Things you like or even love about England 18:28 - Nov 17 with 2260 viewsKeithHaynes

For me, the proper pubs, the welcome in the north and the identity of the regions.

Agree totally.

The lake district
Cornwall
Going to decent music gigs (as above)
The city of Manchester (not the football teams) IMO the most progressive and vibrant city in the UK. I like Glasgow too but obviously that's not in England.

Cardiff arena is horrendous. Years since I have been to Wembley but the Manchester and Liverpool arenas are both far superior to Cardiff's

I don't like Manchester, much prefer Liverpool and Newcastle. London too anonymous. Natural beauty can't beat wales

Some good choices there.

Slightly disappointed in the V & A, but love the NHM and Science Museums and if around Trafalgar Square always make 30 minute for the National Portrait Gallery. The fact they are free is a great thing.

The Eagle & Child I'm not so keen on, though that's a personal choice. For me 'The Bell" at Aldworth up high on the downs of the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border would be my choice. The Lamb in Conduit Street in London-but we get the idea

Nor done Ullswater but the Steam Gondola or Coniston is great too.

Brixton Academy brings back some great memories-The Smiths, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Pixies, Cocteau Twins..... And a can of Red Stripe from the bar.

Northumbria coast is amazing-we had a week in Alnmouth a few years back.

Yes, loved the art galleries and museums when I worked in London, used to use them for client meetings to get out of the office.
Pubs with long histories are always a joy, I picked the Eagle and Child just for the thought that Tolkien and Lewis developed their ideas there. There's a pub in St.Albans, Royal Standard that's been a drinking hole for a thousand years!
Pick a cold day for Ullswater and get a whisky on the ferry, on the right day the ferry cuts through the mist on the lake; magical. The highlight of the Brixton Academy for me was a James Brown concert in the 80s.

Cumbria and Cornwall.
Stunning both.

Manchester is a former industrial behemoth. It was never pretty,it couldn’t be.
It has no natural features of worth. It’s why they envy Liverpool s glorious setting.
I cycle opposite the City when the cruise ships dick and with the Graces as a backdrop, few cities in the world compare for a Port city .

I’ve spoken to several cruisers ,mainlybYanks, and it’s the highlight of their trip.

Newcastle is also a gloriously situated city with real clout

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Something special about the Academy which elevated above the similar venues at the time (Astoria, Kilburn National and the Town and Country/Forum in Kentish Town). Although I saw bands in all four between 86-92, the Brixton Shows are more memorable. Must have been the Red Stripe.

I've got to add Brighton too.

If I could live anywhere other than Swansea that would be the place, bohemian and cosmopolitan in equal measure.

My wife and I favourite restaurant is there (terre a terre), live music and brilliant pubs. It's also incredibly tolerant and dog friendly.

A lot of people on here would hate it.

I bloody like Bristol too for similar reasons.
