Spent a bit of time down Gower lately, I thought dogs were banned from the beaches during the summer months but I was wrong, you are permitted to take your dog on certain beaches and Oxwich is one of them. It was a lovely day, beach was full of families with a number of toddlers running about, there was also between 40 and 50 dogs running loose all over beach crapping and pissing everywhere.... Fecking dreadful.

That is dreadful. Worse is when the owner shouts over "It's ok they won't bite you!" as a dog twice the size of ones toddler is being jumped on.

I'm willing to wager that the humans left far more (not literal) crap on the beach than the dogs.

It's the owners though - can't blame the dogs - they're probably more intelligent.

Just go to one of the beaches they are banned from. Langland, Caswell, part of Port Eynon, I think some of Swansea Bay. This isn't aimed at you in any way, but it makes me laugh when people who rarely go to Gower, go down there and moan about people walking dogs on the beaches. A lot of those people take their dogs there all year round. They don't just pop down for an ice cream every July.

Yes, you're probably right but I had my 2 year old Grandson with me at the time and he very nearly picked up a dog turd half buried in the sand. I just didn't like to see it.

That really gets to me also. I have heard that over the years a few times and actually seen the dog of "It's ok they won't bite you!" then kick off seconds later. I have a Yorkie and despite the minimal likelihood of it biting and causing terrible injury I still have the common sense to have it on a lead especially when kids of toddler age around. I hate having to walk into the path of oncoming bull terrier, rottweiler, german shepherd dogs in a narrow lane of confined space when the owner has the lead off. Common sense would say a dog would feel more threatened in a confined space and be more protective of its owner. Some dog owners are right pr#cks.

There's no excuse for leaving dog sh*t lying, especially on beaches. I've got into many a heated argument with fellow dog walkers about it over the years.

The same applies when a larger dog is jumping all over my terrified smaller dog. Oh, he only wants to play. Feckless c*nts. The people, not the dogs.

The people who leave dog sh*t lying round are the people who leave their own crap all over the beach anyway. Plastic bottles, cans, crisp packets - they should be shot. With a dog go to the ones that's fine, without a dog go to one of the others (which is most in the summer).

Try telling him that when he's trying to sniff something unspeakable. I hate this time of year with so many slugs around. Potential death sentence for dogs.

I love Oxwich, don't want to stop going there to avoid dog turds. In fact I went to Caswell the following day, no dogs there, went to Port Eynon the next day and they have a section of the beach designated for dog owners, which is okay.

Splitting the beach is a good idea I think - they should do more of that.

That's why I wash their food bowls in boiling water if they've been left out at night. You never know what's been crawling in them, slugs and snails are the cause of lungworm and it's a bastard.

I'd rather there were sections of the coastline that people were banned from, personally.

If people were banned from there how would anyone ever know if someone went there illegally?

Being banned means nothing to irresponsible owners, they don't give a shit (pardon the pun)

That's a poser. There would have to be exceptions for enforcement officers to patrol from time to time.

Yeah Caswell is dog free. Port Eynon is OK to take them towards the salt house. Not towards Horton. Oxwich has always been fine to take dogs. I think a couple of designated dog free beaches is enough to be honest
