Strange “hot take”, Jasper. What happens with Ipswich and departures I have no idea or care, but football works this way. The club has been a nightmare off the pitch for many years, and their players have had to sacrifice quite a bit. Downes and Andre Dozzell have been the Crown Jewels of their academy and club, and they have both shown their frustration with the overall situation off the pitch and on it at many points. Dozzell put together a pretty good season last year and got a £1m move to QPR, but he has been rather underwhelming for many years. Touted as the next big thing and hasn’t really lived up to those expectations. He may well do that in London, and time, talent and pedigree are on his side. Downes has been the better prospect and player for awhile, although he struggled a bit with injuries last season and wasn’t selected as often because of handing in a transfer request and tension with the club and coach. He is a true destroyer, gets up and down the pitch, intelligent footballer, and has good touch and quality on the ball and in possession. Good footballer with the best years ahead of him, and well liked by the fanbase, despite issues with the front office. The fans know Ipswich has looked a joke recently, and understand that players will reasonably begin to get fed up and want to leave. Downes wants to play at a higher level and for a better-run club and that is perfectly understandable given the situation. Time is now to make a move. It is clear your infatuation with Grimes and his likely departure is boiling over into your views on our players and prospective players, thread after thread after thread, and that is your prerogative as a commenter. But as a spectator, you are letting yourself down here and you are just flatly continuously wrong.

Haha, I wouldn’t blame him, Andy. Sheeran’s a decent songwriter, credit where credit’s due. He’s got the billions or whatever for a reason, dude know’s how to write what registers as a “hit” these days. I don’t personally like his music and find him quite smarmy and annoying, but he’s doing something right. The TikTok gig and receiving and accepting a squad number for Ipswich are rather idiotic and reflective of where music and football is in general right now, and especially the type of leadership the club has. No wonder Downes is fed up and wants out, I would too. Having said that, I would be fully supportive if the club decided to honor Pete Ham in a similar fashion. Proper songwriter and legend taken too soon.
