shin splints (non QPR) on 12:51 - May 24 with 1214 views | WokingR | Nothing you can do apart from rest and anti inflammatories until it settles down but afterwards make sure you get some sorbethane rubber insoles. These are designed to act as shock absorbers, will prevent a reoccurrence and are what the physio recommended when I had it. That and losing a bit of weight!

shin splints (non QPR) on 12:58 - May 24 with 1194 views | WokingR | Yeah, he never came up with an answer to that one for me either. Also suggest the old RICE treatment. Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation. Basically, sit with your feet up and when you are not holding a bag of peas on your shins wear compression socks and try to stop thinking about biscuits All tried and tested

shin splints (non QPR) on 13:46 - May 24 with 1133 views | IrishR | Just a quick question, what is the real cause of shin splints? I get very sore shins when walking fast in non comfortable shoes i.e. work shoes which then flares up again when i want to play football around the same time. if i rest it for awhile granted i can play again but a friend told me that its to do with the muscle in the shin area and its prior lack of use. If you walk thru the pain etc it will build up the muscle and no longer be a problem. This could be completely wrong but just wanted to confirm it.
shin splints (non QPR) on 13:48 - May 24 with 1127 views | Charlie1 | RICE Rest Ice Compression Elevation Then get your gait analysed and probably change trainers. If you've got tight calves then you may not have shin spints. The tight muscle will pull on the soleous (think spelt like that) muscle tightening the shin. Misdiagnosed as shin splints. You'll have a tight soleous if it's fcking sore where the muscle attaches to the bone (in deep). Stretch and massage will then help it. Good luck

shin splints (non QPR) on 22:00 - May 24 with 963 views | Loomesy | No such thing as 'shin splints' But it's a commonly used phrase for it. It's actually called Medial tibial stress syndrome or compartment syndrome depending on symptoms and in fairness a lot of whats been said is good advice. If they don't help drop me a pm.
shin splints (non QPR) on 22:07 - May 24 with 949 views | LancsR | I had it for years and tried everything, eventually I bought a decent pair of trainers which sorted it.

Erm, swimming, cycling, rowing, any other exercise that doesn't involve running. Oh and stuffing your face less often.
