Looks like it will be a toughie, only good thing is that the starting line up is strong, we can cope with the loss of Romeu & Adams, its the bench that is the worry, hopefully this will bring out our spirit

What a wonderful night. Ralph was in pieces at the end there. We have a club, team, manager that we can be proud of. Magnificent

A great great team effort that, even more so due to the regulars missing
Diallo looks a player

Absolutely emotional about that result. Such spirit throughout and everyone just did their bit. Great defending and Jack Stephens - you have come in on the back of alot of doubts and you have not given up.

For all their second half bluster, Liverpool rarely got a sight of our goal. Stephens and Bednarek were as superb as they were when we beat Man City 1-0 and Forster was rarely troubled.

When ings and Walcott came off I did think what are we doing bringing all the nippers on.
Dialo looked class. Great foot in and calm on the ball.

Top man A1079. I wouldn’t change being a Saint for anything, the bad times make the good times even sweeter

Didn't the commentator say that we have some sort of record for always beating the champions?

I agree Ingskneeslide.

When you support the team that is part of your roots and surroundings through thick and thin but know they are not the best in the world you live for moments like this. Yes, you can support a team that wins a trophy nearly every year (and I am not saying I would not mind experiencing the winning of a trophy) but you somehow feel something special when your team upsets the big boys even if you have to wait for those moments.

RH was really emotional at the end. Just wish we could be there to get behind him vocally so he can feel what his work means to us.

Am I allowed a slight negative?

Should Valery have made it 2, was sure he'd have put more welly in to that, but as he hasn't been near getting on the pitch for a while maybe a bit rusty?

Saints V Liverpool Matchday Thread on 22:50 - Jan 4 with 956 viewsSadoldgit

The second half was a tough watch, just like the City game last season. They don’t do my nerves any favours but, boy, does it feel great when that final whistle blows. Made all the sweeter by the number of youngsters in the pitch at the end. Every single player put in a massive shift and all deserve credit. Ralph on his knees in tears at the end will be an image that will live long in the memory. What a start to the New Year!!

A bit more energy on the ball and he would have made it 2 and we could have relaxed a little. He probably is rusty and we forgive him because it did not make a difference in the end but being football fans I doubt we would have been so forgiving had Liverpool gone up the other end and scored.

Incredible game, what a great team we have become. With so many injuries the nippers stepped up.

André Marina let the game flow nicely too, none of that blowing the whistle every time a star player falls over. As good a player as he, I hate watching Grealish play, it's cheap and nasty and ruins the game when you cheat the ref all the time.

Read a stat (not checked out the accuracy mind) that suggests Saints have now beaten all of the PL championship winning sides the season after they lifted the title.

Great result and so good to see the joy on the managers face. Being honest, i didnt think we wpuld hold on but credit to all for the shifts they put in.

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......

I agree that Romeu has been one of our best players this season, but back in the summer we were bemoaning losing Hojbjerg and now one was suggesting that Romeu was the man to replace him, all im saying is give Diallo a chance

I was glad to see the back of Hojberg. Full of himself but couldn't make a decent pass in a knocking shop. Romeu has always been the better player.
Diallo and Tella both look like class players though.

Just to clarify this - allegedly......

Southampton are the first team to beat all seven winners of the Premier League in the season after a title win.

Last nights performance reminded me of many great wins at The Dell

The way we dug in after taking the lead was tremendous, and to restrict Liverpool to one shot on target fantastic, with blocks and challenges in our area by many of our players superb

Ironic that Klopp complains about there lack of penalties, especially after loads of decisions that went their way last season. Now he knows how clubs like Saints feel on a regular basis

He let it flow too much. Well beyond the extra time !
