Dead Kennedys & Suicidal Tendencies 18:30 - Sep 28 with 5199 viewsNeath_Jack

Came across both these bands for the first time today.

The chap who played them, reckons they are more thrash/metal than punk.

I know we have a couple of punk aficionados on here, so what are they?

(This is a BLM free zone, thank you).

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

The original members would both say punk, but the fact people see them in different ways is a testament of time and their influence. The lead singer of the Dead Kennedys as was, Jello Biafra would totally agree, 100% punk rock. Had a really nice few hours with him at Rebellion festival a few years back. He came to see my band play and was telling me how much the second wave of punk influenced him massively.
He has a you tube channel, What would Jello do ?
Interesting lunatic he is.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Brings back memories of being 16 and listening to ‘Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables,

John Peel was a massive influence as a teenager and introduced me to many bands I would never have heard of

I do believe this was first single from the album , released in 79

Ever heard the ‘Disposable Heroes of Hiphophrisy’ version? Very good too-
Samples the original chorus.

When I hear Peel and DK together it reminds me of him compering the Reading Festival in 1989- seemed to play ‘My Payola’ about 20 times.

I stand to be corrected but I’m sure both of those played The Troubadour years ago.

Hardly my thing though, not the sort of gigs that would have excited the interest of a pubescent Rockabilly...

Ha! Well I was playing Vaughan Williams in the car on the way home earlier so you’re not far wrong.

Magical it is too. Beautiful.

If you were living near our beautiful peninsular I could prove to you that in my car I have Plastic Bertrand and Purcell as well as Widors Toccata in D major. Its a work to lift the spirits of the dead.

Vraiment.

J'aime votre PG Tips monsieur.

Seriously, loh, one of the few positives my parents gave me was a love of Organ music.

My mother, sister and myself (first time round) had pre eminent organists.

I used to play-albeit extremely badly and we had a Hammond at home. Sadly,my interpretation of "America" -arr Keith Emerson remains the greatest travesty of musical interpretation the village of Killay has ever heard. I was popular with neighbours.

Before my time, wish it wasn't, I know Keith used to go there and the rank in Cardiff, those days were tricky I understand. I have spent a number of years as a roadie, driver, guitar tech with loads of USA bands and loved it. From the biggest to the best. But the old school punks are the most interesting, and talented.

OK I've changed it.

When I was 17-18 I only had two t-shirts that I used to rotate constantly - one was Siouxsie and the Banshees the other was a Dead Kennedys ‘dead presidents’ shirt. Lived in them. Check out Fugazi, I still listen to them - 13 Songs is a good start.

You’d have loved the Klub Foot nights up at the Clarendon before they knocked her down.

Bonkers it used to be!

I went to see the Cramps in 1986. Just before ‘A’ levels. When I got home my folks thought we had been beaten up. No, just down the front. Saw King Kurt too.

Saw some indie bands in the Clarendon- The Primitives and Tallulah Gosh. Their singer went on to be chief economist of the OFT and is Professor of Economics at
UEA. Interviewed her and her (still partner) for a fanzine when called Heavenly in 1991

Have a vague memory of reading about a big punch-up in there involving Swans and Man U fans before or after our game with them in Division 1 days.
