Cardiff will not stop until they have stolen everything Wales has 13:32 - Nov 15 with 15339 viewsCopperJack

Not only have they taken the MTC despite all the opposition against it, and it defying all logic, they're now going to stop us getting the chest and lung surgery centre

Well done Labour supporters. You must be very proud.

This will go on until the inequality in Wales becomes politically unacceptable and there is no sign of that.

Welsh people are too thick to realise it's unacceptable. Only Wales would continue to vote in a government that fails in education, health, the economy, pretty much everything, with ever increasing majorities.

This will continue forever, because Welsh people will never break out of their apathy to stop it happening. Red sash + donkey = Welsh people voting for them.

The only correction I'd like to make to your post is that it's actually a minority of Welsh people that are too thick, not all Welsh people. At a guess I'd say it's probably half of the Welsh Labour voters that are responsible for our dismal representation in the WAG.

The numbers quoted are 428 against the transfer from Cardiff to Swansea and 339 for the transfer. A total of 767 people out of more than 3 million.

Then the report says that 321 (big majority against) from the South East were asked the question while 195 from Swansea/SW Wales (big majority for) were asked. So, the majority against was 89 while the numbers asked in the South East was 126 more than in the South West.

The report is probably a little more complicated than that but those figures make the whole exercise seem just a little bit knobby.

If you live in South East Wales it makes perfect sense to keep voting Labour in as your lives will only get better whilst the rest of us are left to stagnate.

You need to read that article again. Look at the numbers who responded and where they were from.

To quote:

"But 53% of people across Wales who responded to a consultation said they were against the plans, while just 42% agreed.

Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Community Health Council has also said it will not support the plans, citing issues such as accessibility and transport, and lack of information about time-scales and finances of the project.

A total of 428 people said they disagreed with the plans, while 339 people agreed.

Opposition to the plan was most felt in south-east Wales, especially Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan health board patients, where 299 people disagreed and just 22 agreed."

FFS little surprise there then. You really are a bit of a drama queen and as for calling Welsh people too thick to realise or understand the situation is as insulting as your total lack of decorum.

We shouldn't all be tarred with the same brush you know!

We vote in a government that continuously gives us nothing, gives everything to Cardiff, and we keep voting them in. How is that not thick?

They'll now give Cardiff the lung Surgery, like they gave them the MTC and Neuro surgery, and so on.

Just like they've closed the BBC operations in Swansea to centralise in Cardiff. Just like they supported Channel 4 moving to Cardiff. Just like they gave money to regnerate Penarth Pier but couldn't fund Mumbles Pier. Just like they spent more on the Millenium Centre than they have on any project in Swansea, ever. Just like they give Cardiff council more money PER CAPITA than Swansea Council, despite the higher GDP of the city, just like they heavily funded Cardiff Bay, and continue to with £20m p/a, just like they promised to create a second marina in SA1 then changed their mind, and so on, so forth.

We'll keep voting in the same people who want to turn Wales into a city-state, and Swansea will get poorer and poorer.

Of course public transport to Morriston Hospital isn't great from Cardiff, funnily enough, public transport to the Heath isn't great from Swansea either. But they'll still use 'overwhelming opposition' to stop the plan.

We don't realise the situation, or, if we do, we are too apathetic to do anything about it. Not sure which is worse.

Using facts is useless in these situations. Take the MTC, there's one in Bristol. Bristol to Cardiff is roughly 43 miles, live anywhere between Cardiff and Bristol and you've two MTC's in less than an hours ambulance ride, live in West Wales, Llanelli or further and you'll need an air ambulance to have any chances of making it alive. Swansea made much more sense, even more sense again would have been to put it further west, Camarthen maybe.
I remember reading that at one point, for every pound spent on Swansea the WG was spending 7 on Cardiff, I wonder what the current figures are?
Expect things to be even worse if Drakeford gets in. He's from Camarthenshire but AM for Cardiff West. Maybe, like other politicians, he's forgotten his roots and what things are like outside the political bubble.

The Welsh Assembly is a farce... another layer of government that we don’t need. They don’t even look after wales as they only seem interested in Cardiff.

Time to get rid. If that doesn’t happen then suck it up! I say this becuase the generally Welsh voters lack the awareness to vote in a government for Wales, as if it’s red they’ll vote for it! And, let’s be realistic here, was always going to happen.

I personally know a few AMs And a couple of ex AMs. Good people they are and they do care, but politicians who will command respect and make a difference they are not. Just Career politicians who’ve done well out of it. And, actually we’ll done" they’ve made the best of what they had or tried. But it is what it is, a gravy train.

More people supported the move for an assembly based in the Guildhall as opposed to City hall- Guess what !!!

Not to mention how much money they pump into Cardiff airport to stop it from going under.
I fly out of Cardiff a lot , and the only thing I have to worry about is getting knocked over by the tumbleweed as it blows through the terminal. There are so few passengers there, if it wasn't so heavily subsidised it would close. Now Bristol airport, chalk and cheese.

The one incident that truly epitomised the fact that the WAG is an obscenity and a "Labour Party comes before constituents" refuge for appalling and disgusting 'career politician' types?

Was Professor Robert Leonard's protest move concerned about disgraceful underfunding and Cardiff centric bias.

Singleton Hospital was denied adequate funding at a time when (been in power for years at that stage) Welsh Labour/WAG Labour was more concerned about prioritising tens of millions of Pounds on grandiose 'white-elephant' vanity projects in Cardiff Bay. We are talking peoples lives here, we're talking cancer treatment here!

There was absolutely no concern for the people of Swansea/SW Wales because if so?....Local A.M's down this way would have addressed previous concerns and funded Singleton with desperately required money the very day the WAG's doors first opened.

So you would rather travel to the south of Bristol than fly from the outskirts of Cardiff ?
Wales needs a decent airport ffs, just because we let a French company run the business almost into the ground doesn't mean we should just let it disappear do we? It needs investment and more carriers then it will easily be as good as Bristol.

It is interesting what you say about the number of punters using Rhoose. I have not flown from there for years.
The one time I dropped a relative off for a flight to Glasgow a couple of years ago there were only 6 people outside the departure lounge, including me.
Fly Be could be going bust soon so I expect another tens of millions pound cheque heading their way from Cardiff Bay. Followed by another to support that vital route to Qatar.....
Apparently the airport is thriving however and the Qatar line is pulling in nearly as many passengers as the established route in Brum. The airport is due to make a profit for the first time in years, or so we are told. I am sure we are being taken for fools with this Cardiff White Elephant.
It is truly shocking however when virtually all Health Services are being centralised in Cardiff. An area that is geographically unsuitable to serve Wales and could be more than adequately served by Bristol.

Sorry Byron, yes would much happily travel to Bristol if the money which is being pumped into Rhoose to keep it alive was invested elswhere in Wales.
You fly from Bristol, Glagow , Edinburgh and Dublin all these airports are packed all times of the day, you fly to and from Rhoose and its generally empty. Why is this -it's because Wales is a small nation, with relatively poor inhabitants. Unfortunately, you wont like this Byron, but Cardiff is a small Capital, which is too poor and too small to sustain an airport without massive subsidies.
The sooner our politician's and those in Westminster realise that by spreading investment and wealth throughout the nation, the better overall Wales will be in terms of sustaining the nation and long term sustainability.
You can put as many trinkets as you want in Cardiff Bay, but without thd real population and wealth to go with it, it's all wasted.

Yes I know it’s a small capital, it’s growing a lot these days but it will never be a big city. Bristol is hardly a thriving metropolis though is it? I know I lived there for 5 years. Sure it has the very wealthy in Clifton but a lot of the city is just the same as Cardiff. Main issue I think is many area around Cardiff are not wealthy, the valleys, Newport, Bridgend, pt even you lot. Maybe not so around Bristol with bath and Cheltenham etc.
Best thing that could ever have happened would be to build a much better airport on the border and merge the two so to speak. A proper rival to going to London and Manchester maybe. Won’t happen though so we can just suffice with two substandard airports eh? All Bristol really has is easy jet and the days of me putting up with that sort of travel have long gone.

Aye, You could swear (WAG seems to think so, and certainly acts like it is) this part of the world is some kind of sparsely populated bleak outpost like fictional Craggy Island you see in Father Ted series.

(See my above post)...RE: Swansea/SW Wales cancer head's resignation i.e. during that time some Swansea/SW Wales cancer patients had to travel to all the way to Cardiff for wire-excision-biopsy procedures.

SWEP health correspondent (now working for NHS) was extremely worried for future Swansea/SW Wales services because of Cardiff centric bias. That sort of says something rather profound, cos if she has that mindset we all should! What will things be like in 20 years time?

Of course Cardiff is growing a lot, isn't that kind of the gist of this thread?

Cardiff airport, living in the East of Swansea it took me about an hour to drive there for a 6am flight to Spain, there was no rush, no long queues for parking or at check in...in fact there was no queue at all at check in and our flight wasn't full. Going through security was quick and easy but what should be an upside is also the downside, it was empty, as a business it's not viable without the WG propping it up and I too would happily drive to Bristol or London for my flight if that money was spent on healthcare instead. You go to any other international airport and they are busy 24/7. Why do we prop up a private business when our public services are being cut? Is it because Cardiff must have? Is it because it's handy for the WG people to fly from? It's certainly not better for Wales.

Perhaps it's time (or well past time) we have a new political party in Wales. A party for Wales that's not Plaid, a party that will look after and act in the best interests of all Wales and not just the South East corner. Hell, even Cardiff City have benefitted from WG charity, cheap land wasn't it. Talking of land, another 7 million wasted,

Bristol is by far the superior airport (and city). For a start it stands by itself and is viable. It also offers much more and is far more accessible.

Bristol used to be awkward to get to and parking was a nightmare, done a lot of upgrading have they?
A better plan, joined up if expensive would have been to put the National stadium AND airport fairly close together on a greenfield site with railway and motorway links.
Rhoose could have had a housing development, where the principality is now could have developed too.
