Whilst Allen was doing great at the Euros, Carroll was on holiday after a wonderful season divided between the first team bench and the Spurs reserves.

Yeah! give me Carroll over Allen every time...... not related to Huw, are you ?

Here he goes again our resident twpo...

Would Carroll have got in the Welsh squad?

Take your time bach....

Carroll would have played more if he hadn't got an injury right when Ki went away for the Asia Cup.

Think Fulton got his first start around then in a win over Southampton.

Exactly

We all love Joey but there were plenty on here in the summer saying he wasnt worth £12m and he wouldn't have added much to our squad and we were fine for options at CM. Shows the lack of football knowledge in many.

People still think he need a "hard man" to help keep us up... no, we need players who can play football to keep us up. Carroll can do that

Carroll is a good enough footballer, but to me he's one of those fairweather players. He looks good when those around him are all ticking along nicely.

The difference between him and Allen is the tenacity. Allen was one of the most tenacious player I've seen in a swans shirt. He'd harry, press and intercept more than others. He had, and has, a knack for winning the ball back. We miss that. Carroll wont' give us that.

Carroll is a british Ki. Now, I actually like Ki all things being equal, as I would also like Carroll. But things aren't equal. We're sh*t. We need a miracle and have done so for at least a month. I don't see this as a signing that has a material impact on our survival chances. Should we, by some miracle, stay up, he'd be a good addition to the squad next season to replace dross like Cork, but I'm not convinced he's the answer right now.

Enjoying the next level

Fair enough. We need a couple more signings after Carroll and Olsson too...

A fair critique from FOAJP and one I can respect, unlike a lot of the usual piss arse garbage that is often aimed at him.

I also agree with the tenacity that Allen brings to the table and yes he is a ball winner as much as he can pass. That's why I was utterly desperate to have him back in the Summer and literally could not believe my eyes seeing him hold up that Stoke shirt.

If the whole horrible way the previous scum sold us out could be described in one action, it's letting Joey go to Stoke when he really wanted to come back to us.

Disgusting from Jenkins and Co. Unforgivable.

But that ship has passed now. Gone. Not an option and certainly not helpful to us in our present dire situation to keep harping on about him. It's painful enough without the constant reminders.

Tom Carroll, if he will still come to us will be a step in the right direction again. He's got skill in abundance and a great quick passer. Yes he's not the great presence we hope for but we should all be hopeful he can settle down properly with a club and really kick on and fulfil his potential.

He has got potential and lots of it. He really did shock a lot of people on here last season with some Spurs appearances, I remember myself thinking the same thing... Fair play I thought, he's a credit to himself forcing his way into contention in that side.

He's down the pecking order there now so we'll know he's not the finished article but he's a small gamble 100% worth taking.

That's a solid post. Fair weather footballer and British Ki are good descriptions of him. When things are going well, he will look superb. When they aren't, I don't see him as the type to roll his sleeves up. We already have players like that. Why not try to compliment them rather than slightly upgrade them?

People can criticise Dyer and a lot of it is justified, but he had that tenacity yesterday. Made a nuisance of himself, intercepted a few balls and broke down a few of their moves. We only have Leon with that mindset in midfield and he isn't going to be there long.

One of the things I remember from his 1st spell here is how impressive his positional sense was

Being defensively strong is not all about big tackling

One of the things I remember from his first time here his positional sense mainly involved sitting on the bench.

Perhaps a good player, not what we need now, we may as well stick rather than twist on this one. Let's buy for the Championship when we are there.

Swansea City, THE Austerity Club.

Ki was in the form of his life while Carroll was with us, even Leon barely got a look in that season (Carroll made more league appearances).

Ki and Shelvey both superb that year. Monk had no reason at all to drop either for a loanee that was never gonna become permenant. He done a great job when called upon.

Maybe we should look at Dyer becoming a DM in the Britton role. Who knows?

Well if we can get a centre half in then there could be an option of putting Mawson in as DM.

Seems intelligent and has a good pass in his locker.

Or we could just buy/loan a proper one.

I wouldn't go that far...

Britton was a tricky winger when he started but that was lower league. His reading of the game is superb. I doubt there are many wingers who could adapt to that role. Especially ones that barely get a game on the wing

United have turned Valencia into a pretty good right back. As for Carroll he'll be ok.gives us a left footed option in midfield.

He is decent. If he was at the club now I'd probably start him most games. Not sure he is a big upgrade on what we already have or whether he will add much. He will help us retain and recycle possession, which at least should ease a bit of pressure on our defence

I don't think going out and signing a strong player in the midfield to do the ugly stuff and break down opposition attacks higher up the pitch is a negative move towards becoming eternal long ball cloggers. Looking at the top sides in the prem, they all, with the exception of Liverpool and possibly Utd. have a midfield based on a strong ball winner in the midfield. Xhaka at Arsenal, Fernando at City, Kante at Chelsea, Wanyama/Dier at 'Spurs, Gueye at Everton.

Upthecity!
