Waspi on 23:44 - Mar 23 by controversial_jack | Men did the higher paying jobs and worked longer hours. They also took time off to have a family and therefore slipped behind men in career progression because of it. An employer invests in an employee to make money for them - that’s the only purpose of employment. Men were and are more value to an employer than women are and they get rewarded more because of that. |
Would have thought the main purpose of employment was so the individual could live, buy food, afford housing, improve oneself, improve society. If no one worked we would all die of thirst and starvation very quickly.

Waspi on 18:41 - Mar 23 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | Best guess is historically speaking most jobs were incredibly physical and labour intensive and women probably didn’t want to do the jobs and weren’t generally as physically able to do it as men (biological fact). On the flip side there are a lot of industries that are dominated by women though. Teaching, carers, nursing, onlyfans etc, |
Not many in south Wales are aware if the physical nature of Mill work in the north of England .

The main purpose of employment in a capitalist market driven economy like ours, is for employees to make as much money for the employee as possible, then they can earn money to buy the products that these companies employ workers to make. From the employers side they don't care who they are as long as they are reliable, work hard and do long hours. If women have a family they need to take care of, or have time off, that's not their problem,it's just business they just want value from the employee and men offer better value. It's not denigrating the efforts of women, it's just explaining why men earn more than women, in general. We have legislation that ensures women earn the same rates as men for the same jobs, but if men work longer hours, then of course they will earn more

Yes of course they do, but why does a company take on employees? It's to make them money as efficiently and cheaply as possible

You are only looking at it from one angle though, why do ordinary people who don't own businesses go to work? Why do people start up their own businesses? Why do "nt for profit" charties take on employees? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

we know why ppl work, that's not in dispute, but an employee is an asset to an employer. Ever heard the term human resources. An employee is just another asset, like equipment etc. If an employer has no use for you they make you redundant. The old saying sums it up, " we are just a number!"

Sorry but your angle sounds a bit sexist to me, it assumes women will definitely take more time off, work less hours AND be less productive. That isn't always the case.

Speak to any GP these days and the self employed are less likely to pull a sickie Sone of the posts are shameful. Really shameful and that veneer is fading for many Women are NOT equal It’s as if some drivers see themselves are more important users of the road than cyclists spending real in Netherlands is eye opening .

But also some cyclists go out of their way to be a nuisance, it's as if being hit by a car won't hurt. Self employed dont get sick pay and can lose a contract if they don't turn up. My bro in law has been a self employed plasterer for nearly 40 years. Hardly any ick time in that, except when he was REALLY ill.

Motorcyclists are taxed, licenced and insured. They also don't largely ignore expensively constructed roads for their use and don't hold up other traffic because they can travel more than 20mph.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Cyclists have as much right AND as much responsibility. Bad drivers and bad cyclists are a menace. As are bad dog owners. Same goes for motorcyclists.
