Kicking off in Strady on 00:34 - Aug 15 with 5093 views | Robbie | Worked in the Llanelli area for nearly 40 years , always felt driving over Loughor Bridge on a daily basis doing return trips was the lack of passport control on the Bynea side . Totally passionate about The Scarlets , wonder why they kept part of their name and never merged , what an outcry that would have been . Some years ago a lot of Polish people settled in the area , from what I heard to do jobs nobody else wanted to do , a local slaughter house and meat process plant . The stories and feedback from the locals I got were they were tolerated but not fully accepted as Turks . Enjoyed my time in Llanelli but they are a different identity and a die hard culture . Stupid and ill thought out area to put asylum seekers , Stradey Park Hotel had a good reputation , been there myself for work outings . Heading into another corrupt backhander , take the contact , and money of course , nice . Along side Wilko , more jobs lost in our area , Drakeford , where are you . [Post edited 15 Aug 2023 0:36]

Only Tory Uk government is responsible for the small boats keeping on coming after the uk took back control. The Tories appointed the Clandestine Channel Threat Commander in 2020. We don't hear an awful lot about him any more. I wonder how his new job is going ..

Sorry for hijacking the question but no, I’m not. BUT, I don’t for one minute blame the hotel owners for cashing in on this at a time where the hospitality industry is in a perilous predicament and such establishments going through daily. The blame lies a lot higher up the chain!

We will never see the financials behind this individual hotel and the basis for the decisions made.

Yes. Led by Sid Jenkins who was arrested for corruption. That following the imprisonment of the previous council leader, Gerald Murphy (Labour). It was a glorious period for local government in Swansea.

From what I can gather, these owners have only just bought this hotel with the sole aim of getting a contract with the government. Who use clearsprings to run these establishments, and have multi million pound contracts with the government. They are not interested in the hospitality industry

Its fecking dreadful. As i already said, the UK govt should process these people near their country of origin. With legal routes to be decided there, not here. Are you happy with what this English Tory government is doing in Llanelli ? Its the reality.

So you're accepting the fact that 90 + low paid workers have been made redundant just so some quite likely already rich group can remain rich if not richer

As soon as they get wind that time is running out they will seek planning to knock it down/convert to houses/flats. IMO this would be granted as a better local option than housing migrants. I don't believe the change of use would be granted if it was still a hotel.

Well you’re making an assumption that the group are rich. Even if they are, they trade in profit not loss so we’d need to be in possession of the facts to make an opinion. I made mine, an assumption in itself, that the hotel was owned privately. If that was the case then I’d understand fully, under the economic climate, to sell up and capitalise.

I honestly believe that the name and reputation of the " The Stradey Park Hotel" will forever take a major 'brand' hit, even if it should attempt to go back to it's once esteemed reputation and forte for being a great place to have wedding receptions. I heard one Llanelli resident describe it as a "Jewell in the crown". Many weddings are now, for the younger generation(s) in particular 'major/number 1' social media occasions where everything is set-up to 'show-off' and 'self-indulge' in establishments considered to be 'classier' than your average/cheap 2-3 star hotel. And I guess many a fussy bride and family member, would never in a million years want to be married or associated with a place that was once a infamous and unwelcome large hostel where hundreds of foreign people lived to avoid sleeping on the streets.
