The NBA are looking at suspending games (going on strike) in support of BLM and are making political statements re: the government and law enforcement.

Here’s the thing though, having aligned themselves with BLM from the start their audiences had already fallen 40%.

How do you see this panning out for the NBA?
Does the audience dropping off so dramatically point to a poor election for the democrats?
Should sporting organisations play politics in general? Is it ever right?
Will the NBA stars influence young voters and succeed in applying political pressure on the government?

I don’t like sport and politics mixing one bit. It’s incredibly divisive.

They are happy to make political statements... as long as the social justice doesn’t interfere with their profits or contracts though. All political statements regarding social justice were fine except those against China who are ethnically cleansing muslims from their country and imposing their communism of Hong Kong.

Their virtue signalling is as transparent as LeBron James’ reading ability.

No Play, No Pay.
As individuals they can do & say what they want, but as a team under management they can't unless the management authorise it.
If the management authorised it they have actively moved in to politics.

I was just about to mention this. The grovelling apology the entire league had to make because a few individuals spoke out in support of the protesters in Hong Kong was hugely embarrassing.

Politics and sport is just a minefield.

I can't see Hamilton boycotting the belgium grand prix because of their colonial past. He is too interested in earning tax free money and becoming world champion again.
A bit of a hypocrite really.

I see Lewis Hamilton (you know, the guy espousing the virtues of a vegan diet whilst flying around in a private jet) won't pull out of the Belgian GP. Because that would mean he'd have actually scarified something tangible for the cause.

I didn't even notice the above post. Glad someone else has noticed!

If we take him on his word, he must think that taking the knee and wearing a t shirt offers more of a unifying message than a complete boycott. Or maybe he's just a posturing moron, overflowing with throw-away platitudes. Gee, I do wonder.

He’s changed his mind now. The boycott is over he’s going to play again.

That lasted long.

I think this all started with the Milwaukee Bucks refusing to take to the court in a play-off game, they are from Wisconsin, the same state that the latest police shooting occurred in, so I actually applaud them for what they did.

As for Lewis, I do love to see him race but he is a hypocritical prat.

NFL players now have the option of having the names of the dead on their helmets.

This is going to cause an almighty fuss - far more significant that the NBA stuff.

Running around with the names of rapists, burglars and drug dealers emblazoned on their kit? Really?

It is possible now to start seeing this in starkly Manichaean terms. The communist scum are invading Churches and attacking worshippers at Communion. This has to be the point where patience is exhausted.

A player actually is filmed making a racial slur on the court during a playoff match and the NBA fall silent.

I know of a young local lad who experiences racial abuse (for being white) nearly every time he plays a team from London (from black kids)...this lad plays to a very high standard.

The refs do nothing and the coaches tolerate it.
Meanwhile professional football preaches anti-racism and everybody takes a knee a couple of times a week.

That’s the dangers of critical race theory... you can’t be racist if you are black.
