if public sector pay continues to lag behind the private sector, as it has for pretty much the last 15 years, we wonāt be able to fill posts. Almost all public sector jobs are PAYE so a solid tax raiser. That money is use to pay pensions. Itās a real worry. |

Iām not sure what weāre disagreeing about? Iāve said vacancies are a massive problem and that targeted are missed. The figures I quoted are similar to the ones in the article you shared. I think thereās a mix up somewhereā¦. |

5 - 10 years ago Iād have agreed with you but there have been fast improvements since then. The sector was pretty slow to accept research based practice but that has changed quite dramatically and it the older teachers who are running to keep up atm. As I said thatās a pretty recent thing. Edit: I donāt the the education part is broken, itās picking up the bits that once were health and social services that has really made things difficult. [Post edited 12 Dec 19:28]

Thereās around 4000 vacancies in England at this time. Recruitment targets are consistently missed and the population is growing. That not taking into account non specialists. Round my way, there are large numbers of northern Irish, Canadians and south Asians coming in. |

Just got in from work after dealing with the most horrendous child protection issue, coordinating childrenās services and the police. Childrenās services shut shop at 5pm and directed me to the emergency worker who is one person on a phone. It took the police 7 hours to attend. Not their fault, theyāre flat out. This work wonāt appear in any league table, performance measure or inspection report. This kind of thing happens regularly. Canāt imagine why people arenāt coming into the profession. |

Trouble is that in some areas of public service, the pay is not enough to recruit and retrain staff. What happen then? Either the service gets poorer or immigrants come in and take up the slack. |

Just done a quick Rightmove search for Swansea. 751 houses for sale, 34 of them for 100k or less. Thatās not taking into account the condition of those 34. |

Iām being devils advocate here but why canāt that argument be applied to pensioners without private pension? Young people are told to pull their socks up, work harder, cancel Netflix, stop buying coffee and sort out their future. Iām not being anti pensioner. Iām being pro young people. |

TBF I didnāt realise those had come back. Thatās good news. |

I agree with you about wanting too much too soon, but Iām willing to bet the wage to house price ratio was way lower when you got on the ladder. Iād did the same as you, bought a flat as my first place and went from there. The flat cost 73k in 2002. It sold again 18 months ago for 206k House prices are distorting everything. |

Youād still have to find 15 grand as a deposit and that for a house in one of the cheaper areas of the uk. |
