Ashby
at 09:00 15 Dec 2024

I've said a couple of times that I am gobsmacked at a recruitment policy that brings in 2 fullbacks in support of a centreback playing out of position, whilst simultaneously failing to sign anyone to play on the opposite side - even as cover!

Marti wants to play with a back four: in my opinion, that requires 2 x starting fullbacks plus cover. To end up with such an imbalance is pretty poor. Paal suffers from not being Willo but he is at least a Bidwell-type of steady performer. Right now, that's a good thing, especially compared to the alternative. Ashby has his moments but I can't blame him for being here or for playing: those aren't his call really. He can own his mistakes but I see a player giving the lot and learning on the job.

That game was ugly as sin. But we came away from a 3 game week unbeaten with 7 from a possible 9 points. Frankly, the game could be as ugly as a Mordor porno: I'll take it.

The points, I mean.

*checks rules* No, no it's fine. It says here that if the player does not represent Queens Park Rangers then it shall be deemed permissable. Complaints to the contrary shall be punished by birching or transportation to the colonies.

To be fair, that's only 0.0000020500000000000003% of them. Probably wouldn't put it on your Tinder profile.

How come we always get teams likef Lower Slobovia, Melchester Rovers, the White Lion (Second XI) and the Isle of Wight?

It's the footballing equivalent of trying to find a date in a National Trust gift shop.*

* Obviously, there will be people reading this for whom the National Trust gift shop is their regular hook-up joint. If so, seek help - you've gone wrong.

Dunne, Cook and Morrison have been very good again. All have compressed the space and stepped into midfield in support of Field and Varane. Really impressive team play.

Ratting
at 21:30 9 Dec 2024

Serious(ish) question but was Saturday the first time we've seen the 'high press' in action this season? I felt that we out-ratted them across the park - significantly higher up the field than the Watford game.

This felt like a callback to the back end of last season, where we just throttled the opposition and won the ball back before they got into gear. On Saturday, Norwich never found their feet and it suited us.

To circle back to my point, was that the first time we've achieved that this season?
