How come Newport which is closer to London than both Cardiff & Swansea are in the northern section.
Wolves (Southern) further away than Villa in the northern Section.

Also the so called big clubs , why are they not in the competition until 3rd round. It will make no difference to them as they will all play reserves and youth anyway.
It really is a mickey mouse competition , as soon as prem teams get a sniff of Wembley they play their best players anyway.

The Year is 1975 and it's the last day of term. I look round the classroom to what games My mates have brought in for games day... Wembley! Woohoo and so our fun begins.
Let jump forward 41 years and they have only gone and re-printed one of My childhood favourites! So is it still the game it was or has it been knocked out in the first round.
Wembley is a family board game for 2-12 players that plays through the FA cup from the fourth round right through to the final at Wembley. The game was originally released back in 1952 and stayed in print pretty much until the mid 90's.
The game is played over a series of Cup rounds. Each player is given cash to spend and a number teams depending on the number of players. Each round teams are drawn against each other and controlling players have the option to invest in star players to try to add goals to the dice rolls which will decide the winner of the matches seeing that team advance to the next round. The result also gives a cash payout from gate receipts of the home team increasing a players funds to spend as the game goes on. Any teams that are not divided out during the setup bid on by players as they appear in the draw. There are six dice in the game noted by colour each representing a teams division and whether they are home or away. The dice a biased to favour higher division teams and the teams playing at home. The ultimate aim of the game is to have the team that wins the FA Cup final, though there is an option to award the win to the manager who has the most money.
This reissue of the classic game is set around the 1980-81 FA Cup. This I guess has been done as it means that most of the current top clubs are featured. The game over the years would change the top teams dependant on the year it was made. Alas they couldn't have predicted Leicester City Winning the Premiership this year but fear not as they give you blank slips and card that you can write on and substitute your favourite team into the game. The single page rules sheet is fairly straight forward and clear.
There are very few decent Football board games. So for Me even after all this time the game, as a family experience does stand up well. Technology in manufacturing now means the vibrant and colourful game board can tri-fold and fit into a smaller box When compared to the huge bi-fold board boxes of earlier versions. The original game back in 1952 had a small box but the huge board was separate. You could probably fit the new board in the original box. On the flip side it's a real shame the components haven't seen an upgrade. The paper money is thin and flimsy, maybe thinner than monopoly money. The dice look printed rather than engraved, so heavy use may see wear on the numbers. the draw slips are thin and flimsy too, though the big cards are fairly good card stock.
Overall I love this game, so much so I bought another copy for a gift. Maybe I am biased by My happy childhood memories of this game. Having just played it a couple of times today, actually on FA cup final day, it gave Me a real grin factor. My family joined in and although they don't all enjoy board games as much as I do they all picked up pretty quickly and everyone enjoyed it.
