Don't think I can stand another season 23:39 - Aug 16 with 7941 views | WatfordR | I pay my money to watch our lot and as much as I want them to be fantastic and win every game 6-0, I can tolerate watching poor performances from them, I've had nearly 50 years to get used to it. But I'm not sure I can spend another season watching such rank officiating. Absolutely no effort to put a stop to the timewasting that started in or around the fifth minute of the game. Countless fouls from Blackpool, 2 yellow cards. Free kicks taken yards ahead of where they should be, throw ins taken about 10 yards of where they should be, despite being told by officials to move back. And in the final insult, four minutes of added time that should have been about 10. Last season showed me, it's mainly just a different face, same ineptitude. And all this stuff can be so easily resolved. So frustrating.

Don't think I can stand another season on 00:17 - Aug 17 with 6007 views | ManinBlack | I see Nigel Pearson says he is thinking of quitting the game as the refereeing is the worst he has ever seen. I do agree with him that they get worse every year
Don't think I can stand another season on 01:04 - Aug 17 with 5923 views | ted_hendrix | Incredibly poor performance from the officials tonight that alone was not the reason for us losing though. Appleton has created a team who have mastered the art of shithousery, shithousery I can actually expect and just about live with but every 5 fcking minutes? What on earth were the officials watching Armstrong running down the SB stand at 100MPH with a fcking Blackpool player getting dragged along behind him whilst holding on to his shirt? that foul in Itself must have lasted all of 3--4 seconds long. I've never known shithousery to start in the first half either. Seemed to me that everytime the game stopped for a free kick or whatever all of a sudden there was a Blackpool player crumled in a heap. I figured about 6, 7 maybe 8 minutes of added time,we got 4 and that seemed to me to be the quickest 4 minutes of my life. Agony to watch

There needs to be an official clock that adds up stoppage time and automatically adds it on at the end of the half. Almost every other sport has it, no reason at all why football shouldn't.

Precisely. At the moment it seems almost guesswork with 1 min added on to 1st half and 4 or 5 mins to 2nd. An official time clock would help put a stop to all the nonsense that goes on.

This. Works very well in sports like rugby league and Aussie Rules football. Aussie Rules quarters for example can be anything from around 25 mins to well over 30 mins (offcial time is 20 mins a quarter) depending on stoppages. The clock is off during stoppages so sh1thousing is reduced to what you can do with the ball in play. You could reduce the official half in football to 40 mins and use this system and I guarantee you would get more actual playing time. [Post edited 17 Aug 2022 5:25]

Don't think I can stand another season on 04:55 - Aug 17 with 5762 views | Paddyhoops | The shithousing pretty started on the 46 minute. The inevitability of it was depressing. Another dreadful inept referee who was fawning over supposedly injured Blackpool players. They weren’t injured . They never are. Play around them. Get on with it. It didn’t masked the performance that stunk the place out though!!

Don't think I can stand another season on 06:15 - Aug 17 with 5637 views | Rs_Holy | one of the worst ref (and lino) performances I have witnessed for a very long time. Contributed to an incredibly frustrating evening and it's true that you walk away from games like that and think why did I fork out all that money?, why did I waste my evening?? We all overreact to results from time to time but I will not bother getting tickets in future if I know Andy Davies will be reffing the match. [Post edited 17 Aug 2022 10:59]

From where we were sat It was Impossible to see that, we had poor visual views of certain areas of the pitch, all we could see was the Blackpool player hanging onto his shirt, In any case a shirt pull Is a foul and should be treated as such, In my view our player was impeded. To our left was a column so it was impossible to see the school end SA Road corner flag, that was my first visit to the SB stand for years (and my last) the sky advertising hoarding things were a pain in the arse brighter than our own bloody floodlights. For the life of me we are living in a technical age and yet we still have to depend on bloody Billy Bunter deciding how much time is added on?? Good games--bad games I can deal with but last night was bloody hard to watch. [Post edited 17 Aug 2022 8:29]

Don't think I can stand another season on 08:37 - Aug 17 with 5254 views | WoodlaneR | The problem with the stop clock is that the ball is actually in play for an average of 50-55 mins I read once. Adding an extra 30 odd mins to a game doesn't appeal... especially to an away midweek game. When players are "injured", why can't the physio run on during play like they do in Rugby? Just play around them. No need to stop. Also, there should be a universal time allowed from the 1st minute for all throw-in and GKs. Say 10 seconds. I guess there is a rule for GKs but it isn't enforced until the last couple of minutes. The amount of time it takes for these long throw specialist to set themselves up is a joke. That alone must take 10mins out of a game. Don't know why they are allowed to take as long as they like to dry the ball? Personally don't think we lost yesterday due to the officiating but the bigger picture of time wasting needs to be addressed. Obviously wont be...... but feels good to let it out. :).

You can't rely on most refs to get this right so it has to be done by a time keeper who does nothing else in a match. They need to look at a hundred odd games find the average time the ball is in play and use that as the benchmark. I think it would add to the excitement too. Similar to rugby when the clock runs down and the game finishes the next time the ball goes out of play... Needs to be done.

He literally was getting dragged along, wasn't he? Looked like Amstrong was taking him out for a bit of kite surfing. Why that lino chose to ignore it is beyond me. Even if the ref is playing the advantage I thought he still has to flag to signal that it's happening shirley? There's no way he didn't see it. I found myself partly incensed and partly embarrassed for the bloke. Also partly bewildered. A range of emotions basically, none of them good.
Don't think I can stand another season on 09:30 - Aug 17 with 5081 views | Padulas_Shampoo | Totally agree with this and well said. There's no point putting the onus on clubs to sort this problem out because it's such a competitive division that everyone is looking for any slight edge over the rest. Manipulating the clock is undoubtedly wrong. It's time the officials step in and take charge of the game. A CIES Football Observatory study had the Championship 35th out of 37 European football divisions for the amount of time the ball is actually in play, better only than the Spanish 2nd division and the Czech first division. 51 minutes on average per match - a full 8 minutes behind the Eredivisie for example. That's PER MATCH. It's not hard to spot and it's not hard to fix. The ref can have a play clock in his head as soon as the ball is available to be put in play, take longer than 10 seconds, the player gets booked. Blackpool would have been down to 7 men last night. Connolly would have been sent off in the first 20 minutes. Except they wouldn't because they'd stop doing it. Not getting at Blackpool either - we've been just as bad at times especially away from home obviously. It literally is agony to watch, I can feel my blood pressure rising watching it. Isn't the whole point of the silly game to entertain those spectators? [Post edited 17 Aug 2022 9:32]

Don't think I can stand another season on 09:31 - Aug 17 with 5070 views | Esox_Lucius | Chatting on the way back and came up with a change to the throw in law whereby the 3rd official will place himself 0.5m in front of where the throw is to be taken and the player taking the throw has to have released the ball before reaching that point. It wouldn't slow the game down and the official already has to stand somewhere so why not there? Kudos for the Stevie Wonder chant at the end, it was apposite.

Don't think I can stand another season on 09:43 - Aug 17 with 5026 views | Rangers67 | I sympathise with Pearsons point of view. As an example last night at the start of the game two Blackpool players went down injured together. When play started again both were allowed to stay on the pitch ! Why ? Next time a rangers player went down he had to go off , please explain the difference someone. I understand the original idea behind this was to stop play acting but it is a stupid rule because the team that committed the foul restarts the game with 10 v 11. Anyway in fairness the ref although poor didn’t influence the outcome of this match as we were outplayed by a much better team. Beale has a massive job on his hands.

Don't think I can stand another season on 10:11 - Aug 17 with 4940 views | HamptonR | This season was the first time in nearly fifty years that I considered not renewing my season ticket, not because of the way we have or had been playing but because of the officiating at matches. When will a referee get hold of a game and control it, and the players. Tell the players what he expects and make them follow his (or her) instructions. A player faking injury, should be told, to get up or get off, if the player needs treatment he goes off for a set amount of time, at least 30 seconds, or better 1 minute. If the ref is constantly having to stop a corner being taken because of shenanigans in the 6 yard box, go and tell whichever players, the usual offenders, If I have to talk to you two again, you are both in the book. Pointing at your watch and making grand hand gestures is very boring, have a word, then get a card out, it will soon speed things up. Not every throw can be taken from the exact point the ball went out, but FFS, at least insist it should be taken in the same postcode! ARs are getting worse by the week. They are not allowed to give throw ins but can be trusted to give fouls and offsides. At one point last night the ball went out for a very obvious corner but the AR didn't give it until the ref signalled that it was a corner. Time added on; last night seemed very wrong, I had had enough by then but where did the four minutes come from, or rather where did the other three or more minutes go? When I go to the theatre, I pay for a ticket and expect to see the show, all of the show, not just 55 minutes of it while the rest of the time is spent watching the lead actor and supporting cast, sitting down, pretending to be hurt, taking minutes to deliver a line with only one word it in, and then be told the big finish is cancelled because there are only for minutes left. A football match will never contain the full 90 minutes with the ball in play but something needs to be done and quickly, before going to football becomes a chore rather than what it used to be, which was fun.
