Article on the BBC about that penalty that's worth a read. Bit I found amazing was that in the event of the final ending in a draw, it was scheduled to go to a replay, however, a few days before the final, the Germans approached the Czechs and asked if they'd agree to penalties instead. Thinking they'd fair better in a sudden death shoot out as opposed to a second match, they agreed, and the rest is history. The reason being: several German players had holidays booked for immediately after the tournament! A classic case of the Germans having their towels out on the loungers before 'czeching' the weather!! https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/crgglxwge10o | |
